Classics HD Line?
Pray tell, what exactly would be better about a Metal Slug anthology on PS3, over the PS2 version, aside from Trophies?
The emulation would be slightly less crappy yet still shameful compared to free emulators for the PC.

Seriously. I bought the PS2 Metal Slug Anthology, and that shit went right back.

As for me, if Rockstar would give me the 3 GTA games that mattered from last gen(III, Vice City and San Andreas)for $30-40 I'd be happy.
Given the nature of licensing, there is almost no chance they'd be able to do that with the original soundtracks intact. Although I would admit that having Vice City in HD would be nice.

Well we've had that for years. It's called "the PC version."

I've poked around at the disc contents, and I'm under the impression that the PS2 versions are actually native ports, not emulated.

MS6 is probably a native port. MS4 and 5 are probably ripped from the two prior PS2 ports, too. But those games are the extra suckage anyway.

MS3, I don't know. I know there was an XBOX port in the US. I don't know if there was a PS2 port in Japan that this one is based on. MS1, 2, and X, are almost certainly emulated. I played MS1 the most, and it was all wrong. They did something to the music that makes it play from an MP3 or something, but it's emulated. Either that, or it's extremely poorly ported.

The Sonic 1-K collection for the DS has the same strange emulation where the sound files are MP3s. I guess that frees up processing power.

Metal Slug 3 came out separately for the PS2 in the UK and Japan so I'm guessing it's those version on Anthology (minus the extras). The most annoying thing about the anthology collection here was the huge black bar of PAL conversion-ness, which wasn't in the games on the individual disc, really odd.

But yeah the Anthology wasn't great but it was still better than nothing and was still highly fun 2 player (which is a bit trickier to set up on a PC).
News flash: they already did release a GTA triple pack. It was released on PS2, XBOX, and PC.

And while we're at it, they released a GTA triple pack with the first three games on the PSX. GTA1, 2, and that London game.
No....really? I didn't know that. I already have the double pack of GTA III and Vice City in my collection, but the thing is I'm not about to pay Sony $100 for a PS2 to play them on. But I would pay Rockstar $40 max to play them on my PS3.

I don't even care if they're updated, just as long as they're able to be played on my PS3 without any additional cost besides buying the collection on a disc from Rockstar because I'd much rather support Rockstar Games than fuckin' Sony.

And before anyone says 'well just buy a used PS2 from Craigslist for $20 or so', I present to you my local CL gaming ads: http://scranton.craigslist.org/vgm/

The lowest priced PS2 on there is $40, but it's in the middle of BFE(at least a 25-35 minute drive from here).

So what I might save in cost on the system I'll waste in gas getting there.

These are games I'd want to see get the HD treatment:

Odin Sphere
Okami (w/ move support like the wii version in fact)
Kingdom Hearts collection (including Re-chained)
Dark Cloud collection
Ratchet and Clank collection

Odin Sphere? Think you can simply dream on there my good friend, no chance in hell of that. Growing plants with souls is PS2 only.

You have low standards.

and was still highly fun 2 player (which is a bit trickier to set up on a PC).
In no way is it hard to set up on PC. I used to slack off in class with a friend, and we'd play 2 player Metal Slug, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and shit like that all the time right on the keyboard. At home, I can just connect two controllers, and it's instant nirvana.

And having some Metal Slug is no Metal Slug, hell I'm not saying it was great but I'd rather it be what it is then not be at all. It's not like it was unplayable or anything. I mean hell it's not R-Type III on the GBA bad or anything near.

And yeah 2 player on the PC is all fine and good but you can't sit and your sofa with someone and it just isn't the same when playing it on a PC with a friend, specially if your computer isn't really in a place for 2 people to sit around. And taking your PC to a friend's house or on the bus (in the case of the PSP version) is pretty hard to do. Feel were getting waaaay off topic here.

But basically I think we both agree that a perfect port of all the Metal Slug games on the PS3 would be awesome.

MS1 had unpredictable control lag. Sometimes it would be laggy. Other times it would be like swimming in a pool of maple syrup. But it would always be laggy.

I don't really care about the other Metal Slug games. They're pure quarter munchers as far as I'm concerned.

Just replace the Daytona USA PC port and Mario Kart 64 emulation with Metal Slug, and you'll be all set. I have played Metal Slug with this setup. It does kick ass.

But basically I think we both agree that a perfect port of all the Metal Slug games on the PS3 would be awesome.

But I don't think we agree on whether it's possible that Playmore (I said Playmore, not SNK) will give enough of a hoot to do it. Playmore has already proven that they don't give enough of a hoot to do it. Those early Playmore ports on the Dreamcast and PS2 like King of Fighters 2000 were decent, but that's about the best thing they ever did.

Wow your port sounds worse than ours, didn't have any controller lag or anything.
And yeah that set up is grand and all but my super small flat wouldn't allow for such a thing, plus not everyone is into emulation so Anthology still deserves to exist.

As for credit munchers? Meh, Metal Slug (1) is pretty damn easy, can do it without dying. Done 2 and X with one credit. Completed 3 using one additional credit (final boss always gets me). 4 is just ass so I don't care about it and 5 is a bit cheap in the kills.

I mean a lot of the Metal Slug games are pretty easy compared to something like Contra 4's challenge mode, now that was hard. I'd still buy Metal Slug Anthology if it was identical to the PAL version I own, minus the screen issues, so I'm still down for it. I mean hell I play them more on my PC (specially as I'm currently doing the sprites) but would still like the option.

Also back on topic: The Prince of Persia trilogy and Devil May Cry trilogy would probably be well received.

So you're British.

I don't have any "grand setup." The PC's the size of a video game console. Just get a video card with an appropriate video output (I use S-Video), and you've instantly achieved the ability to play games as they were meant to be played rather than the shameful emulations you have to pay for.

And for people who aren't into emulation, they still have low standards.

DMC Trilogy would rule if they fixed the damn camera. I hate DMC because of the ridiculous camera.

Doubt the layout of the game would allow for the camera to be changed much in the first one.
And yes I spell colour correctly.

As for the whole set-up, I'm working on it. Have an X-Arcade stick but currently paying bills and rent has got in the way of buying video cards, a new TV-stand and other things I would like.

That's what they said about MGS3: Subsistence.

You don't need the latest and greatest PC. The one I use in the video is a 2GHz Pentium 4, and the video card isn't anything special. Rent comes first, but for $150ish last summer, it was an excellent investment.

MGS3, yeah they changed it - but I'm not sure if the environments in DMC1 are even textured outside of what the camera can see, could be a lot of work for a HD collection. MGS3 was an extended edition at the end of the day, not part of a collection.

That's what an HD Remix or whatever of DMC could do. They could recreate the environments in real-time.

But all this might be for nothing. How did DMC4 work? Was the camera fixed in that one, too? If they made it like the previous games, they probably wouldn't do jack in the camera and controls department in a remake collection. I never played DMC4. I only played a bit of the first three last year when I got the bundle from the Gamedays sale, and I regretted getting it.

The first ones camera was totally fixed from a strange angle, much like Metal Gear Solid (1). DMC4 didn't allow a free camera either in a lot of places if I recall correctly - so I doubt it would be changed for a collection. I quite liked the special edition of the 3rd one and the 4th one (new arm mechanics were cool, though doing most things twice was not).
