I'm looking to apply for a credit card, but I'm holding off until someone offers a good incentive. Anyone have any recommendations for a card with a good signup bonus or a worthwhile rewards system? Thanks!

I got an AMEX starwood card the beginning of the year and it's the best rewards card I've had. You start with 10,000 points redeemable for hotel stays or flights. Hotel stays start at 3,000 points so you theoretically get 3 stays right away. Comes in handy for 1-2 day trips with the GF; or if you travel a lot.

www.best-card.com has many many good current offers.

You say you're holding off, but do you actually have a good credit history that would get you approved? The ones with good benefits and incentives usually require a score of 700 or better with a decent credit history.

I'm 19, looking for my first card. From what you say, it seems like the good rewards won't be happening for a while.

Exactly...

A lot of people look at incentives and freebies and forget that those benefits come with a high interest rate usually. Sure you can get great freebies and a low rate but not this early.

Don't worry about the points/benefits- try and find a card with a low rate, low fees, and good member services.

Ah, credit cards its a love/hate thing. If your a first timer You might get screwed.

Sometimes its better to get a simple credit card with a low rate and Moderate sum of money, Easier to pay off and usually all those rewards programs cost either an annual or monthly fee

Tip: sometimes your bank offers a credit card along with a bank card, If you open a student account they give you a Minimum of no more than 200 to 700 dollars if you do decide to use the bank's credit card ASK ABOUT THE RATES! ask if you could get the percentage lowered, they'll offer you a base rate and then after a while raise it but you can get it lowered again just by asking the credit card company, it wont be a permanant thing but as long as your current with your payments it shouldnt be a hassle to you.

Good and bad bank credit cards: I have two bank accounts, Wells Fargo and Bank of america. My Experience with wells fargo's Credit program is best described as a pain the asshole, They trick you with pointless and random charges for security and protection and savings programs and whatnot bullshit that raises your bill, and also charge you your interest without warning at inconveint times ( like they see your low in funds and BAM here comes your next payment) I have now racked up a hefty debt on this card but after not using it for three months and being current on the payments im probably gonna cancel it after i finish payments Wells fargo = Bad

Although there is one positive thing to owning a credit card with Wells fargo, they offer a program with 10,000 dollars Accidental injury/death insurance, hotel accomidation discounts and best of all "Purchasers Protection - Which Extends the warranty on any item you buy by 1 year more and even protects against theft and damage" for only 5 bucks a year...Weird? or Good? Its probably the only good thing about the card.

I opened an account at Bank of america as a safety and savings account, Always be prepared when funking around with Credit card companies or your likely to get Shafted, and owe lots and lots of money.
Bank of america offers a nice simple card at good credit, you can add on extras and rewards for a small price and maybe protection but it also cost money.

Amazon.com credit card, a simple Student Visa card that not only saves you 30 dollars credit on any order for your first time use but its really easy to pay off, no monthly charges and security rates and a nice low rate, 300 dollar limit for the student card and its very.

Part of that is a Visa thing, where they'll you get free car rental insurance, free travel insurance when you buy your ticket on the card and they also extend the warranty, may vary from bank to bank but it sounds like Wells Fargo is just trying to make some extra money on hotel discounts which you probably won't use too much unless you go on vacation every month or something.

Also, in my experience, don't get Capital One, while I did have a perfect payment history and took care of my credit, I never had my credit limit increased, I had my APR double, and they wouldn't lower it, and they also charge a $3 a month monthly fee just for having their card.

Like the previous poster said, get a student card, built a credit history of a year or more and with a job history you'll likely be able to get whatever reward card you want, though it seems all rewards card have a interest rate of around 18%. Though I was lucky and found the Bank of America WorldPoints one which had a relatively low apr of 9.99% while my Amazon and Sony one has the 18%.

I am also in the market for a new card. I've had a citi card for a few years and they keep cutting my rewards. i never carry a balance and don't want a monthly fee. I've got a 740+ credit score and a good credit history. Thanks.
