I'm pretty much just poling interest at this point, but I'm wonder who'd be interested in custom controller painting and what prices you'd be willing to pay.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd like to make a list of people who are interested in what color and type of paint. This way, I'll have a good estimate of how much paint I should buy and what colors to get.
I haven't set a real price. Shipping would depend on where you live and how fast a turn around you wanted. My ZIP is 55121. Use that to get a rough figure and then multiply by two.
Then the paint depends on what kind you want. Spray paint layers on top of the controller and actually changes the size (marginally) and texture. On the other hand, it's cheaper and there are more colors available.
Vinyl dye costs about twice as much, but it actually changes the color of the plastic and makes the color more scratch resistant. However, it comes in a very limited number of colors.
I'd probably say $15 for a single color spray paint and $20 for vinyl dye + two-way shipping. You can also pay for a new controller and I'll pick it up myself, that'll save on shipping. (I can be paid in games too, see tradelist.)
Confirmed list- I'll fill in colors as I get requests/know what I have available from the stores near me.
Please PM me with the color you want and the type of paint. This list isn't binding or anything, I just want to keep an idea of who wants what. When I get enough interest I'll PM everyone and we can talk set prices.
I'd be interested for sure. I'm not to sure about pricing. Factoring in the $50 for a controller, how much do you think you would sell them for?
I wasn't sold on the yellow and red one until RedvsBlue said Kill Bill. Fantastic. What does the surface feel like? If I closed my eyes, would I feel like I was holding a stock controller, or does the paint have texture?
the black one is sweet though i wouldnt buy another controller just because its black
I'd be willing do your own controller, just ship it to me and give me money for the paint, return shipping and a bit of my time.
Thats kinda what the point of this thread is. I thought about $20 (not counting shipping). That'd be about $8 for paint and then $12 for my time. Which, isn't really great, but its kinda fun to do. Something like the KillBill controller would be a bit more as its three colors with a clear coat and its a pain in the ass to do detail with spraypaint on a curved surface.
How much for the KB controller?!?
I want it. I need it. I must have it.
$15 shipped if we supply the controller or something?? I could order a controller from the retail site and ship it still sealed up.. that controller is badass and a half.
I'd give you extra money if you could crack open the controller and make the LED light glow red instead of green.
:lol: I'm glad you like. :mrgreen:
If you supplied the controller and paid for shipping both ways on the side... Its about $4 a can for spray paint, unless its vinyl dye, then I think its like $8...(not a wide selection of vinyl colors, either =( ) Then it takes a full day for the yellow to dry. takes about 10 minutes to line up and wrap the controller for the black lines. then its an hour fo it to dry and then I have to mix the 'blood' and then let that dry for about 3-4 hours. Then the clear coat takes about half an hour to do, but a full WEEK to set solid... And then theres putting it back together and making sure everything works and nothing sticks.
The KBs are a lot of work the more I think about it... :bomb: It'd probably be $30-40. Or a game off my trade list of sufficient value. ;)
But again, this is just kinda speculation. Single colors are, comparatively much easier. Not counting shipping, I'd say maybe as low as $15.
Those look pretty sweet. I guarantee you would have as many controller requests as you had time for if you set up a website / let the blogs know about it.
If you can do it, I'll take one made purely from 30 year old rat wool smothered in south eastern zimbabway goat milk and hugged by 30 different female pornstars soaked in baby oil and chocolate.
Not quite that custom.
at least I tried... the one thing I would love is for some company to start making replacement parts for the buttons and d-pad...
Because the d-pad sucks?
I'd pay around $15 including shipping for a different colored controller. More if you could change the led in the controller next to the guide button to blue.
Because the d-pad sucks?
mainly that and i just want it to look different. I play mostly fighters and that d-pad sucks large ass balls of justice for fighters.
do you take them apart to paint them? you should do the lights mod too, and it would have to be cheaper then the black shell, otherwise whats the point? i'd be interested though...
At first, I just thought the people who played fighters were just bitchy and that the d-pad wasn't that bad. Then I actually played a fighter on it... it's garbage. They need one of those fighting pads like ASCII made for the PS2 or Xbox.
Back on topic...
How hard would it be to paint it black and put the red Gears of War logo on it as well? Because that would make a wicked gift for my brother.
Using spray paint, the gear enlarged across the corner and just on the top would be less than easy., but doable. For the full logo, it'd be quite difficult to do with spray paint. I'd probably have to hand paint it. I'd probably paint it black, paint on the logo by hand and then lay on a bit more black to give the red that worn look.
Could I? Yes. Would it be worth my time and effort? Probably not. That stuff is all built by machines by a company looking for profit. I'm just doing it for fun for other CAGs for a bit of money. Additionally, they don't put them together for you.
Those look pretty sweet. I guarantee you would have as many controller requests as you had time for if you set up a website / let the blogs know about it.
Again, its not something I want to spend my life doing. I just want to make a couple of nice controllers for CAGs.
So it looses the original X360 texture? How does it play, does the controller become slippery as your hands sweat, reason I ask is that the controller currently has texture and it grips to your hands.
