CPU Fan for a Socket A Athlon

Hey everyone,

I have an old Athlon 1800+ CPU. While it's getting a bit ancient, it's plenty fine for what i need it for. But my CPU fan is getting really loud (and probably close to dying altogether). I'm wondering if anyone knows a good solid fan that I can buy that will fit the heatsink for this CPU. From one corner screw to another, across the middle of the heatsink, is about 2 13/16 inches (about 7.2 cm).

Any help would be greatly appreciated; this fan is yelling at me.

If I were you I would take the heatsink and fan out and clean the heatsink and then disconnect the fan and go to an electronics store (frys if you have them) and bring your fan and match it up.

You could also just try to clean the fan..but usually that's a pain when they only cost a few bucks to buy.

I wouldn't order online because if that fan dies out say goodbye to your processor.

but just in case you want to order online anyway:

or if you want the heatsink also:

just find a 70mm fan that will have screws, most likey it screws into the heat sink?

any site can find a replacement, just the screws will be an issue.

One of my machines is a socket A, an Athlon 2400+ and I used to have an awesome Coolermaster squirrel cage until I put the air compressor too close while cleaning it one day. I went to Radio shack and paid $8 for an 70MM case fan and it works just fine, screwed it right into my heatsink. I use it as a file server so it's on 24/7. Been going strong for the last 4 months now. Best buy might also have fans, I think I saw them there recently.
