*2/10 EDIT*- The deadline to enter the contest is Friday, March 3rd, three weeks from today. If you've been considering donating, please do it soon! Thanks.

Hey All.

A very dear friend of mine (I think of her as the little sister I never had) has signed up to do a 26 mile walk this May to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Before she can participate in the walk, she's required to raise $1800 in donations, and she's feeling a little overwhelmed by the amount. I really want to help her with this, so I decided to appeal to the CAG community and put up a contest open to anyone willing to help out.

Here's how it works: to enter the contest, make at least a $5 donation (but please consider giving more! The more you give, the more stuff you'll win if I draw your name. I'll go into more detail about that below) Here's the link to her personal webpage, set up through the Avon Foundation, the sponsors of the walk:

http://walk.avonfoundation.org/site/TR?pg=personal&fr_id=1160&px=2221158

**EDIT**- Apparently the page above will only accept donations of $10 or more. I apologize, I wasn't aware of this. If you would like to donate $5, please pm me and I'll give you info about how you can donate by check. Again, I'm sorry for not being aware of this before.

There's a button on the page marked "Click here to support me" that allows you to donate using a credit card. If you'd like to give, but don't want to use a credit card, pm me and I'll give you info about how to donate by check. When I draw a winner, they'll get to pick their prizes. I'm putting up a choice of games for the PS2, GC, PC, Dreamcast, N64, and Genesis (sorry, I don't have an XBox), and also a few DVD movies. When I draw a winner, I'll pm them to get their shipping address, verify their donation (my friend's webpage keeps a list for her so she can send out thank-you notes, and I'll keep track of people paying by check), then get their choices and ship them out. **IF YOU DONATE, PLEASE PM ME (AND TELL ME HOW MUCH YOU DONATED) SO I'LL KNOW TO ENTER YOU IN THE CONTEST!!*

- If the winner donated $5, they can pick one item from each of 3 different categories of their choice
- If the winner donated $10, they can pick one item from each of 5 different categories of their choice
- If the winner donated $25 or more, they can pick one item from each of the 7 categories, as well as one item from a bonus category (TV on DVD sets)
- If the total donations from CAG reaches $200, I'll also throw in a $25 gift card to the store of the winner's choice
- If the total donations from CAG reaches $400, I'll make it a $50 gift card to the store of the winner's choice
- If the total donations from CAG reaches $500, I'll add the $50 gift card for the winner, plus draw 2nd and 3rd place winners, who will each get to pick games or movies using the rules above (from what's left over), as well as a $15 gift card to the store of their choice.

All games and movies should be considered "lightly used" (scratch-free, in excellent condition and complete with everything but the shrinkwrap. A few N64 boxes may be slightly beat up) unless otherwise noted. Here are the prize options for each category:

So does it all sound good? You could conceivably win yourself 6 games, a movie, a DVD set....AND a $50 gift card (depending on the generosity of the CAG community), all for making a $25 donation to a very, very worthy cause. Even a $5 donation helps. Every little bit helps. Even if there's not one thing on the lists that you'd want to win, please consider donating. You'll be helping out a great girl, and a great cause.

Deadline: I've decided to set a deadline of March 3rd. I'll draw the winner at random on the morning of Saturday, March 4th. Thank you very much in advance to everyone who donates, and good luck.

All I can say about this dude, is you kick ass. Once I get my finances in order I'll definately be dontating

I just wanted to mention that it's been brought to my attention that my friend's webpage will only accept donations of $10 or more. I've edited my original post, but I wanted to post again here for anyone who just skimmed my ridiculously long (sorry about that) original post. You can still donate $5, but I guess you'll have to do it by check. (If you pm me, I can give you my address, and I'll get the check to my friend- the check would be made out to "Avon Walk for Breast Cancer")

I'm really sorry about the mixup, and I apologize to anyone who tried to donate $5 at the link I posted.
just out of curiousity - whats the donation level at currently?
Her total donations received currently stands at $261, so she still has a long way to go. There have been 2 donations from CAGs so far. I hope that number will increase over the next week, but we'll see. In the meantime all I can do is hope for the best and occasionally bump this thread.

I haven't given her my donation yet, and I know my parents and my brother are also planning to give something, as well as a few of my coworkers. If I can't end up helping her raise enough money, it won't be for a lack of trying.

dont get me wrong, i totally believe in what youre doing and you should be comended for it. But what kind of organization wont take anything less than 1800, its kind of bullshit and probably turns alot of people away from it.

BTW what part of Mass is this in?

BTW what part of Mass is this in?
Thanks. I completely agree with you about the $1800 requirement. I think part of it may go toward provisions for the walkers, or the costs associated with getting them there, and I guess they set up a sort of tent village for them since the walk is over two days (May 20-21), but it's still an outrageous amount to expect someone to raise just to participate. There are 8 of these walks scheduled around the country this year, and apparently thousands of people do the walk. Maybe some of them get corporate sponsorship or something. I don't know, but I'm really starting to wonder if she'll be able to raise that much money.

The walk is going to be in Boston. She and I both live about 45 minutes from Boston by car, so if she ends up walking I plan to go down to sort of cheer her on. The other cities that are having Avon walks this year are Washington D.C., Chicago, Denver, San Fransisco, Los Angeles, New York, and Charlotte.

I have no money but I would gladly donate another game. I am going to let Danimal pick one game from my TL and he can have it.
I just put $10 into the fund :)
Way to go Visc.
I have agreed to donate Halo 2 to Danimals list and possibly some more stuff which I will surprise him with  Stop slacking people, this is for a better cause than my "New Years Resolution" game giveaway a while back and this also has a WAY better prize selection! Tighten up give back a couple of those bucks you have saved thanks to this site!

That is alot. I ride the local MS150 every year. It's a 150 mile bike ride over two days. There are tents set up about every 10 miles, plus lunch and breakfast, plus facilities at the state fair grounds if you want to camp overnight (I just get a hotel). Plus they have weekly "training" rides in the area all summer to get you ready. They only ask for a minimum pledge of $200 + about $20 to sign up.

Anyway, I'm glad you did this, maybe I can do somehting on a smaller scale in the fall when I am collecting donations.

Excellent. Thank you, Visc! :applause: (and thanks again to everyone else who's donated so far)

bumping this again.

I've got 4 donations so far, so look at it this way- if you donate, your odds of winning are pretty decent. I'd love to see that total doubled when I check back here tonight after I get up (I work nights, sleep days) In case you missed Eviltude's post above, he is giving me Halo 2 to add in to the winner's package of prizes. HALO 2?! Are you kidding me? That's worth trying for all by itself! If you don't want to donate through the link in my original post, you can always pm me for info about other ways to donate.

Just for the record, if I happen by some miracle to win this, find a second winner for Halo 2 - I don't have an xbox;)
I donated $75. I forgot to fill out the message box to her, but I wish her luck and fun.
$75?!

Wow, that is amazingly generous of you. You just made my day. Thank you very much!

Give em Halo 2:bouncy: For a donation that high the CAGer deserves something I reckon :)

Not to rain on the parade, but if she doesn't raise enough money by the deadline, where is all the money going?

Btw, tag for later. Gotta get my paycheck and I'm down.

If he wants it and Danimal agrees to it, I'm game. I haven't sent it out yet. Danimal, if he wants it, pick another game of mine.

Most likely it will still go to the foundation they're sponsoring. I don't think it would go back to the people that donated.

Free bump from me.

Free bump from me.
That's right. If she doesn't get to $1800, the money she raises still goes to the Avon Foundation for research and treatment of breast cancer. Knowing how much she wants to do this walk, though, there is no way I'm going to let her not make it. If I have to sell off half of everything I own on ebay, and beg strangers on the street for change, that's what I'll do. (I don't think it will come to that, though)
If he wants it and Danimal agrees to it, I'm game. I haven't sent it out yet. Danimal, if he wants it, pick another game of mine.
I PMed DKN about this. It's fine with me. When I hear back from DKN, I'll let you know.

Definitely well deserved. :applause: :applause: (the second emoticon is applauding Eviltude for the generous offer of Halo 2 to help the cause)

Just wanted to mention that I've set a deadline of March 3rd to enter the contest (3 weeks from today) I've edited my original post to reflect this as well. If you've been thinking about donating, please do it soon. Thanks.

Thanks for the bumps, guys.

Come on now, I know there has to be more than 5 CAGs willing to help out a worthy cause for a chance to win a pile of free stuff.
