Dear Costco Member,

You requested to be notified when the Sony PlayStation 3 Bundle is available for purchase at Costco Wholesale. This item will be available for purchase on costco.com on Friday, November 17, 2006 at approximately 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The item will be prominently displayed on the homepage of costco.com until it is sold out.

Due to an extremely limited supply, we can accept orders from current Costco members only on a first come, first served basis, with a limit of one unit per household. The Costco warehouses do not have units available at this time.

Orders for the Sony PlayStation 3 Bundle will be shipped via UPS by Monday, November 20, 2006. Tracking information will be available on costco.com.

We hope to receive additional quantities in our warehouses and on costco.com prior to Christmas, but we do not have an estimated arrival date, or approximate quantity at this time. We apologize in advance if you are unable to purchase this item from Costco Wholesale.

time to get all hard for this

I dont blame Sony. They created demand for $600 system that has no games except maybe Resistence that any good at launch. And a system that has many problems from what I'm hearing. I blame parents having to buy there kid the hot toy for Christmas paying $2500 on ebay.

This is just craziness. I think I will end up buying something else for my sis and her kids Xmas.

I find this absolutely hilarious probably because I don't want one for myself at all.

I cant even get to check out.

Would make me happy just have have a "no soup for you you" versus having to reload every minute for nothing

I think it's official ... this is the worst launch ever by a videogame console. The launch was a disaster because of the poor handling by Sony and retailers.

Or the best, it's the lead story in every news source in the world. It's been sold out since 2 days before it came out. People were bitching about he $600 price tag; it's a 5 star bargain if you can get it for that. It's caused multiple websites to crash. People will be talking about this for years as a measuring stick for every other big launch, including the Wii. Maybe as a cautionary tale, though.

I was holding off and looking at porn to keep the bandwidth free, but the hell with that.

Let the shucking begin.

BAHAHAHAHA that's awesome.

Oh, and that Wal-Mart "promotion"...totally idiotic. Just asking for a disaster like that.

Oh, and i was on CostCo @ 7:41 exactly. it was up then

Is that cause you didn't get one? ;)
Naw man I hear ya, I've been lucky and able to get every major system on launch day. Ps3 is my first defeat. Only 200k units so what could you expect. I'm gonna keep trying in the coming weeks.

By the way. Looks like costco.com go boom.

The xbox360 launch was bad in places...but nothing like this.

The limited availablity is just asking for trouble...and retailers holding their allotment close to the vest until the last minute (or close) isn't the best way to handle things, either.

This will be measuring stick, all right....a measuring stick on how NOT to launch a console. Now we get to wait and see just how slow (or fast, though I doubt it) the trickle of PS3's is over the next 3 months. From what I'm hearing this is almost a "preview", rather than a full release, given the number of people that are actually going to get a chance to lay hands on one of these things.
I still can't get the checkout screen to load. Anyone have any luck?
I got it to load, which gave me a screen with shipping options. Took another 20 min to load the 'continue checkout' button. Once, I clicked that...error!

This was my last option as I went to Costco today to see if they had any in my store and they didn't...

The real question is how many of the people who were waiting for the PS3 and didn't get one will now purchase the 360 (or Wii) this Xmas and not look back? The hype in all of this was due entirely to scarcity, not how incredible the machine actually is, especially in comparison to it's cheaper competitors.

If the hype lasts until they get sufficient quantity, then I can see this being a success. But how patient will people be?

It doesn't matter if I get one or not because it's not for me, and I can just as easily select another gift for Xmas. I'll probably just end up getting a Wii and 4 games or something instead or get something that is not videogames. Either way I don't care. I just think it was pretty poorly handled regardless of what happens.

I already got myself a Xmas gift, the Walmart Wii bundle :)

... And yes, Costco.com is pretty shitty right now. My boss wanted one really bad, and he's bitching and moaning about how he can't get one. I wish he could complain to someone else :p
why bother? it's been OOS for about an hour now
After the initial sign of OOS it came back in, but like everyone I could only get as far as the 'add to cart' page. Now the whole site is FUBAR.

im so glad im no die hard need to have it consumer. am i trying to get one? sure, but im not gonna go out of my way for the damn thing. hopefully the wii will be easier to obtain for everyone. sony manufacturing a scarcity in their product is just their way of getting free publicity and like lemmings, the media and the fools that camp out eat it up

First post. This is ridiculous. It went live for me at 7:43 PST...I had been refreshing since 7:00am. Added to cart, couldn't check out. At around 8:40, the page finally began to load for me, with a message that my "cart was empty". That is such bullshit. Somehow, I think the people working on Costco's servers snagged all the systems for themselves, or had their family members snag them. Honestly, it's almost impossible for ANYONE to have gotten all the way through the purchase. Pure, utter bullshit. With all the people on Fatwallet or CAG or the PS3 forum, you'd figure that odds are at least a COUPLE of us would be able to make the purchase on Costco. I haven't seen any legitimate posts yet.

Conspiracy theory or not...this is bullshit.

had it in my cart, but i've been getting error messages for past 20 minutes. doubt its still in my cart after all that. guess i'll be having fun with my wii instead.

I'm sure everyone here will have fun with their Wii, considering that I don't have reserve my bandwith anymore, lol.

I've never believed the "free publicity" argument because it would be retarded for any company to want to sell LESS systems. Sony's going to spend like millions on advertising as it is, AND they're going to lose roughly about $240 on each console sold...why sell less consoles, and in turn, LESS software games(where they make ALL their profits) just to be on the 6 o'clock news? I think they tried to use a cheaper Blu-Ray player in their system to cut costs, and that's where the manufacturing snag hit.

Basically, they were not ready to launch. 400,000 units? I'd be willing to bet the real figures will be 250,000 at best.

I heard sony couldn't even make the 100k mark.....

either way they created a need from the public. "YOU NEED TO HAVE IT"

Not to be an @$$ but when you refer to countable items such as systems or games, it's "FEWER", not less.

Sorry, it's the English major in me talking -- that, or my frustration with this PS3 mess ;-)

I love how salty you guys are. Evidently you've never tried to purchase something online with hundreds of thousands of people trying to do the same. "conspiracy theory" or "Costco sucks" .... you've got to be kidding me. Costco made a decision that makes a ton more sense than creating a ton of problems at their retail stores, at least nobody is getting hurt by not being able to check out....

I'll be happy to return to Gears tonight.

I have to agree with this. There's a certain point where scarcity would build up a lot of demand for a product, but this is totally unbalanced for them. I don't think Sony wanted to be this short of units at launch and are now way behind. Plus, the launch lineup is the worst I've seen since Sega CD and 3DO. I think even Sega CD had Final Fight, and Sewer Shark was a pack in (even though it sucked) for $300+.

Final Fight always rawks :)

But really...what did PS2 have? Fantavision and Tekken Tag? Blah! Xbox had Halo and...umm...Fusion Frenzy? Halo is brilliant, but apparently Resistance rocks, too. Cube had Luigi's Mansion and Wave Race...again not the most fantastic titles.
either way they created a need from the public. "YOU NEED TO HAVE IT"
Totally agree, and they sent that message real well to the rich people bidding upwards of 2-3 thousand(legitimate bids) on Ebay. I'm sure that 80% of the campers that got a system are Ebaying it to the retards willing to spend $2,500 and have the first-gen systems crash on them, overheat, or have some type of error.

I'll be honest, I was gonna Ebay that sucker. But I'm not willing to camp out 5 days in advance.
