Confusing Xbox LIVE Connection vs. Netflix

So, I am watching How I Met Your Mother (amazing show btw) on Netflix thru my Xbox 360...

I get the Discounted from Xbox LIVE beacon...yet the show is still playing

how? lol (i mean i guess it would be buffered enough, but still)

What he said, Netflix buffers a few minutes(or less) depending on your internet connection when playback is started in order to compensate for any internet hiccups while you're watching so playback isnt interrupted. Until its buffer runs out, Netflix will allow you to watch all it has streamed because it's attempting to compensate for an(in this case permanent, at least for a moment) internet hiccup.

Yeah, pretty much all streams do this, youtube, dailymotion, vimeo, etc. on your PC too.
