Are you guys for real when you are asking for a Hi-Def release of this movie?
hell yes.. once you guy hd theres no going back...regardless if its only marginal improvements but going hd also means HD SOUND!
Why wouldn't they be? HD >>>>>> SD.
Oh I agree, HD is better that SD. I am not trying to make this a SD vs HD thread but I am talking generally about this movie and how it was shot and if this actually warrants a purchase on HD.

-A lot of the scenes in this movie where in the dark or very low lighting conditions. If HUD used a cheap consumer grade camera, the footage would be very grainy and a huge amount of detail (faces, textures, etc) would be washed out.

-Sound? What sound? People screaming, running, short bursts of the military counter attacking and the monster (along with the critters) romping around the city. Do I really want that busting out of my speakers every few minutes?

-There is no music score (Rob's party music doesn't count) except during the end credits.

This movie isn't known for it's brilliant colors, story or sound but for it's hype.

...which isn't going to sound much different on the average home user's cheapass home-theater-in-a-box setup (or worse, piece of crap Logitech speakers, god forbid).

true
i actually heard some good rear channel surround audio work on the rip..

i can only imagine the real deal will sound even better...
You mean when HUD was talking right?

Now the rip you mentioned, was it a full screen rip or below 640x480?

If it was full screen and enough to burn to dvd, did you feel motion sickness during the first 20 minutes?

That's my main concern about buying this movie (whenever that happens), if I will feel sick again. Not worth buying a movie (no matter how good people think it is) if it makes me sick every time I watch it.

Just FYI, Cloverfield was shot primarily using a Sony F23, the top-of-the-line model in Sony's professional CineAlta series. The exact price for one is not known publicly, but the next model down goes for $115,000, so, it's a good bit more than that, for sure.

I hate to bring up matters of piracy here, but which group's release were you watching? DiAMOND's?
The alternate endings and deleted scenes were very meh.
You would think one of them would have survived to tell the story about what happened.

What cameras were used to film this movie?

The camera the characters use is probably supposed to be a Panasonic HVX200.

The production team actually used a variety of different cameras, including the HVX, the Sony F23, and the Thomson Viper.
[Director of Photography Michael] Bonvillain used the Viper in FilmStream mode [4:4:4 RGB Data], since some of the trailer footage would be incorporated into the film, recording to tape, but also relied on a variety of other cameras throughout production. We shot with $400 cameras and $80,000 cameras. We used whatever worked for a given scene. Basically, if we could use the [Panasonic] HVX[200], and there were no visual FX, we did. It is really small and felt the most like a small consumer camera. After testing the Viper, the Panavised F900 and the then-brand-new Sony CineAlta F23 at night in downtown Los Angeles, Bonvillain decided to use the F23 for the New York phase of shooting. I found the F23 to be more sensitive in available light situations. Unlike the Viper, which comes back with a green bias that has to be dialed out, the F23 looked a lot more natural to my eye.

The actual Panasonic HVX-200 video camera supposedly used to film "Cloverfield" was sold on eBay on January 23, 2008, for $4,605.00. The starting bid was $2,500.00. The eBay item number was 130190870984, and the listing was entitled "PANASONIC HVX-200 CAMERA USED ON THE MOVIE CLOVERFIELD". An additional copy of the eBay listing and its photos of the camera can be found here in case the eBay listing link expires. The listing contained the following description:THIS FANTASTIC CAMERA IS A TRUE 24P HD MOTION PICTURE CAMERA, AND IT WAS USED EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE MOVIE "CLOVERFIELD". I was the Digital Imaging Supervisor on the movie, and we used the HVX-200 extensively. "Cloverfield" is shot entirely from a video camera's point of view and THIS is that camera!! I bought this HVX as a backup camera to our main shooting cam. It was BARELY used throughout shooting, as shown by the picture below which lists the Operation and Recording Hours (6 Operation Hours and Not even ONE Recording Hour).

See how he says that they used the HVX if there "were no visual FX" in the scene? Do you realize how few scenes in Cloverfield had no effects? Quite few..

Almost all of Cloverfield was shot using professional cameras, far outside the price range of your average consumer.

wow I really thought they were trying to keep everything in camera, but after seeing that show reel demo that was posted, that was pretty cool. Now see if the BR version of the movie is like that, where you see the entire movie pre-visual effects, it would make me appreciate the hard work the effects crew did for it.
Are we STILL talking about this? He shut the camera off. Easy answer.
The rest of the world didnt see the movie the same time you did.
The rebar only went through her left shoulder. If it went through her chest, most likely she would've suffered massive internal bleeding and would've probably died moving her around as much as they did.
It was basically going through the top of her left tit...that is mostly chest considering Lily had her hand on Beth's shoulder in the scene.....even if it was shoulder she still wouldnt have been pulling people out of helicopter wreckage and running around...she could barely walk out of the apartment and across the roof but once they made it to the street she was magically good to go

PS..I just noticed that everytime Beth took a breath in the scene the rebar moved up and down with her body
This movie was extremely disappointing. I greatly preferred "The Host"
think the movie was bad see MONSTER lol it only goes after the americans

Well, if you thought the movie was bad. Try reading the manga prequel.

Basically, a kid's dead mother was linked to the creature, and when the kid starts getting picked on by bullies, the creature rises up from the sea taking out anything in its way. Then a cult who worships the creature kidnaps the kid for who knows what purpose.

Its being released monthly in japan, but I'd imagine the only people that would probably like this are kids and people who have never seen the movie.
