Crazy April Fools Oblivion DLC sale!: All DLC 1/2 Off, Horse Armor Doubled

Cantaloup

CAGiversary!
Ok, this is a bit strange. It sounds like an April Fool's joke, and it is. But it's also real -- I just checked the Xbox Live Marketplace myself. Those wacky folks at Bethesda are offering all Oblivion DLC for half price this week... except for the horse armor DLC, which is now twice the price.

In any case, here are the current prices (for XBL):

Shivering Isles: 1200 points
Knights of the Nine: 400 points
Spell Tomes: 40 points
Mehrune's Razor: 125 points
Horse Armor: 400 points
everything else: 75 points

Hahahahaha, Horse Armor 2x the price! I feel bad for the poor sap who wanted to buy it this week. Good deal though, the 75 point things are fun additions.

At least they have a sense of humor about it.

Shivering Isles is a lot of gaming for $15 (less if you've got some cheap MS points).

you just know some fool is gonna buy that horse armor at that price.....I'm sure bethesda knows it too which makes this funny and sad at the same time.....
What's not on the GOTY Edition?
GOTY edition, as I understand it, has a second disc which is the same as the sold-separately Shivering Isles disc. That disc has Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. All the others are DLC only I think.
is knights of the nine worth $5?
It's an interesting little story arch that elongates the playing experience. For 5 dollars I'd say YMMV depending on how much you liked Oblivion.

I've put something like 150 hours in between Oblivion and Shivering Isles. Just wondering how much game is there. And if it's varied at all from the main game. The fact that Shivering Isles had such a different aesthetic made me pick that one up. Also don't know if I need to go back. I still haven't picked up Fallout 3 yet.... but then again bucks? How long is it?

HAHA Double the price... who are these guys! Damn guess im waiting to buy that

I haven't actually beat it but there isn't much other than questing and characters. There are some sweet weapons at the end (From what I've heard) but it's no Shivering Isles.

This is hilarious. I just booted up and saw this. I need to see which DLC that I need to get still and jump on it. While it's an April Fool's Gag, the price on the half-off DLC is awesome. I guess I can wait for horse armor. ;-)

Speaking specifically on the Knights of Nine, you get a fair amount of quests, around 9 or 10 I think, and some nice items. While I liked the story, unfortunately you'll mostly be exploring in caves and forts, so it doesn't have the visual appeal of Shivering Isle.

From what I understand the other expansions are only one quest each, but all give you at least one new location to explore.
Is the Horse Armor worth 400 or wait for a possible price drop?
Well it doubled today in price. So, obviously don't buy it.

Ack...I wanna buy a couple of the 75 point ones, but I'm not gonna be near my Xbox till next week. Can you download them to a memory card and transfer them to the hard drive from there? Anyone?

You can buy Marketplace items online at xbox.com; you pay for them upfront and then the next time you boot up it'll start downloading automatically. You can queue up demos and trailers this way too.

Can't you buy them through XBox.com? They'll queue up and download the next time you turn on your 360.

You can do it via Xbox.com

EDIT: Damn, double ninjad. Not paying attention.

I thought that all the dlc came with the goty edition but I was clearly wrong. I'll have to pick some of these up. An Oblivion pro needs to get in here and let us know what the best add ons are to get.

All purchases made on your account are tied to your account so, yes, you could do that.

Edit: Best way would be to buy them online (http://marketplace.xbox.com) and queue them up for download. Next time you're on an Xbox 360 with your account, they'll download. Keep in mind they'll be tied to your account and that console, so only do it for YOUR console, unless you feel like using your once-per-year DRM License re-issuance.

Pro? Not quite, but I'm a tad seasoned with the DLC. The mages spire one is pretty damn sweet, it saves you lots of many if you're an Alchemist as you have your own magic alchemy garden that grows rare stuff. You can upgrade it to get some sweet spell making, weapon enchanting and Alchemy station swag.

The Fighters Stronghold is decent. You can hire guards and personal fighter partners (IIRC) but overall not nearly as beneficial as the wizards spire.

Don't know much about the others but the must buy is the horse armor, especially at this awesome price.
Are there any DLCs that are not already included in the GOTY edition?
Somebody JUST asked this on the first page.
The Fighters Stronghold is decent.
I got my Fighter's Stronghold for free, and that's as much as anyone should have to pay for it.

Really, its just a free castle. I like it because I can store stuff there and owning such a huge castle compensates for my small penis.

Haven't even finish the main campaign in GotY edition, but I want this other shit, too!

I remember when I dl'd the Fighters' and Mehrune's for free way before I even bought the disc! That was a good day.
Haven't even finish the main campaign in GotY edition, but I want this other shit, too!
Yeah, I am nowhere even close to the end of the main quest, and I have around 90-100 hours  I think I am def going to grab the Mages Spire, I love the Alchemy/Spell-making/Enchanting.
I also already have the Fighter's Stronghold. I'm hoping I didn't pay for that one for whatever reason...
I didn't want to shit all over it but like I said, it's not nearly as good as the Wizards spire. It was also cool that you could take your henchmen with you on tougher quests.

I put 80 hours in across the main game, Knights of the Nine and The Shivering Isles.

Got all but one achievement--and it was one that required playing through Shivering Isles twice (or knowing about it and saving a bit before a decision point). So I was at 1220/1250. Oh well.

Haven't bothered with the 75 point ones etc. as I was pretty tired of the game by the time I finished all that.

MY PS3 version AM CRY :( although I have Kot9 and SI from GOTY.. i actually want the other DLC but it will never happen. Bethesda hates PS3 :(

These are some awesome deals. The new locations are all beautiful and flesh out the world a little more.
Knights of the Nine is great if you like exploring the countrside and the items are cool too, though it's mostly for good characters rather than evil ones.

Hmm. So buy the GOTY and then you dont need to worry about the KOT9 or SI expansions...and just get all the little DLC besides horse armor.

This is a good deal thanks for posting it.
At least they got the point that horse armor sucks.
I thought the whole thing was that a lot of people bought it, thus proving that people will buy one small, random item they didn't put in the game.

is anyone else getting a download error?
i just did the fighter's stronghold as that's the only one I don't have aside from the spelltomes, which is worthless IMHO since money becomes meaningless in this game if you play long enough and spell costs are trivial at that point.

i keep getting an error that says try again later.

Is any of this DLC not available on the GOTY edition?

edit: nevermind sounds like Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles are the only things on the GOTY edition

Saw this on IGN and thought it was just a April fools joke. Ended up getting both Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. Still thinking about the others though..

I just went home to download a bunch of the add-ons. The thief one, the vile lair and the tomes all worked fine, but when I tried to DL the wizard's tower or the orrerery, I got a "can't download" message. WTF?

Just keep trying, I guess. The points have already been deducted.
