Collection Organizer

Couldn't find exactly where to post this. Was wondering if anyone could tip me to a free database program for organizing a game collection. Thanks for the help.

Open Office's version of Excel might be what you're looking for.
It's not really a database, but it'll get the job done.

thanks. Although I was looking for something with more functionality. Was using gamespot but I prefer something a little neater. Thought of using open office but, then again, that seems really lengthy.

I use the game collectorz program and I absolutly love it. I have 500+ games and I forget which ones I have since most are in storage so this helps me keep track of everything.

I'm looking for something as well, been making my own Excel spreadsheets but that's a pain in the ass.

I need something that will help me catalog my TCGs on the computer.

I'd suggest Intelliscanner - which is essentially that Game Collectorz thing, but with a lot more functionality (can be used with books/DVDs/CDs/groceries/wines/etc as well, and lets you get your own tags and put them on anything), but it's expensive also.

I'm OCD about organization so it's worth every penny to me.

Damn, I'd want the portable version but $300 bucks is steep.

If I go the media version, it would work with all types right? Games, DVDs, CDs.

I currently use a website, recordnerd.com, and an Access database to store everything, but this visual thing with a barcode scanner looks nice.

I think I might regret this but I went to school for database programming. So I might be able to make you one. Just PM me on how you want it to work. It might take me some time because I have not really done any programming since I got out of school. Also I have some stuff I have to do at home. So it may take a month or so but it will be free.
Hmm, I suppose I should keep it here instead of making a new topic, but does anyone have a collection site for books?
I like www.librarything.com for keeping track of my book collection.

You can catalog up to 200 books for free, or go unlimited for $10/year or $25/life. There's some nice recommendation/blogging/tagging functionality, too.

Thanks! The fee is a bit annoying, but luckily I still have under 200 books.

The non-portable one plugs in via USB, and to be honest, I'm not going to mess around with a Bluetooth setup. Seems unweildly.

I figure it's not hard to take a new game to my computer, scan it, and be done with it. A few minutes at most.

The scanners will work with whatever software you get with 'em. When I got mine, I think I got the entire suite of software. So the media one should work with anything, really. The scanners themselves aren't locked into specific programs as far as I know.

I meant if the media version of the software worked with all media.
I just noticed on that collectorz site that there's seperate software for CDs, Games, DVDs, etc.

I think I could $200. for just media and corded scanner.
Also, do you find that pretty much everything scans correctly?

Haven't had issues yet. It's neat. I haven't played with it too much - really only checked a few games - but I like it.

Again, I'm super OCD about knowing what I have, what condition it's in, etc. So this is heavenly.

lol.. that is why I didn't say anything.. I'm a db programmer.. and I can build something, but the time I put it will be tough to justify to my wife and my current job...

I've got over 300 games and I don't want to type in all the titles. It occurred to me I could import a big list of games then just remove the ones I don't own. This might be much faster. Would anyone be willing to send me their file?

thanks
