So the other poster seems to have taken out the information in his thread so I figured I'd start a new one...

Trade in 4 GBA games and pre-order Nintendogs for free at EBGames B&M. This deal has been confirmed by several of us here including me.

Here's the list of pre-owned excluded (POX) games thanks to vietgurl!

GBA POX
Bum (Butt Ugly Martians?)
Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2
Dragonball Z: Collectible Card Game
Ecks vs. Sever
Fortress
Fire Pro Wrestling
Iridion
Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX
Ready 2 Rumble 2
WWF: Road to Wrestlemania

The trade in any 3 preowned games seems to be a huge YMMV because not many people have gotten it to work. There's a supposed Streetwise coupon that allows you to trade in any 3 games, no exceptions, to get the preorder but none of us has seen it yet. I'll keep this post updated with any incoming information from you guys.

The promotion code is #3901 if that helps anybody.

Edit: Just did the trade 4 deal... Promo #3929

I traded Dragonball GT Video, Cartoon Network Video, Xevious, and Rayman Advance and was able to preorder the Daschund version with no problems. They didn't take Iridion 3D though as was expected.

Edit 2: The coupon has finally appeared!

Thanks to darkcrawlspace

The coupon is good until September 5, but I don't think anybody here has tried using it yet. Go get 'em!

Edit 3: Link fixed. Also thanks to ahmedmalik and SanjuroTsubaki for their help.

the EB by my job is doing the trade 4 for a free Nintendogs. While at lunch I wandered in there and asked and they said yeah. I only have 3 games with me and he verified that they were good for the promo but I needed another so I bought Pinobee. It was the cheapest they had and it works so I will trade all 4 in this afternoon.

Please, oh please do not trade in Robopon, maybe you should actually give the game a try, you will find out that its an excellent monster/robot collecting RPG from atlus.

The fact that they are charging 5$ for this really makes me hurt!!! Its an awesome game.

Also you might be able to get some cash on ebay for robopon, it is a rare atlus title.

I traded in my bootleg games. They were good games, but the fact that they were bootleg really really bugged me.

Although I am starting to miss playing Double Dragon on my GBA already bootleg or not. It worked fine.

so i was in my local EB trying to get 3 games for the deal instead of 4, but no go. so i bought 2 other games and pre-ordered 2 copies.

an interesting thing happened while i was there though, when i first got in, i see the two employees talking to some guy wearing a red G4 shirt with an english accent, and for the most part, i really didn't care what they were talking about, until i heard the G4 guy mention "Cheap Ass Gamer." he then went on to explain how the site had all these deals, and how the site always get the deals way before the general public did. i didn't say anything to them though, i just smiled and took my leave.

Trading in bootleg games is VERY dishonerable, especially if you know they are bootleg games (if you dont know then its ok, cause you dont know)

Bootleg games are worth nothing, they are illegal and the employees that you traded them to could get in trouble for taking them (however they really should be taught to check for bootleg games because it takes like 10 seconds), the store that is selling them could get in trouble as well because its illegal to sell them, the police could even be on them and stuff.

Also realize they take your name when you trade in stuff so it can come back to you if you knowingly trade in bootlegs, i would imagine they would check things out if they found out and all 4 games turned out to be bootleg.

Ok, enough about the rant, i traded in my 4 games and got nintendogs free. I also got the penny card back like many of you mentioned. I traded in DBZ:Legacy of goku 1, Edd Edd and eddy jawbreakers, frogger 2, and yugioh eternal duelist soul. These games are basically worthless to me and the first 2 games i bought at a garage sale last year and i paid like 1$ each for them. All the games worked and none were bootlegs. I tried to trade in DBZ card game but it was POX, i wanted to do this deal fast before the POX list got longer. I had games with boxes and manual and they said they throw the box and manual out so at least i was able to get my boxes back (im an obsessive collector).

Here are the trade in values without the promo for the games, might be useful info for those thinking of trading in these games:

DBZ Legacy of Goku 1 = .75
Edd Edd and Eddy = 2$
Frogger 2 = 2$
Yugioh = 1$
Just put the nitendogs cart to your crotch and make her get it off with her mouth. Then your both happy.
that is so wrong, but if she loves it that much, she'll do it.:baby:

Finally got in on the deal, I tried it last night but the clerk (nice guy he was), was clueless. I traded 4 GB Videos, three of which I bought for a buck and change of eb.com. And as my trivial contribution to this deal, GR are clearing out their GBVideos for 4.99 each. so burn that credit whle you can.

Did you realize, VietGirl works for EB ?
Did you realize, VietGirl works for EB ?
I would say that SaraAB's post is even more important considering that. As a customer, I would be pissed to buy a used game from EB and later find it to be a bootleg. Since vietgurl is an employee, I would hope that she would try to keep that from happening to customers by refusing to accept bootleg games. The fact that she did the opposite is not a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, it's possible that management at that EB has no problem with accepting bootleg games. If that's the case, the fault really lies with management for allowing such a thing.

Nah, I say leave vietgurl alone on this . . . most of the bootlegs out there are getting so good that most customers won't know the difference. Those who would aren't going to buy cart only used games to begin with.

My sister-in-law was proud of a few GBA games she got for her son for super cheap on ebay . . . I pointed out "Nintondo" on the back of one of the carts! She didn't notice or care.

The amount of bootlegs in the market is staggering and I wouldn't expect EB or GS to catch bootlegs as they come in.

vietgurl is obviously an experienced gamer and knows the difference . . . Grandma Clara and little Joey won't care . . . no harm done.

If you go on eBay and search for any GBA game, you're likely to find at least a 5:1 bootleg to original ratio. It's not hard to tell the difference on eBay, but I do feel sorry for people who bid on them.

They work, sure, but if you're going to buy a bootleg, you might as well just download the game off of the internet anyway...

But, yeah, I don't condone the trading of bootlegs in the least bit. It's unfair.

That logic is horrible. When I spend my money to buy an item, I want it to be the item I bought. Why would I accept a bootleg? Sure they work the same, look the same, but the fact of the matter is they are illegal and not the item you wanted.

Next time you buy some PS1 games, I'm sure you wouldn't want a CD-R and a bootdisc to come in the mail. "But it works the same" doesn't matter

I think it's horrible that she traded those in, not only knowing they were bootlegs, but working at EB.

Stop pointing out that I work at EB, lol. I'm doing them a favor by staying since I put in my notice 3 weeks ago and my boss begged me to stay until he could find another person.

I pointed out to my boss that they were bootlegs before trading them in but he didnt' care as long as they worked. A customer that same day bought Double Dragon and I also pointed it out to him that it was bootleg but he tried it out, liked it, and bought it anyway.

How long does EBGames hold the game after it is released, for you? I need to know becasue the nearest EBGames is about an hour drive, and I don't think I can go get it immediately after it's released.

I complained to Nintendo about a local EB Games taking in and selling bootlegs after the Manager of the store shrugged me off when I pointed it out.

The GR in Huntington Beach, on Magnolia has about 10 left on clearance. (None left at the Brookhurst store). I just completed my second preorder, and have used 8 different GB Videos to complete the deal. I don't think in the big picture of things that this is a huge discount, I suspect the game will sell for 20-24$ at Fry's on the release weekend, but hey every dime counts.
Didn't have any games I wanted to get rid of and didn't have the drive to buy and resell, so jumped on the Overstock deal for $20 after $10 coupon. But I wholeheartedly support everyone in their efforts. :)
Do you have a link to this $10 coupon by any chance? 20 bucks for Nintendogs is still a hell of a deal.

It was part of a signup drive on the main page here to get a $10 Overstock coupon after signing up for Overstock Auctions. Sorry, don't have any links, as I think that deal is gone.

I am in western Mass, and two of the EBs I've called claim no knowledge of this promotion whatsoever.

Am I missing something?
I feel confused.

I was able to trade in just now. The guy was really cool, he was letting me do 3 games at first. I had brought in 7. I did my Zelda trade in first. Then moved on to Nintendogs. All the games I brought worked but when he was about to finish the transaction he paused cause the comp was taking 4. He told me to wait a sec while he checks promotions cause he swore it was 3 and he'll do it manually if he can find it, I looked around for awhile then afer a few minutes he said sorry it looks likes its 4. I said its cool and I'll just come back with another game sometime this week. He said he'd let me change it up to 3 each if he can find anything that says the promo is 3, or he'll ask his manager since he wasn't around. I'm content with 4 but if he can let me go for 3 later he'd be my new best friend. If not I'm just going to get a copy of Galidor from them for $3.99 to trade in next time I'm there.

Here's what I traded in for the Daschund Version-
Virtual Tennis - Free at TRU
Banjo Kazooie $1.99 at CC
X2 Wolverine " " " "
International Winter Sports 2002 " " " "

Sweet deal. When I trade in again I'm going to get the Chihuahua version for my bro.

Also if anyone's curious, I traded in the following for Zelda-
Turok PS2 Free at TRU
Monster 4x4 PS2 (trades in for a suprisingly high $7) $1.99 at CC
MX Superfly GC " " " "
Frogger GC " " " "
Medabots Infinity GC $7.50 at TRU (bought it a couple weeks ago for my bro and he didnt like it)

Yea it was only through July I think. I used my $10 to get a $9 book. I had to pay the $1 shipping out of pocket, so I still have a buck credit left.

I was able to trade in these three, which I didn't think would work but did, no problem:

NFL Blitz 2003
Iridion
Tony Hawk 2

They simply did an override, and voila - Nintendogs in mine. For those in the Indy area, the Southport EB is the place. The manager is a super nice guy, definitely the best out of all the ones in the area.

BTW, they were saying that you can unlock ALL the dogs by simply finding someone who has the other carts, then wi-fi-ing to their DS. Any truth to this?

The whole bootleg thing sounds like a problem with corporate and not anyone here on these forums, i would assume they are accepting bootleg games as trade in and just selling them as a regular game, so they really arent losing any money on this, problem is selling bootlegs IS an illegal act whether you sell them second hand or bought directly from hong kong, so this could backfire at them eventually.

The way i figure it is if corporate was really concerned then they would have a huge sign in the store something like a picture of a bootleg gba game and various descriptions on it of how to spot ones, the employees would also be taught this, there would also be various disclaimers in the store that they do not accept bootleg games and anyone trying to trade them in will have their games refused.

There are enough bootlegs out there where corporate should be concerned, especially since it involves selling illegal products, telling the BBB, nintendo, and various other organizations is your best bet at this time, possibly even the local police, i know they have gotten involved with CD bootleg issues over here. Especially if the particular store whatever chain it may be has a large amount of bootleg games, i wouldnt bother starting something for 1 or 2 games unless more start appearing. I dont think the authorities would do much for just 1 or 2 games.

As you all may know nintendo is VERY anti-bootlegging, so if they get word that stores are selling bootleg games they will probably take some sort of action.

I believe you can unlock all dogs in each version by just playing it, you can earn points and stuff to buy more dogs. I think you can also get the other dogs by finding people with the different version and unlocking them this way as well, this way is faster than getting them in game i believe.

I do believe all the dogs are availible in each version whether you wifi with someone or not, cause its not supposed to matter which version you buy, it just depends which starter dogs you most enjoy having.

I think there is one problem though. I've been told that there are unlockable toys (such as a Mario Kart racecar, hats, toys, etc) that are unique to each of the three versions. The dogs can be obtained but the toys cannot (unless you trade through Wi-Fi)

I am not 100% sure if this is true, but I don't like the idea that one version of the game will be unable to have certain toys that the other versions possess.

I'm going to be out of town when Nintendogs is released (probably till Friday of that week). Does this mean they just give away my fully paid for copies to someone else? I understand, maybe, on a $5 down preorder that they wouldn't hold it forever, but if it is fully paid for (even if it was with the trade 3 deal :D), they should hold it indefinitely - and the preorder bonus as well! I'm not too worried about not getting the game if I go in Friday, but I am worried about the preorder bonus stuff...

I guess I have no choice but to socialize since Nintendogs is not online.

Most of my friends are into games but none of them own DS... the only person I know that has DS (who intends to buy this game) lives 3,000 miles away from me.

Guess I'll have to make new DS buddies... I pre-ordered the Lab version so I hope the extra content on that version will suffice for me.

I told the guys at EB they should have a day where all the Nintendogs owners could come in and wifi each other. Promote it when people come in to pick up their preorders. Then you a) make customers happy because they can get all this stuff they wouldn't otherwise and b) are in your store, so they'll be likely to buy more stuff.

The manager really liked the idea. No idea if corporate would let them do it or not...

You would THINK they would hold it for you, after all like you said its paid for. I agree with that aspect of it. However if it was a $5 down situation, I'd understand...Since they would likely have a customer come in that had the cash in hand at that moment and it would be difficult to pass up a sale like that. I have a feeling they get a bunch of goof balls who come in and probably forget they even put the $5 down in the first place.

The bottom line is, and this is just IMO, but I highly doubt the game would be sold out. Either they will have plenty of copies to go around (It seems to be one of the big games Nintendo is pushing this season) or they will not have much in the way of sales for them to be sold out in the first place.

I'm sure by the weekend you'll be rubbing digital puppy ass with a stylus just peachy fine. :applause:

As a side note....

Anyone check out the demo yet? I was in EB the other day at the mall killing time while my watch was getting repaired and they had the Nintendogs demo along side Meteos. Its a 5 minute timed demo where you can play with 3 of the dogs in a yard. I was hooked instantly. I felt like a complete idiot playing it, but I didn't give 2 wads of crap...I love goofy little games like this that try to be different. The wife is now anxiously awaiting it as well.

I guess I'm one of those all around gamers, one minute I'm sniping off heads in Halo 2 and the next I am rubbing a Nintendog's face. Nintendo may be the underdog (No pun intended, hehe) these days in system sales but as long as they are around and have a presence, its all good IMO.

Assuming it's some big ass title like Madden 2006, that you paid full price for, they would probably hold it for the 48 hour period, and then sell it to people. At that point, you'd have to wait for the next shipment to get a copy, which you would pay nothing for. Of course, if you were pre-ordering Madden, you're most likely going to pick it up on the 9th.

So, I'm pretty sure they'll hold your game for 48 hours, but it's on the shelves after that, and you would get one anyway. It's not like they void the pre-order after 48 hours.

When the blue DS was released, they even held it for me for 4 days so I could pick it up on Sunday, the first day you could get Mario 64 free with a DS purchase. And that was just with the $20 deposit; I didn't pay in full until I picked it up.

When you go in to preorder, just mention that you won't be able to pick it up immediately. Let them know when you will be able to, and assuming they're not complete jerks, they'll probably just make a note of that on the preorder slip they keep, and hold your copy and bonus items until then, especially if you've paid in full.

I played it in Target. I think I felt like an idiot not necessarily because of the game, but because the DS kiosk was about 2.5' off the ground. So I was completely bent over like I was tying my shoes standing up and playing around with the DS. When the dog ran up to the bottom screen and jumped up on it, I was hooked. I have a dog, but she's more the sedentary type. :)

Dude, you are so dead on. When that doxie jumped on the screen at me with its paws flat on the screen I just thought that was the coolest. Then again, I've been told I am easily amused.

I guess the whole A.I. thing is just striking a chord with me. It was the first time I tried the game and was really impressed on the nature and realistic movements etc of the dogs in motion.

Something like this is why I ended up getting a DS.

EB will hold for 48 hours...after that they can sell it. Remember, the faster they sell out, the sooner they get more copies in for sale. They can't hold onto your pre-order forever especially when others have money ready to buy.

Just called my local EB (who normally are pretty competent) and they confirmed the trade 3 deal. My wife and I are headed that way as soon as I decide which one I want.

I called my EBGames and they said they had no idea what I was talking about in terms of a Nintendogs trade-in deal.
"You're welcome to trade in your games though"
:bomb:

Just did the trade. It was for 4 games here in Baltimore and there is a B3G1F deal going on (not sure if it was b/c of my Edge card). So all together, it was $15.

I made sure to go to the local EB with cool employees who have been down for promos in the past.

The clerk was nice enough to just type in the codes for 4 4.99 gba games, I paid him. Then he opened a new transaction using those upc's and did the trade.

Do you think EB will let you swap the Nintendogs pre-order for another DS preorder?

I preordered only 1-copy thus far (which I intend to keep and play) but had still have a few worthless GBA games in my library... I was thinking maybe I could preorder Nintendogs via this trade-in 4 deal and then a week or two later, swap the preorder for something like Animal Crossing DS or Mario Kart DS.

Does EB have a record of how their customers preordered Nintendogs (i.e. trade in 4 GBA games) or does it just show up as a fully paid preorder in their computer system?

Is this bonus "Paw Cleaner" supposed to be that red thing dangling off of the lunchbag? I want to make sure they give me everything.

I've been to two EB's abouth this deal. The first said I could trade 3 with the "Streetwise" coupon and the other, today, went into the system and read verbatim the trade in 4 for 1 copy of Nintendogs or 8 for 2 copies. So if you are fortunate to get in on the trade 3 w/o the coupon congrats, as for everyone else I think you will be trading in four until this coupon surfaces. If I find the coupon I will post here. Good luck to you all.
The EB I generally go to is really good about holding stuff more than 48 hours.

I've already preordered them. I might call and ask if they'll hold till Friday. Funny thing is this is a business trip that I haven't scheduled yet - I'm actually considering coming back a day earlier to pick them up. But that's probably not worth the trouble :D.
