I was gonna buy a new one at wal mart and put my old one in the box and return it. will wal mart open the box, take off the syraphome and insepct it? like look at the serial number and stuff? or will they just take it cuzz i have the reciept?

People that post this crap should be insta-ip-banned. Its rediculous. What sort of human trash tries/attempts/inquires about/does something like this?

Its A-Holes like you that give gaming and gamers a bad name. Just freakin' pony up the money and buy a new one or let Sony Fix it. EB takes broken systems for trade in. They give like 30-50 for one so just do that instead of being a jack ass.
^^Yea right. they wont put you jail for that. they have no proof.
No proof?

Your IP is logged, which can be traced back to your county. That narrows it down to a few Wal-Marts. A simple call about returns on PS2 systems would narrow it down, and would probably yeild your name, phone number, and home address.

No proof?

if it's just not reading discs, it's probably a DRE, they've been fixing them for free for a while now, you just have to pay to get it shipped there and they fix everything else

as you can tell, people here get offended by dishonesty, you shouldn't bring up topics like this one

ummm yea, have fun doing all that.

and i'm only 14 i dont have money like that man. i just want my damn ps2 fixed, why are you ass holes so damn mean?

not hissies, just this is not the forum to discuss dishonest/unethical practices. If you feel the need to do something like that, why post it on a message board looking for approval? Just take it somewhere else or keep it in PM's, not in the main board areas.

If it's a DRE problem then simply call the service rep number, they'll put you through a Diagnostic song an dance then give you a repair code to get it fixed, then you mail it off to them with a coverletter explaining the problem and the repaire code. In about a week or two you get it back fixed.

Look up Unethical and dishonest and let usknow what you come up with as to why you shouldn't do that crap. Ask your parents to get it fixed or go get a job somewhere. Shit, its not that damn hard to do.

I don't think Walmart would let you return anything because you're too young. If you get your parents to buy a new PS2 with their credit card and then get them to return the broken one and they somehow are able to, it will still leave a very easy trail for Walmart to come after them after someone notices the switch. You wouldn't wish that on your parents, would you?

What will really happen is that the switch will fail ... you're not the first one to think of this scheme. It's probably been going on since the first pong machine and stores now have safeguards against it (such as the individual serial numbers).

I don't know about yours, but my Wal-Mart makes a copy of your drivers license on returns like this to make it easier to catch people. I wouldn't try it if I were you, because you would surely get caught unless you switched the serial numbers off teh back too.

yea now that i think about it its pretty dumb. whatever. sorry guys. anyone have the number to call sony? and will they fix it cuzz i already openened my ps2, voiding the warranty

They look at the serial number on every PS2. It's the actual UPC code for every PS2 system.....so it won't work. You can't switch it out without having the same UPC on the reciept. Do you think you are the first person to think about doing this? They know about people like you and that's why every PS2 has the serial number as the UPC code when you purchase it. It's like a VIN (vehicle Identification Number) on a car........so you will either have to send it to Sony to be fixed, or trade it in as a "broken" system at eb or somewhere that takes it. They won't put you in Jail, but you will look like a complete dumbass standing there in the store with a different serial number on your PS2 than is on the reciept...They will prolly tell you how stupid you are and embarass you in the store in front of everyone.
^^Yea right. they wont put you jail for that. they have no proof.
dude they have the UPC numbers of the games they sell in their store. once you take the system back they will look at the number and see that your trying to rip off the store. They have every righ to call the police and they should

I just called my local Wal Mart and they said they would switch it out no problem.....You don't even need a box...just take it to the customer service counter and tell them you need another PS2 because this one is broke. They will be more than glad to do it..Just go up there and take it back..you don't need a reciept or anything..They will gladly exchange it....If they give you any trouble, just tell them you heard on the internet that it was ok to do it....

Do you think if I bring them my broken toaster they'll let me switch it for a new PS2 as well? Or maybe I should just buy a new PS2 and pull the ole switcheroo and return the toaster in the PS2 box?

The Walmart here has it fixed so that when they check you out your PlayStation 2 serial number is on the receipt.

YES!!! This sounds like a new way to have fun at Wal Mart....Lets try it and see what we can get!! I will report back to you guys and let you know all the cool stuff I exchanged!!! Whooooo Hoooooo!!

Only if it's a Black & Decker toaster oven. Sony and B&D have an exchange agreement in place.

Whats wrong with what the kid wants to do?Sony takes advantages of customers.Think they would really care about customers?

If it can work go ahead and do it I think its a good idea...

Yes!!!! Everybody let's take our PS2's to wal Mart and exchange them for stuff. It will be great fun and we can get a spot in the Guinness book of world records for "The most PS2's taken back to Wal Mart within a 2 week period". It will be great fun and we can tell all our friends.......

My bank charges me monthly fees on my checking account. Its so obvious that they don't care about me or their other customers. I guess I'm now justified in printing counterfeit money and exchanging it at the bank. Anybody else have any grievances?

Don't attack me. We have the same stance on the issue, but your sarcastic replies are not helping the situation.

Can someone lock this now?

Those free from sin cast the first stone. You all surprise me. To the topic creator: Follow your heart.

I don't know if this has been said or not as I don't feel like reading all the posts, but the PS2 box has a hole in it where the seriel number of the unit shows through. When you purchase an item such as a PS2, the store scans the seriel number. (I know for a fact that CC did when I bought mine, never bought a system from Walmart, but they should be scanning in the seriel number) Should you try to replace the new one with the old one and return it, when they scan it in, they will not match and they will likely not allow a return.

The idea that you can't point out someone doing something wrong unless you don't do anything wrong is stupid. The only stones that should be cast would be those that go straight into your mouth, breaking all your teeth and leaving you spitting blood and crying for perpetuating such a lame idea.
