This thread is dedicated to the stories of Heartless Bastards that have taken advantage of people on Craigslist ... selling games and other items for too much, convincing grandma and grandpa that your old broken PS1 will make little Jimmy's Christmas the best ever ... think of this as the opposite of the More Craigslist stupidity thread ... because ... here ... you ... are the heartless bastard

I nominate anyone who has currently or in the past week sold all their Michael Jackson crap to heartbroken fans ...

However, I will buy Moonwalker for $50 ... ;-p

I JUST saw someone actually SELL a sega genesis with 8 games such as Madden 95 and other sports games for $135. I emailed him and told him he would never sell it. He emailed me back, with the item gone from CL and told me he just did. WTF!?!?!?!?

I bet he just removed his listing to prove a point. You insulted him, so he took it down and told you he sold it.

I agree. Don't fall for it.

I just sold a genesis with 8 sports games to some sucker for $135. This fool emailed me getting all bitter and saying I couldn't sell it either, well I showed them!

must be due to that hard knock life you live in the mean streets of... tucson?

how could you be so heartleeessss

So wait, this is essentially an offshoot of the 'More Craigslist "Stupidity" ' thread? Seriously? Did the OP not see that that thread exists?

As for people being 'heartless bastards' on CL if they sell something for what some of you THINK(in your opinion) is 'zomg overpriced for that useless shit', there may be people out there looking for such items that don't mind paying the price for something they can't find, even if YOU think it is 'overpriced'.

That's why I gotta laugh at some of the stuff people cut/paste into the CL stupidity thread.

Example:

Sega Genesis with 10 games- $50 (Anywhere)

I'm selling a Sega Genesis with the following games: . Call 555-555-1212 for more details.

Of course, a posting like the example above would be immediately cut/pasted and mocked endlessly by all of the resellers in the CL stupidity thread, who want to get massive lots of games and other things for uber cheap so THEY can make the money, which is why you all mock people wanting what they feel is a decent price for their stuff.

I just get a kick out of all of the snide remarks when some of you yourselves pick apart the lots you buy and resell the better stuff for exorbitant prices. Yet you have the gall to mock people for wanting real money for their stuff and not giving it away so you can resell the 'better' parts of it. Get over yourselves.

Man, why do you always post here copping an attitude?
Man, why do you always post here copping an attitude?
Because many of them just buy the stuff for a pittance to resell, while there may have been people out there looking for a cheap system/games to actually PLAY?

Yet when people aren't offering a SNES and 40 games for $10, they get their panties in a bunch and cut/paste it into the 'stupidity' thread as 'look at this idiot wanting $50 for this shit'. What they're really saying is 'if only that moron posted that lot for super cheap, I'd swoop in and buy it so I can resell the better stuff and steal a deal from someone who might want this stuff to use'.

In the end, they come across as hypocrites, since many of the same people post in both the 'finds' and 'stupidity' threads.

Yet I'm sure if they themselves posted something for sale and someone tried lowballing them, they'd be all incredulous about the offer(s) they get.

You didn't answer the question.

God damn it, my ears are burning...I haven't looked at the craigslist stupidity thread since I posted my story of selling the Michael Jackson/We Are the World poster, but I nominate myself, obviously. LOL I'm so evil and such a heartless bastard!!! LOL I wonder wherey you got the idea for this topic from?!? Hey I know I'm a heartless bastard (or at the very least, 'morally and ethically challenged') who is going to burn in hell for all time, so I might as well enjoy the ride!!!

At least you admit it and that's half of the battle.

I like how it's somehow become a crime to want to make money. karkyco's not a heartless bastard because he accepted $100 dollars for a We Are The World poster, that just shows what some people will willingly pay for stuff that interests them. The woman in question first offered $75 and then topped her own offer moments later. Nobody broke her legs to do so. She payed it of her own free will, because it's worth that much to her.

I'll put it in terms that we can understand, as gamers. The current going price on ebay for a sealed copy of Ico is well north of $100. Is it worth that much to the casual gamer? Hell no. But to some of us collectors, it's a desireable price to pay. We would willingly pay that much. Are the sellers hearless bastards? In this case, no. They have an in demand product and a desire to make money. I say good for them, thats enterprising spirit at it's finest.

The Craigslist Stupidity thread is for the mocking of people who want well over market value for their common games, like Madden 2001 and such. They deserve mocking for asking such a stupidly high amount. It's two completly different realms.

Would I pay $100 for Ico? fuck no. I hated that game and I couldn't wait to sell it. But as you said it's up to what people want to pay, what they think is fair. Many of us who comment on the mockery going on in the CL stupidity thread would probably see nothing wrong with paying $50 for a lot of fairly common Genesis titles, since we would see it as paying the usual $2-3 per game that most stores selling prior gen stuff charge each.

However, many of the people in the CL thread are resellers looking for stuff for a pittance with 'rare' stuff in the lot so they can recoup their initial investment, while we just see it as stuff we might want to....ya know...PLAY.

Whatever people are willing to go is the 'market price' for them. So who are the people in that thread to determine what is 'fair' and what isn't?

Exactly my point.
Whatever people are willing to go is the 'market price' for them. So who are the people in that thread to determine what is 'fair' and what isn't?
There are two specific situations in which it specifically unnerves me.

1: People post the same shit at least once a week, for months and months on end. If no ones buying it, you're apparently asking too much. I've seen this lot at least 10 times on my Craigslist - that's stupidity.

2: When people put needs to go today" or something dumb like that, and put an outrageous price. Here is a "Must Sell!" and they're accepting best offer. I know the Craigslist market in my area - I know what stuff sells for, b/c I walk away with a lot for less than people's asking b/c there's not a market in my area. That NES isn't worth more than $50 in this market unless it has some "uber-rare" game.

Lastly - it IS stupid to ask what you would expect to get on eBay for something on Craigslist. eBay takes WORK. You have to take some semblance of a decent picture, you have to pack it, ship it, have an eBay account, have a Paypal account, and know the rules so you don't break them or get screwed b/c of them.

That's a lot more than posting a one sentence listing with no details in "text-speak".

Selling on ebay isn't as easy as it looks. First, you will lose some money because of fees, then, you have to wait for people to bid, and then you have to hope and pray the person doesn't pull a quicky with paypal and charge you back. On craigslist, you post, wait for a buyer, and sell it. People go on craigslist for bargains. Common games may be worthless but usually those are the games everybody wants (ie- mario, sonic, kirby, etc. etc.), thus making them good sellers
