Hello,

I have a Zen Micro, and I plug it into the USB but my 360 won't detect it. I read over the instructions on XBOX.com
To stream music from a portable audio player to your console:
  1. Connect a USB cable (not provided) between the device and a controller port on your console.
  2. Configure the device to play through the USB port.
  3. Select Media, Music, Portable Device.
  4. Select the music or playlist you want to listen to.
Ok so I tried this except for #2. My player doesnt have an option. But XBOX.com shows it as a supported mp3 player. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you try downloading the "Optional IPod support" file from the Marketplace? It's not an IPod, but it still might help.

I use my Zen Micro all the time through the 360 without having downloaded the IPOD support. Do you even get a charge to the Micro when you hook it up to the 360 ? If not, it may just be that you need a new cable.

I have the same problem with mine. I suspected it was the firmware - I do not have the PlaysForSure firmware loaded on mine. Although I can't confirm because I never bothered to follow up on it.

What do you mean by "charge"? When I plug it in the battery meter changes to a connected icon. That's it. It doesnt light up or anything. I tried starting the 360 before the player and vise versa, unplugged cables plugged back in, nothing. I know that the cable works, I guess I'll check for firmware updates.

When you plug it into your PC do you have to use proprietary Creative software to update the songs on it? I know on my Nomad Zen Xtra, Windows wouldn't read it natively, I had to install drivers and use special Creative software that looked like Windows Explorer but it was specifically for Creative players. Since Windows wouldn't recognize it without drivers neither could the 360, but they recently updated it with new firmware that adds 'Plays for sure' functionality so you don't need those special drivers anymore for Windows and the 360 reads it as well.

It wont recognize it as far as a drive. I have to open it up with the Zen Micro software that I got. I'll check for firmware updates when I get home from work, I'm hoping that will work.

You need to update your firmware so that it enables PlaysForSure support on the player. I had to do the same thing for my Zen Touch.

That might be the case. I have had the play for sure firmware installed since I bought my micro as I had Yahoo Music service. Hope it works out for you.

Linkin - I confirmed you need the PlaysForSure firmware. After upgrading mine, the 360 properly detected it - it listed it as Creative Zen Micro, not just removable media device, which is pretty sweet.

The only thing is that after the update you HAVE to use Windows Media Player 10 to sync your Zen. I'm used to using the Creative browser which would allow me to edit track tags on the fly. Here, it seems like once they are in the MP3 player you're stuck with the tags. However it seems like it has better tag support, so I haven't really had to edit anything yet anyway. For instance all my podcasts are showing up as such, when before they were Unknown.

So upgrade and have fun with it. And thanks for all the 360 news!
