Component Cable Help

I have a Samsung HLR4667W DLP Television and room for component cables. I'm thinking about purchasing the Psyclone PlayStation 2 Component Video Analog Audio Cable from Best Buy for 60 bucks. I was wondering how immense the difference is in video quality. Is there other cables that are better or are they all the same? Also, how do the cables increase the video quality?

Component cables improve the quality by seperating the red, green, and blue colors instead of forcing the colors through just one yellow cable (composite) The red and white are your left and right audio channels. You will see an improvement if you just buy the standered sony ps2 component cables. The Psyclone cables will not make a differrence compared to sonys.
 
Check Ebay or Froogle. $60 is a MAJOR ripoff.

Component has higher resolution than S-video or composite (yellow connector). Composite additionally has problems separating luma and chroma (light and color) that manifest as dot crawl and shimmering/rainbowing. Never use composite, and try to use component instead of S-video. But S-video -> component is nowhere near as important as composite -> S-video.
 
The Sony component cables are $20 and there shouldn't be a difference between them and monster cables, right?

Correct.......At least not on the PS2.
 
My TV isn't HD, but it has component inputs. Is it worth getting PS2 component cables, or will I not see much of an improvement?

Personally many of us have found the S-Video to be superior to Component for PS2 because the component can bring out flaws (esp. in backgrounds) on an excellent display. I would suggest you try both reg. S video and Components on your tv to be sure. Plus, on DLP SDTV signals (games,etc.) arent going to look super.

Now if you play a lot of Sony 1st party games with ProScan, then yeah, buy the Sony cables.

On Standard TV I prefer S-Video. It is worth geting S-Video or component over composite cables but if you have S-Video it is not worth it IMO.

I have had problems playing PS1 games with component cables. Has anyone else had this problem. I get sound but no picture.
 
It depends on your SDTV. I have a Sony KV-27FV300, which is their high end 2002 SDTV, and it looks really good with component. Unfortunately, it only has one component input and my receiver (NAD T-752) only has 2, so I am building (yes, building) a component switcher :D
 
Since we're on the subject of component cables, I have a question. I have the gamestop multi-system selector, would I need to buy 2 component cables or just one? Where would I plug it?

You will need system component cables to hook from your systems to the selector then regular component cables to run from the selector to the TV.

Damn that sounds like it'll cost alot. Is the Universal S-Video/Audio Cable from Mad Catz any good? Which component/s-video are good ones?

Mad Catz are a hit and miss. I bought Mad Catz component cables that have Xbox & PS2 hookup on the same cable. They are not very good (but they will do the job) but it was the only thing I could find @ B&M store. I ended up buying offical component cables off of Ebay for a good price. I have some old Mad Catz GCN S-Video cables that are good though. S-Video I have both Sony ones and Monster and they are both equally good. You can now get cheap Monster cable S-Video @ Gamestop for under $20.
 
Hmm, I have a decent flatscreen standard TV, with one S-Video and one component input. Without getting a switcher, should I hook up my PS2 into the component and my DVD into the S-Video, or vice versa?

The DVD is progressive scan, and the PS2 is a model 30001 (no prog. scan, I believe). Is progressive scan pointless because it's a SDTV, with only 480i?

Use component cables on the one that you use most.

On SDTV it will all go by ones taste of component vs. S-Video. On both of my SDTV I prefer S-Video for gaming and Component for my DVD player. Only time I can tell the difference between component and S-Video is on RPG with a lot of text and the S-Video looks slightly better. I will repeat this will differ on every TV and personal preference. Most likely you won’t see a difference between component and S-Video on SDTV.

Progressive scan will do nothing for a SDTV.

I bought a set of pelican Component cables @ EB for $9.99 a while ago . I think they are over doing it for a 1st gen [non progressive] PS2 .

The PS1 itself only supports S-video , composite , or RF .

You can use a Component cable on a PS2 , and play PS1 games on it though .

I have tested many times... S-video vs. Component on standard TV...
S-video hands down...

Put in a copy of gran turismo 4..... since this game pushes the PS2 graphics...

with S-video.. you can see alot more details.. such as the amazing light reflection on the car glass, road surface is super sharp, and the details on the trees while driving by... component was close but kinda blurry in details...

If we are talking about HDTV... components all the way... playing gran turismo in 1080i is outta this world...
 
you can get component PS2 cables for $10 at EBgames.......... get the madcatz ones that work with the xbox,ps2, and gamecube.......... there is no difference between these and any other component cables for the PS2
 
For some reason when I play gran turisom 4 with component cables and the component cable selected on the ps2 i still only get 480i, how can i get 1080i?
