Couple questions about the PSP

So I just bought a PSP yesterday (Daxter one ) and I have a few questions.

1) Are you suppose to turn on the PSP first and then put the UMD in or put the UMD in before turning on the PSP?

2) Does your PSP slim make this sssss sound when loading a UMD and is that normal?

1. UMD can be taken in/out at XMB.
2. The loading noise is new with the slims. The older models are quieter. So to answer your question, yet it is normal.
