[quote name='snowsquirrel']Well I just finished two hours of single player.
First impressions:
- smoothest console FPS I have played in a while. Though I have not played Halo 3 yet.
- Graphics the most realistic I have ever saw in a game.
- I probably was more sucked in by the R:FoM story, but the presentation of the story in this is very cinematic.
- the action in this game is pretty hairy. not like every other fps where you can control the pacing of the game by just backing up on the 'rails'. When you are in a fire fight, it is 360 degrees of action, until area is cleared. No luring 1 or 2 enemies out at a time. Probably how as close to combat as you'll get on your couch.
- No cover system like gears, or R6, but you need cover to survive.
- Emphasis on distance fighting, as opposed to the close quartered point blank blasting. But that could just be me.
- Based on my progress so far, I would say the game will likely take me 7 hours to complete.
Things that are new to me are:
- 'run' button - click L3 to sprint, and you automatically come out of it, when you aim, or ease off. It really does feel like running, not gliding on ice.
- emphasis on popping in and out of scope/x-hairs (though I think this is a cod trademark).
- playing as part of a squad, as opposed to commanding it, flying solo, or flying solo under the impression of being on a team (ala halo/resistance).
Really my only annoyances so far:
- I use the tactical button layout. I really would like R3 and L3 swapped. (quibbling, I know).
- At times, it is not always obvious where to go next. This is likely to give it a sandboxy feel.
- So much is going on while sqad leader is giving directions, sometimes, I miss my Q's. (welcome to war?)
- I find myself missing the cover system. I used to hitting the cover button, as opposed to the manual duck and hide.
- No lean button, so you must really expose yourself to shoot around a corner. This would have been a perfect use for the SIXAXIS.
Just to make sure I wasn't kidding myself, I popped in R:FoM (which I haven't had in for 2 months). It really made me appreciate the photo-realistic sense of the game, and the 60 fps... smooth as butter. I did notice slowdown once, but there were 20 guys on screen, and 2 grenades going off. One of my first thoughts is what have other devs been doing? How can this game look so much better than anything else I have played on the PS3 so far. (My 360 experience is somewhat limited.) I really wish Haze had pushed for 60fps, even if they had to tone down other things...
I always finish single player before playing online, so nothing on that yet. Pootie, did you try single player yet?
No buyers remorse here.
Anyways, hope this helps someone make a decision.

nice wrap up... since haze is delayed, I have no reason not to get this game... however I do want the limited edition version of stranglehold..... before its all gone.
But anyway, I'm defintely going to miss the cover system, Vegas, and Graw, even gears has gotten all of us spoiled.
now I'm excited...
