I've always said that I wish someone would make an RPG game like.. 300 hours long.. make it great.. use 2D sprites and have a tttttooooonnnnnnn of space to work with in the story.. i'd love to see a new Final Fantasy 2D-ish game along the lines of Final Fantasy 2 (SNES).
BRACE YOURSELF: ALBINONINJA HAS A GAME IDEA!!!
holy crap, i can't even finish a +20 hour game, what do you expect people like me to do!?!
i would consider this if the game was broken up into a lot of small rpgs: for example-
You start off with a normal guy discovering a sword which allows him to use magic (magic would be common in the world, but only with the "noble class") He then becomes a knight and, using the sword he rescues a princess (or something cliche) and in the end is given a squire to teach.
Take over 20 years later as the squire, now an impressively wise and powerful knight. He also becomes very rebellious, and looks pretty damn badass. He leads a one-man rebellion and overthrows a powerful empire, becoming king.
Empire's in disarray and a young group of rebels defeat the "Dark Prince," but cannot destroy the sword. The plunge it into the sea where it is found by...
A samurai! The cursed sword is passed through dozens of ancient cultures and progresses into modern day and the future, where it is finally decided to be thrown into a black hole. Black hole becomes posessed by sword in the final final FINAL SHOWDOWN! When you defeat the final boss, the black hole reappears and brings the ship into the past: where you play as the swords creator, basically get your ass killed and is given a choice: plunge into darkness? If you do so, you kick some ass, but then you discover that you just started the sequence of events that would lead to the destruction of thousands. If you decide not to, the maker dies and you revisit every location, but its all peaceful and nice.
Yes, it would be full of rpg cliche's, but that would be part of the genius: everything would be intertwined. Plus, since the game constantly starts all over with fresh new characters and gameplay mechanics, it doesn't get stale. Also, you can stop for a few months, and as long as you still have the general gist of things, you won't have to start all over.
Sorry for the long winded post, but I'm waiting for some imageshack pics to upload and had to burn some time
ooo! ooo! for a little more replay value, how about the ability to play through the entire game as any character with a level cap of like a billion!
