Converting to Mp4 Video Format

I've been looking for some free software to do this for a while. All I've found is the Videora converter, which works fine but screws up the first 2 minutes of the video.

I also have a couple of avi's that I'd like to splice together, assuming that's possible (I don't see why it wouldn't be).

Any CAG advice on some free no-BS video converting/combining software?

I use Videora for my iPod and I don't have problems with it messing up the beginning.

I've always used virtualdub to combine .avi's. http://www.virtualdub.org/ Just make sure what you're combining has same resolution, codec, etc

Virtualdub works, have anything that can combine wmv's?

If I'm not mistaken (I haven't used VDub in ages) but you should be able to do it in VDub. I think you need to have two of them open, each one with video. Then just select the video, cut it, and paste it to the other one..

Again, I'm pretty damn fuzzy on it but I definitely remember doing something similar with VDub back in the day.
