Console Choice

yester

CAGiversary!
Howdy,
i just try to figure out what to buy and hope someone can help me make that decision.
I am mostly a pc gamer and used to have a ds which i sold mostly for screensize reason.
I am debating between Xbox360 and Wii. As far as i know you can buy all the old game from the nintendo library and play it on the Wii. The Xbox360 would be nice, because i liked Fable and Test Drive.
What would benefit me more. Mmm.... My budget is kinda tight too, so that makes a multi purchase not an option.

Thanks for the input.

Don't get a Wii. I hear there are programs called 'emulators' that let you play 'backups' of all the old Nintendo games. I also hear you can buy a fuckawesome logitech gamepad on Amazon for ten bucks to get the console experience when playing said backups.

it all depends on the games that you want to play. check the list of games for the 360 and the wii.

I just got an Xbox 360 this week after being a PS2/GC fan last generation (I hated the original Xbox).

Pound for pound it's the strongest console on the market right now, while the PS3 is good it's too expensive and doesn't have as extensive a library as the 360.

The Wii is not really a good bet if you play a lot of games, the Nintendo series are all pretty excellent but after you beat them (in about a month or two) you'll be bored.

As of right now I'd recommend:

1. 360
2. PS3
3. Wii

Since you are not considering a PS3, the choice is easier.

Between the Wii and 360... probably the Wii, since you can already play most of the 360's good games on PC.

Though honestly, I'd still recommend the PS2 over any of that.

I'm going to have to co-sign to this. If you're a PC gamer, then likely you prefer mouse and k'board for shooters. Additionally, the online for 360 costs money (free on PC), and there is no mod community. Moreover, as stated above, many of the games that "make the system" for the 360 (CoD, Mass Effect, Gears, Halo, GTA4, Assassin's Creed, NFS) are already on the PC anyway. I wonder, since Fable was on the PC if Fable 2 is destined for a port too.

OTOH, the Wii has games that you're not gonna find ported to the PC, and the motion controls add a newish wrinkle. As a fan of golf games, I find the waggle control satisfying (I suggest Super Swing Golf 2).

But if you just want a console to try "console style" games, yeah, a PS2 would be you're best, and cheapest (CAG-iest?) bet.

i would say

1. 360
2. ps3
3. wii

but only get the 360 if ur getting live...its definitely fun without live, but live makes it SOOOOO much better...i have both systems and my wii bores me often

also, i agree with bear...toaster comes before wii an many cases....

Get a 360. The wii at this point is a novelty to have. While Mario Galaxy and RE:4 wii edition are a blast, theres just not enough good games to justify a Wii as being your only console.

And if you are a pc gamer, I'm sure you know about how to play older gen games on your pc. Hell soon you'll be able to even play ps2 games with a pc.

Awww. The fanboyism here these days is so cute. Advocating emulation just so you get brownie points, that's hilarious.

OP, look up the top five games you want to play and go from there. You've named two 360/PS3 games so at that point, decide what you want more: a system with a fuller online experience (assuming you want to play such things) or a bluray player. Everything else is pretty much identical between the two except for price.

Or just play them on your PC, since the library is largely interchangeable.

Honestly, the DS might be a good option if budget is tight. You mention you used to have one, but it has a great library on its own.

360 is the best, followed by PS3 in a good second place.

The Wii is dead to me after I got it at launch, got tired of it within one week and now it just laughs at me.

well, thats a lot to think about.
I just wonder why everyone seems to say that the Wii is not good. There were also some game i would like to play.
Anyway, the 360 is tempting because of the higher visuals and, at least for me, like fable 2 and a big library incl. RPG's (which are more my kinda games).
The DS, like i said, is ok but what makes it hard for me to play is the tiny display. I think at least for my part, i would not buy a portable device anymore. I prefer to have it on a bigger monitor. Thats why i sold my DS. Sad.

Thanks anyway for advising me.
On a note. At one point i considered the PS3 (even at the high price tag), but to be honest, it does not have so many games which justifies it for me to get one. Most games are Multiplatform and only a handfull i think i would play like MSG 4.

You should get a xbox360 and a WII or a PS3 and a WII. You can choose between a WII and a 360 as they are so not related at all. I think the comparisions should be between a xbox360 and a PS3.

I would say get a Wii unless you really must have the few 360 and PS3 games that aren't on the PC. The Wii has far more games that will never come out on the PC.

I know if I had to choose between getting rid of my 360 or my Wii I would get rid of my 360, pretty much any of the games I play for it I can also play on my PC. The Wii has some great games like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart and Smash Brothers that I will never be able to play on the PC. Heck right now on the Wii I'm playing a fun Zelda clone called No More Heroes that will never be on any other system.

Depends on the horsepower of your PC if like me and you have not upgraded for a few years go with a 360 or PS3. If you want to play Killzone 2, Motorstorm, Folklore, LBP, Hevenly Sword, WarHawk, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, MGS 4, Resistance 1 and 2, etc buy a PS3. If you want to play Dead Rising, Too Human,GOW 2(now), Fable 2(now), Banjo Kazooe Nuts and Bolts, Halo 3, etc buy a 360. If you have a mid range or high end rig then just play that. If you never had a PS2 go buy one(tons of games!). I just cant recommend the Wii until it starts getting more good titles.

Between a Wii and 360, the 360 wins. However, as others have said, the Wii will offer a more unique experience as you can get most of the 360 experience on your PC.

Because your budget is tight, I'd say the Wii. There are quite a few good to great games on the system (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Brawl, Z&W, NMH, De Blob, Boom Blox, Okami) and those games would last you quite a while, and most of the ones I've listed are sorta budgeted atm (NMH, BB, Okami, Z&W, Brawl every few weeks or so). Also, you wouldn't have to worry about Xbox Live costs, as well as the potential for new games to come out as abundantly.

Whats your reason for wanting a console? I would stick with the PC and wait until summer to decide whether Sony gets their shit together and a price drop is announced. I wouldn't sell them short just yet. But if you cant wait, get the 360.
