Just click the "add subscription" button. If Google finds an RSS feed, it will use that. If it doesn't, it will do it's best to figure out the page structure and then notify you of updates. It works well. I've used third party websites to try and create RSS feeds for websites before, with mixed results, and they usually broke after a few weeks. So far Google has been very good. As I said though, it's sometimes extremely slow.
