ComUSA Xbox 5.1 Surround Sound System $175

I just picked this up yesterday night, so I haven't had a chance to open them up yet. But after talking with the sales rep, looking at the alterations to the box, and then coming home and doing some extra internet searching. I"ve come to the conclusion that something is definitely up.

One of the major selling point for this system was the 10yr warranty; well on the box that 10yrs has been blacked out with a marker. On the Spearx website, the warranty is now the crappy, standard 90 DAYS. They've also placed black duct tape over the customer service center's address and phone number.

It appears that the company who makes thes has been bought. That doesn't change the review ratings that this system has got, but it does make you wonder what in the world is going on and why are these being sold so cheaply?

Just be aware.

If anybody can provide more info, please let me know...

For that Price it wouldve been better to go with the logitech Z-5450's

http://www.spherexinc.com/specsheets.aspx

FRONT (110 Hz ~ 20 kHz, 0.3 % T.H.D. at one channel driven) 55W + 55 W
CENTER (110 Hz ~ 20 kHz, 0.3 % T.H.D. at one channel driven) 55 W
SURROUND (140 Hz ~ 20 kHz, 0.3% T.H.D. at one channel driven) 16 W + 16 W
SUBWOOFER (40 Hz ~ 114 Hz, 1.5 % T.H.D. at one channel driven) 102 W

pretty weak D:

Man, over the last couple of weeks there has been a lot of PC/Console surround sound systems going on sale. And really good sales at that.

Awesome deal,

Just to clarify, the above mentioned system is designed after the Mirage Omnisat.Which in turn is handled by Audio Products International Corp (API) . Same company that is responsible for Athena and Energy. This deal is a steal, one Omnisat retails for $70 iirc. Wish I could cash on this deal, but I have Athena W-60's already. Thanks OP! I think I'll pass this on to a friend

From personal experience with both speakers, you will NOT be disappointed with Spherex set.

It delivers amazing 5.1 surround sound for xbox360, pc, and movies.

The logitech z-5500 set is a comparable set but, you can not compare Z-5450 with spherex. Z-5450 will give much weaker surround sound.

Just make sure you optical in all audio signals. You are good to go.

Thanks for the post OP, I decided to order these because i've been on the look out for a good 5.1 system.

for that price, I would go for a low end receiver+5.1 speaker setting.
Some sony sets are under 200 at walmart, I think.

Holy shit?

I have these speakers and they were a good value back when it was $399 from Amazon. I think it's hard to find a better sounding system for under $500. It has received pretty good reviews.

I got them when the warranty was 10 years and have an idea why they are now 90 days. After a year of use, there is a an intermittent buzzing sound in the surround speakers. Depending on individual tolerance levels, it can range from slightly annoying to unbearably aggravating. I find it slightly annoying when the source material is loud enough (like video gaming). But listening to DVDs during quiet passages, the buzzing sound can get in the way of the enjoyment.

Other than the annoying buzz that comes and goes, the performance is excellent especially for a small apartment.

There was a promise to develop an add-on 5.1 analog module for PC use but I guess they gave up on it.

Hmm, I'm still looking around for a system (either buy a new system or get a DDTS--100) and this seems kind of interesting. The reviews seem positive, but I kind of think that the Sony HT-DDW-700 (159+tax at CC, 15 off 100 also) is a better deal still.

Wal-Mart also has this for 199.82

And provantage for 153.20 (Don't know if they're good or not though, never bought from them)

Also a few places in beween those prices, google or something.

Silly question, but how would I hook my xbox into these speakers? Does the Xbox do optical out or would I have to stick with shitty RCA cables?

When you say Xbox, do you mean the regular one or the 360?

If you mean the regular one, then you'd have to pick up the advanced AV pack, they should be like $10-15 now, and they have a Optical out on them.

For the 360 I believe that you the premium cable already comes with an optical out.

I could be mistaken, somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

Hope that helps...

Good. I already have one lying around. I have no clue why I haven't hooked it up yet. I'm gonna buy this sound system.
