Contact(DS) takes shot at Sony E3 conference.

 From Joystiq:

1UP's Jeremy Parish was kind enough to post the above picture on his blog, reminding us all that the lifetime of a particularly stinging internet meme is likely to extend beyond that of a mere mortal. The depicted DS game is Contact, an Earthbound-ish RPG from Atlus, one of the few developers that can don the "quirky" tag with pride even as they bounce around a drunken cosplay party. Our first instinct was to question Tomm Hulett, the man in charge of the game's localization, regarding the whereabouts of his elbow in relation to Sony's battered ribs.

"I'll be honest, I can't really speak for the Professor. He has a mind of his own, and he's sure to say all manner of crazy things as you play through Contact. It certainly seems like he's up on his gaming news, though, doesn't it? I have heard that battles in Contact ARE based on actual battles which took place in space, though, so who knows."

Tomm confirmed the presence of crabs in the game, though didn't specify if they were of the "giant enemy" variety as commonly found in feudal Japan.

What's funny is Genji 2 will outsell this obscure Suda 51/Grasshopper Manufacture/Atlus game at least 5 to 1.

Maybe, I mean, Genji 2 IS an action game that takes place in ancient Japan.

Yes. Especially when it goes to 4.96 or so at Circuit City 6 months after launch because no one bought it.

So while we have this game in the spotlight, anyone know anything else about it? I'm interested because of the Sony jab, but I'm certainly not going to buy it only for that.

It's an Atlus game, you'll be lucky to find it 6 DAYS after its release.

Precisely why EVERY game will sell 5 times more.

It's a very quirky Earthbound-ish title, which is what has caused a lot of the interest to this point.

Though I think Strell was referring to Genji being on clearance.
And it's still not funny...
Would you find it funny if I were to say.....give you $599 US DOLLARS?!

Oh no! You've guessed my secret payoff amount! I'm ruined!

*sigh*...only Sony could look stupid enough to warrant a joke about them in a game. I need to watch the Sony's E3 in a nutshell video 7 more times.

A joke about them in a game several months after Sony made an ass of itself.

I think they should delay the games just to add gaint Japanese crabs.

I think all gmaes should be delayed to have GIANT ENEMY CRABS added to them.

It should be mandated law for all games coming out from now until the rest of forever.
please explain the giant enemy crabs and the enemy weakness references kthx
Please use some kind of English.

kthx

The law needs to be giant JAPANESE enemy crabs.

kthx
you seemed to pick up on the only thing that was really questionable at all, so i don't know what was hard to understand.

Considering this game was teased as a new Mother in Japan, it makes perfect sense that Atlus is teasing the American game industry the way it teased the Japanese game market.

No, but people will think it is real. Back in the day, everyone thought that.
But does Contact have Real-Time Weapon Change?
The referenced press conference happened less than 3 months ago. A little soon to be crowning it as an immortal phenom at this point.

Anyway that screen is funny. Subtle, but if you are 'in' on the joke you'd definitely get it.
