This isn't exactly a game, but it is game related, and worth picking up for free if you are running Mac OS X (Intel-only) or Linux! Codeweaver is giving away for free, for today only, Crossover Pro! This includes both Crossover Pro and Crossover Games. It lets you run *some* Windows software on a Mac or Linux machine without running Windows. Obviously CrossOver Games is optimized for games.

Their website is swamped and so they've put up a minimal page, but even it is swamped. If you can get through you can request a serial number and download the full software. Note that you must register the serial number by the end of the month (see the site), but you must request your serial number *today* (subject to change, given the swamped state of their site.) Also download both CrossOver Pro and CrossOver Games.

cool thanks op.
i am thinking of puttign together a linux box and this could come in handy.

do you ahve any experience with this software?

FYI, I tried installing Steam in Crossover Games and the install failed, but I believe it's because their servers are overloaded. As part of the process it tried to download a font from Codeweavers servers and that just timed out and then it complained. So... though you can get this software now, actually installing anything that involves a download from Codeweaver's servers is temporarily problematic.

I've never tried Steam in CrossOver, but a good while back I found a tut that got Steam installed on my machine. I used it to play TF2 when it first came out.

Just fyi.

Ok, so I got Steam installed in CrossOver Games fine, but whenever I try to install a game within Steam, nothing happens. Nor can I install the Flash update it implores me to install - clicking that install button does nothing. Anybody getting Steam to work with this thing? Otherwise Steam seems to work fine, but without being able to install any games it's rather pointless. :) EDIT: I'm running the Mac version on a 1st gen MacBook Mac OS X 10.5.x

This has been on digg, lifehacker, reddit, you name it. Every cheap ass linux user (which is all of them) is hammering the site nonstop. As you've seen from this thread, even non linux users are hammering them in case they decide to give it a try later.

Give em a week put out the fire this started in their server room. It'll work. They make quality stuff, for shizzy. Their forums are really good too.

So now I'm kind of confused. Do I have to register the serial number on that website address in the confirmation e-mail (which hasn't worked all day), or can I just install the full versions on the front page of codeweaver, and enter my serial into the program itself?

Originally you had to register the serial # before you could download, but due to the overload they decided just to put up the full versions with no need to register. Registering will give you one year of free upgrades. At least that's my understanding of it.

The problems I'm having with steam I don't think have anything to do with Codeweavers web site. I was able to install Steam, but can't then install any games within Steam.
