Culdcept Saga - Out Now!

It's kind of sad when I can barely get one game in before i have to sleep for work the next day (start a match after dinner, say at around 9-10pm). This game is so not for Achievement whores! But I love it.

Also, is there no way to play with a friend against the CPU? like 2 v 2 (humans v CPU)?

Hm, I think we may have some different strategies while playing. I play yellow only, complete offense. My strategy is to just gain control of yellow squares and deny territory to the other player. Even if I have to move off of a yellow square into a non-yellow square, I'll do it. I do become a -little- selective if I'm sitting on a high-level land, but that's about it. My deck is just filled with strong invaders, offense items, and movement/damage spells. I figure if I can control most of the territory, and get move around the board as many times as possible, the AI will eventually just crack.

Usually the situation will arise in which I will control a good chunk of the board and the AI will have some ridiculously low score (>1500) while I'm just a couple thousand from winning. It's at this point that I'll just level up a bunch of lands to reach the goal quickly right before getting to the castle again.

I'm about halfway through story mode and the last time I lost was in "Venice," but I just really kept getting shorthanded in that particular match.

I really wish this game received more attention from the English market to earn the the developer's interest, but I don't think that will happen. Europe didn't even get the game, so I'm happy we at least got this version. I'd drop a good chunk of points if a new card set were to be released on the marketplace. I think the best I can hope for at this point is the developer's giving us the free content Japan has (it's really not that much, I'm sure it wouldn't take much to translate), and/or the DS version coming to America in who-knows how many years.

I've put at least 30 hours into the game and I have just over 100 achievement points. I'd still play just as much even if there were no achievements. Some of them are absolutely insane to get without cheating (10 online wins in a row).

You can play the match you described in Versus mode. Just set the game to an alliance match and put you and your friend on the same team.

You bastard. You probably cast Freeze Cyclone and follow it up with Insect Swarm like that little b*&@# I tore up last night.

Actually, now that I look back on it I would kind of hate this game if that b*&@# had beat me using a ridiculously powerful card combnation that I didn't even know existed.

I just started playing this, but I can already tell it will be incredibly deep. I am really looking forward to unlocking more cards and coming up with some cool combos.

I just bought Culdcept Saga as well and after losing the 1st story mission :( and winning my first VS game against a Virtual player (and winning the 1st place cards for my deck) I can tell I'm going to love it. I like how even if you lose you at least get a few cards to make your deck stronger for next time.

Hopefully interest in the game is building all over the western part of the world.

I probably have the worst strategy but it's worked well for me. I use one of the two Aspidochelone cards I own and drop it into the highest traffic blue area that I can find, then max its level as soon as possible. I'll hold on to the other one and use it to take lands the enemy has leveled up and exchange it for a card more appropriate to that land later.

The stats for the card is 30/40 ( During battle gains ST/HP+(current round number) ). So far it's nearly always a certain battle victory when they take it on mid game. An Aspidochelone can pretty much hold its own against most cards without items. Now, if I could just get a set of 4 of these.

BTW, I am fully addicted to this game.

That card is a beast! I use it often myself :)

So not online then I assume?

I have yet to play online, but I can see gettin pissed at people using one cheap strategy over and over again. Same thing happened with Phantom Dust, but the best part with that was you could tweak your deck right after a loss (which took maybe 5-10 minutes) and try to break their strategy. With this, I don't want the match to drag on forever just so I can lose and go for a rematch.

Speaking of which, where the fuck is a new Phantom Dust?...

Haha, don't believe I own that first card, no, but I'll keep an eye open for it ;)

I actually haven't played an online match yet, I want to beat the story mode first and get enough cards to be more than a nuisance in an online game. I'm positive once I play against actual people rather than this game's AI I will be changing my strategy very quickly, but for single player it works just fine.
Thanks for the tip on the vs. play - I guess I wasn't aware you could get new cards that way (to use in the campaign)... I'm not really used to the whole card game thing. I tried level 4 four times now and have come in 2nd 3 times (and 3rd once).

Are you saying you had bad luck in only getting 2 of those special cards in your starter deck, or in all the time you've played? Because I've gone through several games now (the initial level, twice on the second one, and 4 times on the third) getting all sorts of cards but nothing like that. The last time I was trying to focus on two land types and using stonger cards like Ares. I was doing pretty good until I landed on a 2300+ spot and lost. But I'll do the vs. thing for a bit first and get some better stuff before going back to the campaign.
I got some bad luck obtaining those cards after winning or losing a battle. I probably spent over 20 hours trying to obtain new cards by using the cheap trick (that's not including single player or campaign missions) and I only manage to get one of each. I'm not sure what the odds are getting those cards - they are ultra rare or it's either due to my bad luck. The worst part I only completed maybe 70-80% off the card collection using this trick. I was like fuck that. There is no way I'm spending another 20 more hours farming for cards for some measly 20 achievement points or get more of those broken cards.

OK, so I played about 5 10-round vs games and got myself some better cards. That, combined with focusing my deck on red/yellow and knowing a bit more about how the game works resulted in a relatively easy victory on my 5th attempt at Colisseum III. Yay - 5 achievement points! Man, this game is stingy with the cheesemints . Then I beat Ticumon (the wierd little Maromaru like dude) very easily and beat one of the 4 enemies (the fire one) right afterwards without a loss. So, apparently that one 3 player match is just harder than the rest (and takes longer due to the 2 computer players). Even with my better deck that was by far the most challenging one so far. But after that the games were a bit easier and WAY faster. I tried another guy after the fire dude and lost but that was due to very bad luck (hit a 1920 spot and lost after trying to use the flying puffer and having it be a draw - if I had lost I would have wiped his spot out).

Once you progress through the game two-player only games altogether disappear, so enjoy them while you can. You might have a bit of trouble with a red/yellow combo later on as they're not complimentary colors but it definitely won't be impossible to make a good deck. As long as you don't use green. I really hate green cards in this game.

Oh, I had already planned on making a different deck to take on the blue and green enemies. So which colors are complimentary and how does that work? I haven't seen any correlation between any particular colors. Or does it have to do with allies you use later? I just chose red/yellow because I had some pretty cool cards of those types.

Red/green and blue/yellow.

There are quite a few powerful cards where it helps to have both. Some examples where it helps me:

Magma Armor: ST+number of occupied fire lands ×10/HP+number of occupied green lands ×10

Brontides: Aid HP+10 to red or green creatures

Hell Pyron: Aid ST+10 to red and green creatures

^^^ Ah, OK. I haven't seen any of those yet. Well, I'll stick with what I have for now until I get something like that. I can always switch it around.

I got my next game from gamefly and got this instead of GRID, grrrr. Actually I'm liking it a lot and I used to play Magic when I had a couple of friends in high school that played it during our lunch period. I can see the depth in this as I lost my first game and then won the second after I understood what to do and saw the resulting card reward for both 1st place and 2nd. I grew up with both monopoly and magic lol so this seems like a win for me.

I'm still playing this and it is approaching being probably my most-played 360 game of all (overtaking Katamari soon I'm sure - note that I haven't played Oblivion yet).

I'm trying to get the achievements and the Cepter parts. I'm quite enjoying the different challenges required to get those. It is too bad they didn't set these up as a "Challenge" menu or something though. You have to look at a FAQ or something to figure out what parts are available and how to get them. For example - win a 2 vs 1 game, beat a dragon with a Powder Eater, etc. They should have put these as options under Vs. and then let you customize as much as the restrictions would allow (in one you can only use "N" cards, for example, or they have certain magic thresholds that you must meet).

I still can't get some of the achievement-based ones (which are just a subset of the different Cepter parts challenges) because I don't have the right cards yet. I'm still missing one dragon, for example. I'll probably try the bandit one next, though I only have ONE bandit card, so that will be pretty hit-or-miss (will need to get him down, boost his ST, and hope someone lands on him and fights him at the right time).

I'm still looking for an online game at some point, though that is tough with the family about (late late night is good for me).

io -

What'll also help with the Bandit challenge is to get him down and then boost his attack stat using permanent spells or creature effects. Once you've boosted him to his max power (which is 100, I believe), use him to invade an enemy territory. You'll have to equip him with some weapon to get your total attack power high enough to earn the Achievement, but this method leaves less up to chance.

Good luck! Once I get my 360 back from the MS repair station, we should play a couple of games online.

Oh yeah, I always forget about the invading option - that would make it much easier. You can use Fay to boost ST by 20. I just need to get him to 100-110 and then equip an item when attacking. Then if I just get him near someone that should work. Really, it is probably one of the easier ones (Ogre Lord is pretty easy too).

I was going to try the Red Cap one also, but then I looked and I only have 2 Goblins. WTF? Those are crappy common cards .

There's a spell card that'll put one or two goblins in your hand if you sacrifice another, and the spell goes back into your hand or deck (I can't remember). But that was key in obtaining the Red Cap item.

My 360's back, so shoot me a PM or Friend Request (my Gamertag should be on the left) if you want to get in a game this weekend.

Not sure I have that spell. Anyway, I sent you a FR. I may not have time this weekend though.

I can't take how the AI is supposed to win the first time on the board and then the second time you have a better chance. Also feel the dice rolls should be more random! Glad I rented this.

I played through the campaign last year and still have the game, just not sure if I can bring myself to start boosting for the achievements, which will take FOREVER.
