Just thought I'd give a heads up out there to any CAGers that frequent Starbucks, or just want some free stuff for the next couple weeks - there's a lot of changes coming to and already begun within stores, just thought I'd share a few from an insider's perspective:
Vivanno Drinks - these are the new, highly touted healthy beverages that we're offering. They're being pushed incredibly hard by management and upper management, so much so that we're basically throwing them in peoples faces to try. It takes a hell of a long time to make (labor is going to give us 4 minutes built into scheduling per drink) but you'll be able to score a free Vivanno beverage of your choice from 2-4PM every Tuesday until 8/12/2008 if you have a registered Starbucks card with a balance on it. Even though there's a specific timeslot for the promotion, you can still come in anytime during the day and it will still be free - the idea behind this is to 'surprise and delight' customers outside of this timeframe and work on building repeat customers (i'm not sure if the system will automatically do it or if it's baristas discretion, so YMMV until I can clarify?)Also, anyone that can provide proof of gym membership via Gym card or personal trainer card will also be eligible to partake in the promotion.
There's 2 flavors - Orange Mango Banana and Banana Chocolate - essentially you get 3 scoops of protein powder (has Whey protein in it) - a full banana, either mango juice /milk or mocha/milk depending on your choice, and it's only available in a grande size (costs 4.00 even in FLA)
New Foods - Starting September 3rd, we'll be offering a sort of oatmeal mix for sale. I'm not sure on specifics yet, but we're going to be weeding out badly selling products, consolidating, and introducing replacements for them. Oatmeal is one of them.
'New' Drinks - We'll be doing a big Hot Chocolate promotion soon, and it'll only last about a month or so. We'll be offering Hazelnut and Caramel Hot Chocolates for sale (although you can order these at any time, we'll still be promoting them similar to how Peppermint Hot Chocolates are available year round but for some reason everyone thinks it's a seasonal thing during the winter months.)
As far as sandwiches go - any stores that don't already sell them will most likely get them rolled out by September 31st. These include parfaits, wraps, and sandwiches in general. The cool part about this for me at least, is that they're delivered fresh daily so whatever's not eaten by the end of the night will become dinner for me
- and, I've heard really great things about the quality of these sandwiches from customers in areas that do have them.
Breakfast sandwiches were discontinued due to the pungent smell of the ingredients overtaking the aroma of the coffee, but they will be brought back eventually, just with less pungent aromas.
This is all I can remember for now - please keep all 'I hate Starbucks and their $31 lattes, overpriced big corporate d-bags haha you just posted your first quarterly loss ever' etc chatter away from here: just trying to help some CAG'ers score some possibly free stuff and inform them on upcoming changes. If the post becomes popular enough, I'll try to keep it updated with as current as information becomes available.
If you visit enough, I'd definitely recommend getting and registering a Starbucks Card. By registering, you become part of the new Rewards program, that - among other things - could save you a lot of money. You can put anywhere from $5.00 to $500.00 on each card, and you can register multiple cards under one account at Starbucks.com The rewards include:
- A free tall beverage with the purchase of 1lb. of coffee
- 2 Hours of Free Wireless Connectivity through AT&T/T-Mobile per day. (Yes, I know Panera/McDonalds/Wendy's/everyone offers free wifi, but something is better than nothing.)
- Free milk modifiers (soy, breve/half-half) I actually like this, because after doing the math, you could save 180+ dollars a year if you got 1 Soy based beverage a day. It's a reasonable estimate, but even half of that nets you over 85 bucks savings a year.
- Free coffee refills (Iced Coffee included)
- The occasional free beverage coupon will be mailed to you allowing you to purchase a beverage free of charge.
- Free Vivanno beverage 2-4PM every Tuesday from now until August 12th.
Additionally, work is being done to implement a phase 2 Rewards program that will be rolled out later on in the year. Don't have any details on it, but more free or discounted items are never a bad thing.
