Cowboy Bebop DVD'S NEEDED & why anime costs so damn much

not that it'll help you, but i have the series and have no intention of selling it ever. it's one of the best series and worth every dollar

The new Special Edition coming out later this year if you wanna wait.
I'd just wait for Special Editions too. It's going to be called Cowboy Bebop Remix. It'll be six discs, with the first one coming out this summer. Every episode will be in 5.1 surround sound, and theirs going to be a ton of extra features.

yeah but anime is ass expensive, ill look up on it though, i could live without the last two episodes, so at least i can still dream

Yeah, I'd wait for the remix if you don't have the series already. Otherwise, there's no reason to buy it again since it's an obvious "milking" out as much as possible of the series (like EVA)

I know what you mean. The retail price for each disc is going to be $29.99. So I'm hoping it'll be on sale the first week its out for $20-$25. Which, multiplied by six, would be around $120-150. How much are you willing to spend on all of the Sessions dvd's?

Why don't you wait for the whole set. By than it will will be on one big @$$ dvd set. That is the safe and cheap way of going through it.

I totally agree - but I'm tired of being patient. I've waited for the Eva Platinum since the 1st DVD. Hopefully the box set will be out soon. I can only wonder how long it will take for the new Bebop Box to be released.

Patience pays off, but it blows.

Have you tried ebay and buying the japanesse import, like me and by friends buy naruto. Besides I hate americanizing !!!! They don't tell you every thing that is being said anyways.

Well the first DVD comes out summer of 2005. And the 6th and final dvd of the set should come out in Januray of 2006. I don't really feel liking waiting nearly a year for the complete boxset. And I'm hoping that the first disc will come out with a box anyways.

heh stop americanizing your words then.. heh.. you mean Localization..

Sometimes anime DVDs come with little extras if you buy them separately. The big box set that comes out at the end don't usually have those extra things (at least not from what I've seen). For example, when Hellsing was coming out, some dvds came with action figures and the first dvd came with the box with a blood pack (very cool).

Does anyone knows, if the new Cowboy Bebop Remix will come with a box with the first volume? Sucks when a box is released after every volume comes out and is only available with the whole set.
This was a good read. I had no idea that Cowboy Bebop is getting a re-release. Great news! :D
same here, i've waited this long, doesn't hurt to wait a little longer.

Me too and I was planning on buying the whole series. Now I guess I'll just wait unless I see the entire series for super cheap or something.

You are probably getting HK bootlegs off ebay, not the japanese versions. :D

Sorry i havent responded to any of these posts, i will say though that i will wait for the collectors edition, and in the mean time, i will stay up late on saturdays for some adult swim, listen to my burneds sountracks, and watch the movie into the ground, because thats what got me into the series

They've been saying that Cowboy Bebop Remix will be coming out this summer. But I hope they give us a release date for the first volume soon.

And any good deals on Samurai Champloo anywhere? I was about to pick up both volumes for $25 each at Bestbuy, but then I remembered that Adult Swim will be showing it in May.

Samurai Champloo...if a japanese anime volume is that cheap...then im definetly waiting for the new Cowboy Bebop

Welcome to anime collecting. If you manage to collect anime AND video games, then you'll barely have enough money to venture out your front yard.

I second that. All the Nintendo systems and over 125 anime dvds later....its a damn expensive hobby.

I dont want to collect, just own some good dvds, of my favorite animes, so how much you think the remake of cowboy bebop will be, as an estimate

6 Discs (+ BOX). If its like the Platinum Eva at DeepDiscount DVD it'll be 17.99 a disc. But if its like Ghost in the Shell 2 Special, it'll be 29.99 for the early ones...17.99 for later ones? But it wouldnt be more than 29.99 in any case anyway.

But if you're not a collector and you just want to own it, then get the regular set.

Edit: Someone said Big O for $40, where?

There's a pretty good article on why anime costs so much in the April/May issue of Anime Insider. Basically it's because of licensing, dubbing, authoring, quality control, material costs, and marketing. Then there's manufacturing, royalties. Then there's profit needed to fund the next anime series.

They'll be $17-18 each at Deepdiscountdvd.com. Free shipping.

that makes $108 in all, though i can live without the last few episodes, for i cry when the bebop crew breaks up, why schinichiro why?

I found Session one from this person "liquidating" a bunch of dvds. Cost me 2 bucks ;).

I also found a few cels. 3 put me back 500 bucks!

Exactly, I usually by anime in box sets because its cheaper.

For those of you complaining about anime prices, look at it this way.

The typical anime DVD in Japan comes with a whopping 2 episodes at the absolute rock-bottom price of $50-80

Now try to complain about the prices here.....

Yep. I just started getting HEAVILY into anime collecting this year and I am debating whether I will even bother with much gaming when the next consoles come out. I have such a huge backlog of games as it is and frankly I am enjoying anime more than gaming right now.

On Big O, go to overstock.com

Season 1..$26.02 http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=652696

Season 2.. $28.81 http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=1011355

Overstock almost ALWAYS has the best deals. All the Ranma seasons are $75 and if you buy all seven at once like I did, that saves you $175 bucks compared to almost every other retailer who offers them for $100-$115 each.

Thanx a bundle man, that is such a good deal, im going to mobilize, get a drink, then demobilize, and spend some hard earned credit

Sure thing.

Another great tool for finding lower prices is http://dvdaficionado.com/index.html

You can get a free account there and they have DVD Wish Lists. What I do is this...whenever there is an anime DVD I am interested in, I put in in my Wish List. There is a link that lets you compare prices across these retailers..

Amazon.com
Buy.com
DVDplanet.com
DeepDiscountDVD.com
Overstock.com
Digitaleyes.net
DVDsoon.com
Dvdempire.com

Almost everytime Overstock will beat everyone else, but sometimes the others will have a little better deal. Of course there are other places that sell anime like BestBuy but they are usually much higher. One notable exception is The Sorcerer Hunters Collection though which is only $29.99 at Best Buy, or the temporary prices drops like with GunParade March Tin last month for $23.

I still have LOADS in my Wish List :bouncy:

Anime has actually gone down a ton in price the last couple of years. Why in my day we used to walk through 17 feet of snow while wearing boxes on our feet for shoes just to buy 2 episodes on VHS for $30-35 and we liked it!

I used to buy bootlegs, but rarely do anymore now that you can often find a box set for $40 or so. Big O is definitely not the only one that is cheap. Last week I picked up 52 episodes of Astro Boy for $50. I have piles of box sets I have paid $50 and under for, a lot of them under $40. Here are some of them: Space Pirate Mito, Ushio and Tora, Nadia box sets 1 and 2, AD Police, Kurogane Communication, Steel Angel Kurumi, Sorceror Hunters, Arc the Lad, Nadesico, Gunparade March, Astro Boy, Devil Lady, Brain Powered, Soul Hunter. ADV is particularly good at having cheap box sets. Most of these were in the 35-40 range for the box set and most were bought at either Best Buy or anime conventions. I also got the entire series of Excel Saga for under $50 when BB had that 20% off all anime sale last year.

You still see $100-200 box sets now and then but the number of cheap ones continues to rise. Nowadays the only bootlegs I feel the need to buy are of shows that will likely never come over like Mazinger Z and Metal Armor Dragonar.

Actually more popular titles usually retail a box set for more than $50, especially if the series is more than 26 episodes. It's rare to see a popular, modern series under $50 and if it is it's usually thanks to a good sale. Anymore they have sort of phased the box set out a little as new releases get the collectors box with the 1st volume (sometimes they will release a box set over a year or so later ala Berserk). I agree, the prices have gone down a little but compared to most other DVDs they remain quite high, generally due to liscening and importing costs and just general lack of demand.
