Customers think I WORK at the store, WTF?!?!?
I used to work for Hill's Dept Stores and WalMart at one time or another and my one co-worker would disappear(@ WM) for 45-60 mins at a clip easily. I went looking for him a couple nights, but it was like he was like Houdini.

As for me, I've found that people think I work for Kmart or WalMart, as I've been asked questions at both stores. I usually just say 'I don't work here', but if it's some bumbling fuckin idiot about to buy their 10 year old a copy of Debbie Does Dallas The Game, I tell them about the ESRB system and all of that shit.

I only do this because I don't see anyone else trying to educate stupid consumers and also so that the games I may wanna play don't get censored because 10 year old stupid lil Johnnys' mom got him Manhunt and he went off and killed his lil sister while imitating the game.

Stupid fuckin consumers/parents should be sterilized imo, so they can't breed more fuckin idiots.
Man its been a long time since I have heard mention of Hills anywhere, we used to have that store here, back in the 80's. I can still remember their slogan "Hills is where the toys are".

I like giving advice on video games because I can usually trump whatever the employee of the store has to say, and the customers believe me more because I do not work there, plus I tell only the truth. But as far as people asking me if I work there if I am in a grocery store or something, I tell them off, I really hate grocery store shoppers, most of the time they are yelling or just generally being rude anyways, I would never be mean to the little old lady asking. I also like telling people that they do not need to buy the extra store warranty on video game systems made by Nintendo because Nintendo gives a free 1 year warranty on all their hardware! If its a different system I refer them to the manufacturers warranty, you would be surprised how easy parents say yes to any warranty offered with the product as soon as the employee says it covers it if your kid breaks it. Also I usually offer money saving tips on buying games, parents like this because 99% of parents think video games are a waste of money and are too expensive. No I do not refer them to this site.
Yeah. I get this all the time. This one time I went to staples because I had to get a TI-89 calculator from them. I went into the calculator aisle and a lot of people were waiting there. This one woman screamed "FINALLY" when I went to the aisle. She started ranting about how she was waiting a long time for them to find her daughter a particular calculator. I told her I don't work there and went to get my calculator and right behind it was the calculator she needed, so I gave that to her.
So basically, that shopper was too lazy to check the shelves herself for the item she needed? Typical lazy ass/oblivious shopper, who wants to be waited on hand and foot.

Or at least that's the way it seems.
Whats the point of being a dick about it when someone mistakes you for an employee? Would it be too much to ask for you to politely say "Sorry i don't work here"?

Numerous times i've been mistaken for an employee somewhere and if its an older person needing help finding something i am more than happy to help them. It's unbelievable how people are so fucking self centered.
This used to happen to me all the time. I usually responded "no" but if I was in a bad mood I would just ignore them. One time, I was in a really bad mood at target and was asked the question and I responded with fuck you. I was fed up with the ignorance but immediately felt bad afterwards.

It has stopped happening now that i have kids but about a month ago, I got the question at costco while pushing a full shopping cart dressed in shorts. WTF?! I remembered the guy from target and just told the lady that I didn't work there. Some people are just ignorant!!

It was the opposite for me. When I worked retail, I'd have the gay-ass shirt on and everything, and people'd be like "hey, do you work here?" Which actually is nice cause then I don't gotta do shhyyyt.
Why do you always mentions the person's race and why are they always black or asian?
He already explained this.

I hate when this happens. I'll usually be as nice as possible. If you're like the one huffy lady I've dealt with that actually yelled at me about whatever she needed, and also stayed pissy at me after informing her that I'm not an employee, though? Yeah, I'll be a total cunt after that. fuck you lady.

It's been like two weeks since I haven't been bothered by stupid customers. Although on saturday night when i was at walmart, some indian customers were staring at me and giving me this look on their face thinking "is that an employee?!?!" and then I give them a look back pretty much saying "you go ahead and ask and see what I say!"... this of course was when I was wearing a dark green shirt with a black jacket.
Why do you always mentions the person's race and why are they always black or asian?
I was wondering this too. All I see in the posts are "Indian", "Black", "Asian".

Are we playing that game now? I'll play too!

If I had a dollar anytime a Caucasian customer (when I worked retail) asked if I spoke Chinese, without asking me what nationality I was. Even if I could speak Chinese, would we then go about our entire conversation in Mandarin or Cantonese? Also another dollar would be nice for every time the same customers would speak ultra slow, because apparently I can't speak English.

That is entirely more annoying than being mistaken for working at a said place by some moron.

I was at a target today and saw an older lady ask a young guy if he worked there. He just pointed to his Petco name badge and kept on walking. The guy was wearing a blue shirt. She then walked by a guy wearing a red shirt with a name badge that had the Target logo on it. She looked like she was going to ask him for help but then she paused and went on her way. I guess the red shirt and badge weren't enough to identify him as an employee in her mind. Clueless!!

if it's bothering you so much and they're mistaking you for a store employee because you're wearing your work clothes then how about not going shopping right before/after work?

Well, let's consider the options.

A.) Said store happens to be close to the individual's place of work, or is on the way home from work. Individual stops at store on the way home to 1)save time and 2)save GAS, which is quite expensive these days.

B.) Person runs home, changes, then runs out again. Not only does this require extra trips (and extra GAS), but also wastes time the person could spend with family or playing the games we here at this site love so much.

Now, if you were a responsible adult on a limited income, which would you choose?
:dunce:

I was about to say this, but Callandor beat me to it.

Going to the store to pick up a new release dvd and going home to watch it is a nice way to end a long day. Being BOTHERED for help after you spent HOURS helping out other people during your day.

I used to get that a lot when I used to work for Gamestop. I would walk into Bestbuy and the like and get bugged pretty bad.

Though, the one that made me finally lose it is when............

I WAS IN BEST BUY AND THE fucking MANAGER ASKED ME TO DO SOMETHING!!!!

I just stared at him and told him to fuck off. He just looked at me. Then told me he would write me up. I lost it then. I was screaming at him like a madman. He just looked at me. Then another lady came by and told him he was a fucking idiot as well.

I was pretty pissed but started laughing driving home.

Might have overreacted just a tad.. but that guy was a real idiot...

You over-reacted. Honestly I would have told him that I don't work at the store OR that he isn't a good manager if he didn't know who works for him...then I would walk off and browse some of the music cd's or dvd's. By telling him to fuck off, employee or not, you are considered causing a disturbance and by all rights LP CAN ask you to leave the store. btw which store was this? Fairlakes? Sterling?

I had someone ask me questions about the Wii at a Target and I had more general product knowledge than the guy working in electronics.

It'd be funy if you bought Best Buys Uniform and then you went to "work" and act as a new employee.i wonder what would happen?

Improvanywhere. Google it. Maybe it was called Improv Anywhere. I forget if there was a space in there.

ban from store? i dunno.

The one that threw me off the most was when I was wearing a RED polo and happened to walk into walmart where they usually wear blue polos and got asked if I worked there when there was two people who did about an aisle down. Now that is funny if you ask me. Red and Khaki is target plus many other retailers style while blue is walmart yet I still got asked. I might as well wear a target name tag and see how often I got asked for help XD...

I was in bestbuy with my blue polo on and some guy is like "I need help finding a movie." So I said "hold on one second sir." I then proceeded to bring the guy to my friend and said "Steve, help this man find a movie." Then I walked away.

Hehe the funny thing is it's all true except the blue polo part.

OP, this happens to me all the time because I forget to take my lanyard with my security badge for work off when I go into stores on my lunch break.

Once I was asked at BB if I could ring someone up, so I asked for their credit card and the lady started to pull it out. I said to her "You need to be more careful lady, I don't even work here." She yells fuck you at me and runs out of the store.

Too funny.

Sometimes people ask me where stuff is at Target and I send them to the wrong part of the store because like the OP, I don't fucking wear red, or kahki's, so why the fuck would I be a target employee!!
