CONFESSIONAL: What's that (beatable) game that you've just never been able to beat?!

coltyhuxx

CAGiversary!
For me, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. I've been playing it (casually) for about 16 years and I still can't knock Iron Mike down.

And now, I don't know if I have the twitch reflex nerves for the job.

I'm pretty stuck on the 8th level of Zuma adventure mode. I think I need more lives going into it by starting at an earlier level, but I am too lazy.

I've beaten Tyson quite a few times, even played a year or two ago and it didn't take too long before it all came back to me. I have more trouble with Macho Man.

The first Ratchet and Clank game. The difficulty ramps up way too much at the end. I've tried every stinking weapon, I've tried to run right through the enemies, I've tried to take it slow and make every shot count... nothing works. I hate the fact that I've logged ~20 hours into it but I can't add it to my list of completed games. *hangs head in shame*
For me it has to be Kirby: Canvas Curse for DS. Every time I play it again to beat it it pisses me off on that damn fire level.
Just yesterday I got my butt kicked up and down the street by that game. I died 4 or 5 times on one level before I set it down, rather than smash my DS against the wall. Fun game though.

Big thing with Tyson is being able to quick return from a dodge(pushing back the other way from the direction you are dodging). Get that down, and you should be able to at least knock him down.

I did not even know that you could do that until about a year ago. Try it out coltyhuxx

And Kirby:CC is one of the few games I swear at constantly. I will beat it someday, but I can only play it about 15 minutes at a time because it pisses me off so much.

Lunar: Silver Star Story - PSX or wait... PS2? It came in that collectors box.

I've restarted that game twice but it's just too hard!
And I'm supposed to be good at RPGs.

My cousin beat it with ease. I told him to play my file and even he couldn't understand why it seemed much harder on my files.
I was only 20 or so hours into it. Pretty early part of the game.

I never beat Mike Tyson either. I can barely beat Super Machoman.

Nes Jaws is another game I never beat. I can get to that end bit at will, but I could never spear jaws with the front of my ship.

You ready for this one? Here a game Ive never beaten...

Super Mario Bros.

I beat SMB2, SMB3, SMW, Yoshi Island, SM64, etc... I just could never beat the original SMB. My friends make fun of this fact to this day.

Ive sat there and watched my friend do speed runs of the game.
I cant beat it... =(

Ogre Battle for the SNES

That last map is soo long as they send way after way that they chip my life down to the point where I get dispatched quickly.

Faselei for the NGPC

There was too many maps where I just kept running out of ammo that I pissed off and set it down and have never picked it up again.

Can you not grind away in that game? Hm, interesting cos I still want to pick that one up.

I've owned SMB since 1985 and I JUST beat it about three years ago. That last level is hard. Not that I played it all that much.

Here's another one I've NEVER been able to beat. BLASTER MASTER.

I remember telling my mom that I "hated her" when she unplugged my NES from (unofficial) standby mode when I was at school. No saves, no passwords=brutal wear on the TV and the NES.
I've never been able to beat the first Mega Man.
I distinctly remember investing a huge assload of my adolescence beating that game. They should give out little merit-badges ala the Scouts for accomplishments like that.

Blaster Master is understandable, that game is pretty long, and with no saves, even harder.

But seriously Puffa, go beat SMB now. I beat it in 88 when I was 3. :/

I cant beat it... =(
I finally thought of mine. Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA). It's not that it's necessarily too hard, I just really, really don't like that game and just never invested the time to beat it. One of these days I'll probably just sit down and run through it, but even with Super Mario Advance, I just got bored after like 3 levels and turned it off.

For the original, you just gotta keep that firepower through 8-3 and 8-4. If you do that, it's cake. If you don't, it can be rough. Great game though. I've probably beaten it 5 or 6 times since I downloaded it on the VC in January.

hotel dusk room 215. I've been playing it alot but then pokemon came out and it's like my other games just don't exist.....

Go beat SMB2 quick. Use this route: 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 (Take warp at pipe at the very right of the outside screen) 4-1, 4-2 (warp near the middle of the stage) 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, 7-1, 7-2.

I know it's not a long game, even to hit every level, but just have never done it!

I also have to admit that I've never beaten any of the Mario games. However, I've beaten some of the earlier Mega Man games & Super Ghosts n Ghosts back in the day. Go figure.

Mega Man 3 and Castlevania 3.

I've beaten Megaman 1 and Megaman 2, but not 3 :(

Regarding SMB, I think the first one is harder than ANY of the succeeding ones, so don't feel too bad.

Ghosts and Goblins (or is it Ghouls n Ghosts??? it's the NES one)

I vowed on this website that I would indeed beat it,

but I have yet to beat it!!!

harder than battletoads man...

Zelda 2, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros 3 (I beat it but I did use the wrap tricks)... those are some of the ones that come off the top of my head.

I think it's debatable whether that game is beatable or not :) I don't think I've ever gotten past stage 2 or seen anyone get past stage 3 (other than using emulators with save states)

Edit: Actually I checked last night and I have gotten TO stage 3 a few times, but never past it.

I've been stuck on the last boss of Shinobi for PS2 for like 4 years now. I almost beat him once, and got progressively worse every time I've played thereafter...

Beating it a second time around I can't imagine. I did beat Loki the first time but when that bitch was like "find the real bracelet/charm/whatever" I decided I was going to be single.

For some reason, in the NES version, around level 3 or four (the underground caves) when you fight the dragons on the bridge is just so freaking hard for me. Then the game gets easier for a bit and then it's just ruthless.

Nothing like falling on a torch when you have daggers late in the game.

Are you kidding me...? I took Tyson down back when I was 8 and he was actually still a good fighter.

Oh yeah I forgot about Blaster Master for the NES. I haven't played it in years but I could never get past the last level. Also I seem to remember playing Fester's Quest alot and never beating it.

I don't think you can count Ghosts n' Goblins as a beatable game. That sucker was impossible!

Devil May Cry 1.

I must've fought that boss 20 times before I stopped. Everytime I would weaken him, I would get cocky and then do something stupid and get my ass whooped. Who knows if that is even the final boss? LOL. I know I can beat it, just haven't gotten back to it.

Tin Star for the SNES. I don't have a light gun and trying to beat the last boss with the controller is fucking ridiculous.

That is not a good thing, Puffa. You best go beat that shit now.

SMB (especially speed runs) is (are) all about memorizing exactly how to jump through each section.

I have never beaten SMB either. I remember when I was a kid lying about beating it because it seemed like everyone else had.

That is the main one that sticks out in my head. Im sure there were tons of NES games that I couldn't beat. As for the original Mega Man as someone posted earlier. I played Mega Man 2 first and beat that one, then went back to play the original Mega Man. I don't think I even got out of the first level.

Another one was Rygar. Man I played the s**t out of that game but could never figure out how to beat it.

Holy shit. I have the EXACT same problem. I've beaten almost every other mario game, no sweat, but I simply can not in any way beat the first SMB. I can hardly get past the first world.
Stop whatever you're doing and go beat Mario 3 right now.
if you've never beaten that game, then you should pretty much quit life.
Super Mario Bros.
Damn. Take 10 minutes and go do that now.

I've never beaten any of the original NES Mega Mans, even though it's one of my favorite series.

Oh, and the only Resident Evil I've finished is 4, even though it's once again one of my favorite series.

FFVIII. I got the offical game guide and a party with everything. Just never felt like beating it.

If I remember correctly, the enemies in both of the Lunar remakes would level with your characters. You could not grind in levels and blow through the game.

Any RE except 4. I've played 'em all, but I always end up getting to one point where I'm stuck on some stupid puzzle or too low on ammo/health and just give up and move on to some other game.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - I'm pretty close to the riot missions, but every time I play the game, all I feel like doing is driving around. I did take over all the gang territories, though.

True Crime: Streets of LA (Gamecube) - I've completed all the missions to get the two bad endings, and I'm one chapter away from getting the good one.

L.A. Rush (PS2) - I believe I was about 3/4ths through the game before something else took my attention away.

Every Zelda game except A Link To The Past - I kid you not. I came close to beating the first Zelda when I was a kid, when I was borrowing my cousin's copy. Right as I got to the final dungeon, my save file somehow got erased. I tried to play through it again but my cousin wanted the game back. I have it on the Gamecube and GBA and I'm about halfway through the game on both systems. Back when I had Ocarina of Time on the N64, I got all the way to the Spirit Temple, but my file was lost due to a strange glitch - the game froze for some reason and when I reset the N64, my file was in accessible. It was the second file and the cursor would just skip from the first file to the third file. I couldn't even erase it. I tried again on the Gamecube but I haven't been able to regain the motivation to try to get past the Water Temple again.

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2) - I can't beat that damn final McLaren F1 race.

Metroid Prime

I just don't have the courage to go through that next to final room of Metroids. I'm that close and yet am scared of electronic beings. You know what? I'm going to go beat it right now.

suikoden II. didnt level my 3 parties enough and saved it right before the Luca Blightbattle. had to start all over again and havent picked it up since.

edit:

warps and all I've still never beaten SMB either. My frickin' aunt can beat it in like record time, and I still get hung up on 8-2. All the other Marios were no problem, just this one.

Dark Cloud - I played that game FOREVER and I could NEVER beat that final boss. The first two parts were a breeze for me but I couldn't figure out how to kill his 3rd form...I think it had something to do w/ the fact I never leveled up any of the characters w/ long range attacks.

8-2 Is the level I get hung up on as well. Thats the level with Lakitu right?

Oh how I HATE YOU Lakitu! You and your deadly rain of spiny koopas have kept me from beating SMB for 20 years now.

Its not even that I run out of lives, cos I can do that infinite lives trick where you jump on the koopa coming down the steps... I just cant pass that Lakitu stage.

/hangs head in shame
