Costco.ca--good deal?

I'm wanting to buy my husband and our 2 kids a Wii for Christmas, but have no idea what I'm doing. He frequents this site...so I'm being sneaky and figure I'll ask the experts!

costco.ca currently has the red edition wii, 4 remotes (2 motion plus...or something like that...and 2 regular), 2 nunchuks, wii sports, and the Super Mario game...for $349 with taxes and shipping.

Good deal?

I'm not crazy about the red, but I know that's the game we want and know that we need 4 controllers.

HELP!

Doesn't include taxes. Only shipping.

So...it's an extra $130 (from the best buy price of $209) for 3 controllers and an extra nunchuk.

Doing the math in my head...that's an ok price, but not fantastic.

Right?

Going off of FS website prices.

Comparing of how much the extra's you're getting would cost at another electronics store to what you're paying extra with the Costco.ca bundle

1 extra nunchuk = $24.99
1 extra Wii remote + motion plus bundle = $59.99
2 extra Wii remotes = $49.99 each

Total = $184.95 what buying the extra accessories individually at F.S. would cost. You are paying an extra $140 through Costco for the extra accessories.

Unless someone wants to correct my math and products I believe you are saving around ~$40 (+tax of course) by buying the bundle through Costco.

Hope this helps!

If it's any consolation, the red is more of a collector's item (25th anniversary edition), which arguably makes it more desirable. If your husband is a "gamer" he may appreciate the unique red console more.

Hope this helps![/QUOTE]It's only a ~$25 savings since the Costco bundle comes with 2 Wiimote+ and two regular Wiimotes. Wiimote+ are $50 (you linked them as the regular Wiimotes) and regular Wiimotes are $45 each.

Wii $210
Wiimote+ $50
Wiimote x 2 $90
Nunchuk $25
Total $375

All they're really giving for free is 1 Nunchuk.

Don't forget about Costco perks.

If you're an executive member, you get 2% back (around 6 bucks. hey it's something :p) and also if the thing breaks down, you can exchange it for a new one (unless something happened where this no longer happens or got severely gimped).

But other than that, it's not bad of a deal and who knows when Costco will have another sale for hardware (usually 10-15 bucks off). This is also considering that the original white Wii that got phased out months ago is 150 if there are any left.

But yeah, you're pretty much getting a free nunchuck and a bunch of conveniences.

But then there's always this week's Walmart sale. Here's a picture for quick and dirty:

Note: You still have to buy Wiimotes and nunchucks seperately, which comes out to around the same (give or take 5 bucks).

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your input.

I'm going to go for it. The fact that I don't have to go anywhere, and only have to order it online, is a perk for me. The less travelling to wal mart I have to do, the better. It is a free nunchuk, and we need a 2nd one anyway (don't we? for games like boxing?).

I'm glad I stopped by, thanks!

dont know if they'll ever get the red one (wouldnt be surprised, they have had special ds packages), but there is no where remotely comparable to SDM for buying hardware.

Buy the wii for $210 on 20x day, get points worth up to $84

Buy a mario game for $60, get points worth $24

sadly it used to be far better then that, but that would still blow away costco is you shop on the right days

I've order a few things from their website and it has been excellent so far.
Shipping sometimes can be a little slow but it arrives UPS so it doesn't suffer from Canada Post abuse. Also no one can beat their return policy if there are problems. It's not as great as it use to be but it still beats every other retailer out there.

Like others have said you may get a better deal shopping around, but if the package comes with everything you want and you're ok with the price then go for it.

I hadn't thought of SDM...that's brilliant. But, I wonder when they'll have 20x points next?

The Costco return policy is a draw.

Thank you--I'm going to try on the 20th for SDM...does anybody know if they have the black Wii? If I can get that on the 20th along with the Mario game then I'll be happy. If I can't get it there on the 20th then I'll order the Costco bundle.

:)

They've had the black one since it came out but its always ymmv on what any given store has at any time. Only way to know is to ask.

I went to SDM today, and got the red Wii for $209...thanks so much for the tip! They have the black and white ones on for $189, but I figured if I was going to buy the Mario Bros. game anyway then I was better off with the red one--plus it's new and a bit of a collectors item.

So...got the red Wii and 3 more remotes--a black one, a pink one (for my daughter) and a blue one (for my son). Also picked up a razor for my husband, plus some groceries...spent $580 and got 124 000 points. That translates to more than $200 in free items at SDM...plus the manager told me that in a few weeks they will have double redemption time--so that will give me nearly $400 in free stuff.

That makes me a happy girl!

Thanks for the tips!

Now that sounds like a pretty sweet CAG deal. $400 worth of free merchandise!! :)

I wouldn't buy the red console for it's "collectability"... how many North American "limited edition" consoles from the past are worth anything? Very few.

Yeah, it wasn't so much about the collectors edition as it was about the game. I was going to buy the SMB game for $59.99 anyhow, so I figured an extra $20 for the system was worth it.

My friend bought the red one on Saturday at a different SDM and got it for the $189 price--the girl there thought it was all Wiis on for $189. I didn't go back to the original store, figured it wasn't quite worth my time and gas to drive across the city...but apparently it's annoying me that she got it for $20 less!
