Crazy unexpected Crysis performance

CAGiversary!
Well I was playing Crysis and I decided I would crank everything up to Very High in DX10 to see what kind of slideshow it would be, the system is as follows.

e8400 overclocked to 3.28ghz (didnt want to risk the heat until i get something other than stock cooler)
evga 8800gs stock speeds
ocz platinum 2gb
gigabyte ga-ep35-ds3l mobo
vista ultimate 32bit

on very high i got an average of 10fps, and after changeing the shader quality to high i get a very playable 25 average without much loss in quality, love the motion blur!

i thought crysis was crippling even the best computers, 10 fps is not bad if you count that the whole system was about $600 when i built it. i must be misinformed or something i guess :D

-shrugs-

Even the demo I was getting 25-30 rates with a video card worse than yours using a mix of high and very high.

Its when you play on Very High everything on 1900+xXXXX+ resolutions with max AA, filtering etc. that it rapes your comp.

How much anti aliasing were you using?

You running at 800x600? ;)

I can do 1280x800 at high details with playable 25 - 30fps even during heated action. Any higher resolution would be hard to play for me with high details.

I had mine set to very high using the DX9 hacks on an 8800 GT overclocked to 700/1750/2000 MHz for GPU/shader/memory, and it was pretty smooth throughout, hovering in the high 20's and 30's at 1680x1050. It tanked at the end part though, and I had to turn it down. :)

High is very playable though, so I stick to that.

I get a 30-45 on very high with 2x AA and V-Sync on @ 1680x1050.

Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz
4 GB OCZ memory
2x 8800GT's @660Mhz
Asus P5N-E nForce 650i

I was hovering around 25-30 before I overclocked my CPU. This game is very CPU-bound. A higher clock speed Dual Core would get even better framerates than my Quad. All together my system was pretty inexpensive. I was happy with my performance.

I never dropped below 30 fps in the demo, using a mixture of very high to high settings at 1680x1050. I know I had vsync on and 2x AA. I can't remember if the game had AF (I definitely had it to at least 3x, I always use AF when possible).

AMD X2 BE-2400 (2.3GHz), Asus HD 3850, 4GB (3.5GB usable) DDR2-800 memory. Yeah, I was pretty shocked too at how much of a difference there was between a 3850 and my old X850XT.
