I'm about to get a new tv, which will support component input, and am looking to upgrade from my composites. I'm wondering what brand you guys would recommend, and an estimated price as well (links would be sweet!) if possible. Thanks

i got a 27 inch jvc, non flat tv and it has been very good to me for the 3 years I've owned it, the picture is nicer than the cheap toshiba

I saw the tv on sale last spring for $200 at a locally owned place

My current tube is a 32 inch JVC I-art with the same component features, this tube hasn't been dissapointing to me either. Picked this up for $450 plus tax at Best Buy in the summer with a 10 percent off coupon

Go with the official Sony brand cables. They're good quality and have gold-plated connectors. The Monster Cable ones are way too expensive ($60) and I believe all Monster products are overrated and overpriced. I don't have links but I think Amazon has the Sony Component cables for $20 and I bought mine at Best Buy for $30. The list price for them seems to be $30 but if you can find them cheaper with shipping, go for it. Don't get anything cheaper than that, especially Mad Catz, because they seem to be of very poor quality. My rule of thumb of video cables for game systems is to always buy the official brand ones. For instance, I just ordered the Gamecube component cables off the Nintendo website for $30 since that's the only place you can get them. But I have an excellent HDTV and I want the best picture quality and Progressive-scan capability for the games that support it (very few PS2 games do, most most X-Box games do).

I have both the Microsoft HD-pack, and the monster cables for X-box. There really is no difference. Maybe a slight bit, but nothing to piss yourself about. I'm using official sony component cables on my PsTwo, and the official nintendo component cables on my NGC, they work fine. If you arent really anal about what youre using, just get some off ebay, theyre cheap. As for a TV, go either Sony or Toshiba, thats it. I'm using a Sony Wega model KV-32HS510, and it rocks. My friends say my tv is better than their family room tv's. :D

Yeah, just get a generic or the official brand cables...don't go spending $60-$100 on Monster cables. I have three different sets of component cables running into my TV, all seem just fine to me.

I have some generic ones that came with my HDTV cable box
I believe I have the MS/XBOX ones that came with the HD-pack for my XBOX
I have Monster THX brand (these are good and can be had for around $25) on my DVD player.
I may have to upgrade soon though since mine are pulled kinda tight since I moved....but they still work, so who knows. Don't want to drop another $50 on 2-sets of cables.
Any cables will do as long as they are gold-plated, official sony is what I would go with.
Monster Cables = Caviar... unnecessary.
Here's the problem with that analogy.. caviar is good. Monster Cables are severly over-rated, you're overpaying just to get a name and some pretty colors. Its a severe waste.

I got my Monster PS2 cables for free... well not techincally. But my friend stole them and he owed me money so I took them... I've heard people saying that the Sony brand ones and some other brand are better, is this true? I love my cables... although GTASA doesn't look too grand with them.

You own stolen property? I am so calling the cops right now! :) j/k
On topic, I would also suggest picking up the first-party component cables. I just trust them more than some third-party set.

i too have the sony wega model KV-32HS510 for about a year now and it is beautiful. i picked up monster component cables at bb and ended returning them because the quality difference wasn't there to justify the $30 price difference. i suggest just going w/ sony/microsoft's component cables, they work well and theyre cheap ($)...

Well you could buy the monster cables off me^^. Its opend but i never used them. I bought it from BB and was planning on getting an HDTV but some things uh, came up and all of a sudden i was a CAG who couldnt afford to buy an HDTV. Ill sell you mine for 42 bucks if ya want. I know sony is less but i dont wanna lose too much money here.

Thanks guys. To clarify I already just got a 27" flat screen Sony Wega, and I was just looking for cables, I should have edited my post b/c if I was reading it I would think it was asking for a tv too. I was thinking first party since that's usually the rule of thumb I go by too, and they're significantly cheaper than Monster brand. Thanks for confirming my decision, now I just gotta save up lol. Gamecube components are really only available from nintendo directly I think somebody posted?

If you can get them on the cheap, Monster is best. Overpriced? Yes. Over hyped? Probably.

Keep in mind that the clarity of your image will deteriorate each time it gets routed through something else regardless of the brand. So a direct system to TV connection is going to look slightly better than a system to receiver to TV connection.

What?! Don't tell me you didn't like the cable jacketing in crazy Xbox green with fishnet stockings, or cool blue/purple PS2?
