If Sony wanted to add custom soundtracks on any game (like the Xbox 360 and PS3) could they do something like that with a firmware update....also, if a game company wanted their new PSP game to have custom soundtracks, could they do that. I think custom soundtracks would be really cool on the PSP it would probably also help boost Sony's PSP sales since they aren't doing so well with it right now.

Sure they can. Wii does it from an SD card, so why COULDN'T the PSP do it?

Actually, there wouldn't be any need for a firmware update. The PSP has had a consistent definition of where and how music files on the Memory Stick are stored. The game just needs to have the functionality implemented.

Firmware support could make the task easier on developers but it's not a lot of work with what the platform already supplies.

Actually Rockstar already allow custom soundtrack in GTA Liberty City Stories. If developers want it, it is not that hard to add.

You could just hook up your music to your sound system and turn off the in game audio. BAM! Instant custom soundtrack.

But seriously, yeah, I'd think that a simple firmware upgrade would do it.
