Console Trade In@EB B&M

CAG Veteran
Got a flyer that advertised some deals on console trades:
PS2 system + 5 PS2 games = $150
XBox system + 5 Xbox games = $150
Gamecube system + 5 GC games = $100
GBA SP system + 5 GBA games = $75
GBA system(old one i am sure) 5 GBA games = 50
PSone Mini system + 5 PSone games = $50
PSX system + 5 PSX games - $35
N64 system + 5 N64 games - $30
DC system + 5 DC games - $30

Not sure if there are any exclusions as for as games. I plan on calling tomorrow and checking.

Not spectacular but I bought my PS2 for $70 and I know I have some games I paid a lot less than $10 bucks each. Plus I only play Xbox lately.
I could make my money back somewhat for a trade.

Just an FYI...Hope its not a double post, I looked back a couple pages.

DOH! sorry didn't realize I could still edit my original post.

Ok one more time. sorry. to answer previous posted questions since I have the flyer in front of me. This is the fine print:

"System must be in working condition. Trade-in credit must be applied to purchase in same transaction. Game boxes and instructions are required. Not valid on previous purchases. While supplies last. Case for Games program does not apply to this promotion. no substitutions can be made. No rain checks can be issued. Customer may be responsible for sales tax in some states. See store associate for complete details Typographical errors are not the responsibility of EB Games. Offer valid 10/3/04 to 10/30/04"

How many of you have actually managed to trade JamPack/Exhibition discs for $10 with this deal? I have a few I could throw out if they'd work. The guy at the store told me there were no exclusions, even old sports titles are acceptable, but are these..?

Also, say you only have 4 PS2 games.. will they let you throw 1 Xbox game into the mix and still do the deal?

You need a box and manual? :( That makes me sad.... please say no....
No, you don't. I just had them, and I put it in the box. It was just funny that they didn't even open it up!
I'm pretty positive that Rig has about the most laid back EB among us. They play tested mine for about five minutes
Yeah, Rig is really lucky. They tested my PS2 for like five minutes with a blue bottomed disc!

They didn't playtest mine, but that probably had something to do with the fact that the box was unopened when I brought it in. It was the 39001 networking version that I had bought from shopnbc just before the pricedrop (I had hoped/expected it would be a 50001, and I hadn't anticipated the networking package to drop to $150, just the regular), so I thought I was hosed, but patience paid off. The clerk was even kind enough to unscrew the network adapter for me, so I didn't have to.

GBA SP system + 5 GBA games = $75

that is horbile I just got 112 for my gba sp and 7 seven games at gamestop. and most of my games were from the circuit city sale.

gamestop is giving 45 for gba sp's which is alright you could get more on ebay for one possibly.

i'm going to do the dreamcast trade-in deal for 30 bucks trade-in credit so i can buy halo 2. i called one of the eb stores and they told me they need box and manuals. does the offer say that u need to have box and the manual?

I thought EB wasn't going to take POX games, so I went and found four cheap non-POX games for about $25. I needed one more game so I grabbed SSX (definitely a POX game) while I was in the store and they took it.

If I had it to do over again, I would probably have grabbed five old POX sports games for about $15 and saved myself some cash, but its not a bad deal regardless.

They also gave me $10 for my network adaptor, so I'm only about $20 out of pocket.

I had my system all packed up in its original box, and they didn't test it to make sure it worked. All they did was make sure the power cord and AV cable were in there.

They didn't test mine and I brought it in in a milk crate, I had to give phone number/adresss but they just put the PS2 with someothers, so sorry if anyone gets a broken PS2 in portchester NY!

Well, they tested mine and screwed me out of the whole deal..

I got my PS2 back at launch and it's a little worn out, so sometimes you have to jiggle the controller plug around in the slot for the controller to work. It doesn't do it often, but it just had to do it when he was testing it. "Oh I'm sorry, this looks like it's broken.. I can only give you $50 for it.." I had 3 games, but the difference ended up being about $80-something that I didn't have or was even prepared to have to pay.

Wonderful. Ah well, I'll just keep it and hope it stays working another year or so. Still, what rotten luck. =/

You should take it to a different EB in the area, or back to the same one at a different time when someone else is working there. If it works most of the time, maybe you'll get lucky on a second test.

I bet I could have kept my controller, the guy was so leniant, but on the bad side, that day I went to FYE and the guy wouldn't take my Samurai Warriors.

Called another EB around my area and they said they take used systems for $40 and the PS2 trade in plus 5 games is still valid.

Why is there such a big price discrepancy between different stores? I've been told used broken PS2s get anywhere from $20-40 and working ones $80-100? Don't they all have the same prices and promotions going on in their store?

I went to eb today. Got a flyer. Talked to the guys. The flyer says nothing about game exclusions however does say "not valid with previous purchases". (sorry scanner isn't hooked up) The guy there said they don't take Jampacks though. And no Killzone demo to be found :(

We've all realized that it depends on the store and who you talk to. My EB, as I have stated a few times before, did take Jampacks, and allowed multiple copies of the same games, even those on the POX list. You can always look into the very old Maddens for like $2 each and see if they will accept those.

Yep, all EB's are different. Call all the stores in your area. I have like 4. I only had to call 2 of them though. Rig, you really lucked out with those jampacks and exhibition discs.

Yeah rig that's what I did. I bought 2 $1.99 games and 2 $2.99 games off ebgames.com. I'm also including Dark Summit (should I take it out of the shrink wrap) and I'll see if they'll take my NA too. $160? I'm sure the jampacks and duplicates depend on the store, but the POX list shouldn't, cuz it's not mentioned on the flyer.

Yea, I just ordered 10 cheapass games off EBs website for about 20 bucks shipped..gonna take in my extra XBox and my PS2 and get 300 bucks for them...Prolly take in my old PSX and extra DC and 5 old crappy sports games for each of em and get an extra 65 bucks.

I'm going to have to try this soon....half the month is gone. I asked at a couple of stores about their exclusions. One said that I'd have to bring the games in, the other said no exclusions (besides the jampacks) - just full games.

I missed out on the Buy 2 get 1 free at Gamestop this weekend.

Man I cant wait to get my itty bitty PS2. Does anyone know when these are coming in. My store keeps saying the end of the month but there are folks on the sony message board that say their stores already have them. Anybody here got a clue

EBgames says it comes out tomorrow.

fuck! I was just at TRU, and they have the PSTwo! I was pissed. EBGames.com says it ships tomorrow, which means B&M stores probably won't get them in until Friday. My EB said either tomorrow or Friday.
:x :x :x :x :x :x

I just went into eb and checked out the catalog. They have a coupon that's $10 in additional store credit when you trade in a working PS2. Not to be applied to other offers, however when I asked the cashier if I could use that with the 150/5 game trade in she said yes.

Traded in a PS2 with my 5 cheapest games, extra controller, and a memory card. Got me around $165.

No exclusions, they even accepted a JamPack. :)
Any updates on people who preordered yet? My eb still doesn't have them in anyone else in the same boat?
My EB told me Friday. They got it today! :)

Last week when I traded in PS2, they said they'd have it in Tuesday. Now it's tomorrow. If they don't have it tomorrow I'm gonna be pissed.

Mine keeps saying the end of the month, I'm starting to think they are just hanging on to it so they wouldn't be wrong in their guess

When I traded mine in on Sunday, they said Wednesday or Thursday.

I called yesterday and they said they didn't get any. Called today and they said they got a couple in yesterday, but not enough. Don't know if they'll get any more today since it's not on the list, so maybe sometime next week.

My brother-in-law called Wal-Mart and they have 60.

So here I am with no PS2 to play, at the mercy of the "nothin' I can do about it" EB manager. Screw EB.

OK, new update.

My brother-in-law (he's not a timid guy) called EB to tell them that Wal-Mart had 60 of them and that he should go there and buy enough to cover the pre-orders (or at the very least, our two preorders) and keep their customers happy.

The guys talks to his disctrict manager who stop at buys two of them from Wal-Mart. They're now sitting at EB waiting for us to pick them up tonight.

May be a YMMV, but might be worth a shot to some of you in a similar situation.

Good luck, I hope this helps some of you!

Update from me (and my first post on this name?):

I went to EBgames in woodbridge, VA today and the girl at the counter told me you had to trade in with games to get the $100 credit for the system. Just $70 without games. Of course, she had to pull out the sale paper in front of the counter to even tell me what the deal was, so she may have been confused, but just a heads up.

She also said they had a bunch of "PStwo's" in the back but they only covered the pre-orders and they hoped to have more in next week. Any of you do this in a mall? The only other EBs in the area are in malls, and I'll feel like an idiot carrying my consoles through a mall.

Nope luckily not in a mall but the only back pack I could find was my son's Spongebob Square pants one so I felt silly for that

All the EBs that I know of are in malls. The way I go into the closest one is right next to EB, so it isn't much of a hassle.

I got mine. It still surprised me to see just how small it was. Quiet, too. Only problem is that it's not too stable without the vertical stand. Moving the controller around and jiggling the cord is enough to make it fall over. It's horizontal on top of the Xbox for now.

That suprises you?

I got mine today too. The thing was made to sit horizontally. That's how I'll be positioning mine. It's literally the size of a DVD case, so it's not like it takes up a bunch of room.

Traded in my PS2 50001 today with 5 games.
NBA 2k2, Madden 2k2, NBA Live 2k2, NCAA 2k3, and Dark Summit (still sealed) the only question asked was "does it work?" and he tested it to find out that it did. However they only had five pstwo's that were already reserved so he said he'd hit me up when the next shipment arrived. Also my friend is buying my NA for $15 so I broke even =]

No, just dashed my hopes of having a small vertical system (the vertical stand is huge). But I'll probably jury-rig a harness to hold it to the shelf eventually.

The EB I went through claimed to not get any in at all today. It annoys me that their website had them "shipping within 24 hours" earlier... So, I just gave up and went to Wal-Mart and bought one and cancelled my preorder and put the credit down for a DS. I was going to get one anyway. How the heck EB dropped the ball on this one is suprising. The new PS2's are EVERYWHERE here in Lansing, MI - as they have been since Wednesday/Thursday.
Aren't there exclusions to the trade-ins for the PStwo deal though? Is it possible to trade in stuff like older sports games, etc.?
Just check through the post... But, it's YMMV. My EB was not enforcing the pox list; but some other EB's are. Call them - it'll save you much grief.

I went yesterday and the guy told me he didn't know about the deal, but there were probably exceptions on the games. I traded in my PS2, Madden 2002, NBA 2k2, GT3, Unlimited Saga, and SOE and he rang it up as $73 total. But when he put the trade-ins towards the PStwo, the total jumped up to $150. :D

So when you trade your games in, make sure to tell them to put it towards a PStwo.

Oh and my EB got 6 PStwos yesterday and had 13 preorders, he said I’d get mine in a few weeks.
