current amazon refund policy for defective items?

CAGiversary!
Does Amazon still give a 100% refund for defective items? Their terms seem to have gotten ambiguous and dont mention 100% refunds except for things that are unopened or were Amazon's fault.

I got a video card that has screwed up HDMI along with questionable behavior (like its going to die soon) and would like to return it and get another kind, if theres a restocking fee for open defective items then that would have a big impact on what I can afford as a replacement.

Once it's opened it's generally just a replacement for the item, and not a refund, and it's been like this for awhile now. I can't tell from your issue though whether it's a problem with the card itself, or that it came with defective parts, or both, so you will have to be a little more specific about that.

Ive returned defective things before for a full refund (including shipping cost, non defective items wanted me to pay shipping), but I think the wording used to be clearer that defective stuff got a full refund, maybe I am being paranoid.

When I start a return it doesnt mention anywhere how much money I will be getting back, just "standard refund."

Not sure about video cards. But most of the time it has an option on what you want(refund, replacement) when sending it back. Standard refund means that you'll get the whole amount back.

As for a restocking fee, unless you flat out return for no reason other than just to get a refund, they usually don't charge for items like that.
