Concentration headaches?

So I recently re-discovered that I get serious headaches while playing with Legos. All of those buried memories of headaches past came rushing back and really put a damper on the mood. I loved playing with Legos as a child and still get all giddy when I walk into a Lego B&M store. But I'll be damned if these headaches aren't the reason why I stopped playing with Legos altogether. Lord knows I still want to be creative as I sit there for hours on end. Hell, I can't even play with my daughter because the headache got so bad...

Any of you CAGs have this issue as well?

Thanks...I really laughed out loud while sitting here.

Honestly I get stress headaches alot and end up with migranes every now and again caused by stress and anxiety.

Do you seriously still play with LEGOs? I used to play with them all the time as a kid. I loved them. I think they're one of the reasons I was so good with math growing up (from counting the size of the tops).

But... I've also contemplated starting playing with them again. Just to build something huge. I always had a castle I would work on. Never finished one though.

I don't know whatever happened to the ones I had. I had this enormous bin of them at one point which mysteriously dissapeared. My mom probably gave them to a family friend or something.

I can't say that I actually play with them. I just can't seem to let go of them. They've been in a rubbermaid tote for years and I simply refuse to part with them. My mother asked me to gift them to my nephew a few years back. She found her answer in the "Are you out of your fucking mind?!" expression on my face.

The only reason why I even pulled them out is because my daughter and I were at the mall and wandered into a Lego B&M store. I literaly had to tear myself out of that place before I dropped a ton of cash on legos that I didn't really have the money for. I guess I've always had an obsession for legos.

Funny story, I remember a time when I choked the shit out of one of my older cousins for knocking one of my lego creations out of my hand as we were walking down the street. It just so happens that I used two of my most prized lego pieces in this particular creation and one of them got lost in some tall grass. I lost my fucking mind, wrapped my hands around my cousin's neck, and refused to let go. I came to and released my grasp right around the time the color started to leave my cousin's face. Best part about it, I didn't get in trouble. My cousin used to pick on me constantly so my aunt let it go. :D My cousin never forgot that day as it was recently brought up during a family visit some years ago.

Don't fuck with a boy and his legos, man!

That seems odd. Do you get the headaches from playing with them for 10-15 minutes, or only if you spend the whole day with them? If it's just the latter, why not play in small spurts?

Maybe it's something to bring up to your doc the next time your in for something else. Maybe he can give you a trick or 2 to help you through it.

If you don't wear glasses I suggest you get some. Alot of my headaches were caused by not wearing glasses when I needed to. Look into it, just for the lego's sake, as uncool as you'll look wearing glasses and playing with lego's at your age.

Porch monkey 4 life, It's ok I'm brining it back.

Actually, I get the headache almost right away and it lasts for hours. The pain is intense, too, almost to the point of nausea. Oddly enough, if I dispurse my legos across the floor the headache takes longer to set in. It gets me eventually though.

Funny you should mention that. I had glasses issued to me years ago. I went to see an eye doctor because I had trouble staying awake while reading (I still do). I also would get headaches and/or motion sickness when reading in a moving vehicle of some type. (I know we all suffer from this to some extent but my experience seemed extreme.) Unfortunately, the glasses I received seemed to make the condition worse so I stopped using them. Maybe I do need to revisit the issue...

I was getting bad headaches playing video games, and sure enough I needed glasses... this might be the issue here as well. Maybe it's because Lego's are so tiny and your eyes have to really focus to see them? If you have bad eyes, the increased strain will give you headaches, IIRC.

In all seriousness I think you should. But go someplace trustworthy, because alot of times the guy doing the tests or even the guy ordering your glasses can screw up. Happened to me once at this mom and pop place, then I decided to just go to pearlvision.

I get a (worse) headache (I swear, I've had one long headache since I've been born that fluctuates in severity) when concentrating very hard on things.

That's weird, are you somehow sensitive to the color of lego blocks? Haha, your glasses would probably solve that problem, just keep wearing them and get used to them.

Sorry, I just had to lol

Seriously???

Doesn't video game playing require some sort of concentration as well? but you never get headaches from that?

You might want to check with your doctor... It might have something to do with the solid colors affecting your brain while trying to assemble this. This might be an early symptom of something medical. Check with your doctor about this.

I'm amazed that I replied to this thread when I don't remember doing so until I checked the date. I still agree w/ myself that OP should check into contacts.

I kind of wonder how this thread came up, because I found myself searching it due to it having a keyword (I don't think I was the one who bumped it).

Anyway, yeah, I use to occasionally get headaches when I was building stuff out of Legos a few years ago (I still love Legos, but no time). I get concentration headaches often, but then again I work way too hard (since I'm in front of the computer and looking at papers a lot, from my previous job and school work). The OP might need a better prescription. Like I said before, I might need one myself, but I'm too cheap.

I used to get LEGO headaches sometimes too. I haven't played with LEGOs is ages though. I should go dig through them again. I literally have tubs of LEGOs. It was pretty much all I did as a kid.
