OK, so my apologies if this is a reposted topic, I did search a few times.

I have all the game systems, so no "fanboy" of one vs another with me.

I absolutely LOVE mash-ups with puzzles, leveling up, and huge boss battles. The DMC/GoW genre games are awesome. I enjoyed Ninja Blade (overlooked) and a few others as well.

For those with experience with both games (not just ONE) what are your thoughts so far??

I am a few hours into Dante, and it is AWESOME. Absolute gold. The best part for me is it really brings to life the Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri. I like that it is more "Adult Oriented". It has more of a dark and brooding feeling to me, where as darksiders kind of "pops" with brightness.

I noticed a lot of similarities right off the bat, but Darksiders does not feel as refined.

So---- My question(s) : What are your impressions between the two?

And - What other games in the genre would you recommend that follow this style almost to a "T"? (I know we have Devil May Cry, God Of War 1/2/3, Ninja Blade, Dante's Inferno, Darksiders)

Both were solid, Dante's held my attention all the way through to the end (then again, it only took me two nights to beat).

As far as other games like that, if you like the DMC style of games, I would totally recommend Bayonetta. Very few games have me playing through them multiple times to better my ranks/score, but I had that game beat about a week after it came out, and I still am playing it.

I've tried both and I'm not a fan of either one. I was so turned off by Darksiders I stopped playing and traded it in. Dante's Inferno I still have for now. However, I would second Bayonetta. Bayonetta is the only game I've played through of the three. Maybe its the speed of Bayonetta that I like.

Darksiders definitely.

Dante is a slog of a game with really poor game design choices and a horrid story. Enemies aren't difficult by any means but one regular enemy can take nearly 50 seconds to kill. It's just artificial difficulty to give the game length and it's stupidly repetitive. The novelty of the graphics wears thin once you get past Gluttony when everything becomes very same-y.

And then there are maybe six different enemies over the entire game length, apart from the bosses. Some have about four skin variations but goddamn it, Final Fight had more variety.

01. Humans - 3 skin variations
02. Minotaurs - 4 skin variations
03. Penis-Ladies - no variation
04. Dual-headed club guys - no variation
05. Flying Batrats - no variation
06. Fat guys - no variation
07. Evil priest - no variation

That's all you'll face over a 12 hour game. Again and again and again. Mark my words. Once make it past gluttony, the game becomes a chore.

The main difference between Darksiders and Dante is that Darksiders starts off very poorly and becomes a pretty great game by the end. Dante starts off pretty decently and ends up being a bore by the end.

I've been a fan of Joe Madureira's art since I was a kid. So any technical shortcomings were overshadowed by how incredible the gamed looked. I often pop in the game just to ride around on Ruin and enjoy the landscapes.

I agree with WrexManor. Darksiders starts off slow, but ends with a huge bang. Where as Dantes Inferno lost me somewhere towards the middle. Just didn't care what happened next.

I'd also like to point out that the original Dante's Inferno poem had a similar effect on people as The Exorcist as it scared the shit out of them into the hands of the Church. I know that every person who saw The Exorcist back in the day went home and said a prayer after seeing the movie. The Dante's Infero poem had a similar effect on people back then.

However, the game thematically failed on that. It's inherently a bastardization of the text and terror-filling tone of the original text. I wanted to be scared and grossed out - but mainly I was bored.

And oh!

Did anyone else facepalm right at the beginning when Dante gets stabbed in the back? I groaned out loud.

Like here is this guy. You've controlled him and massacred nearly fifteen or more people with no problem. Then he's all chill, walking around, LOOKING for trouble, only to suddenly have this bad guy laughably tip toe behind this medieval badass and stab him in the back?

It was stupid. I think the Dante character might be the most unobservant personality in next-generation gaming. I especially loved when he got back home and looked past the dead body on the floor only for the camera to go, "Hey. WAIT A MINUTE!", and zoom back in to it. It was B-movie bad.

Guys. Is the title worth playing? Sure. But don't anyone pay more than $19.99 for Dante.

All in all, Darksiders was a much more fulfilling gameplay experience than Dante's Inferno. The idea of four-player co-op dungeon puzzles excites the hell out of me for Darksiders 2.

ive just bought darksiders and ive got to admit im very impressed with my purchase, got a mix of allsorts of gameplay which im more then happy to go along with :)

Agreed. It's impossible to be afraid in this game. They took a timid little man used to pulling on the hem of Virgil's toga half the time and transformed him into a crusader that KILLS DEATH ITSELF within the first five minutes of the game. WTF.

Darksiders for sure! I liked DI more than most people but Darksiders was just awesome.

Right now I can't really reccommend either.

Darksiders started out alright, but it became a chore to play (fuck that "Redirect the beams" tedious bullshit). I'm at the part where you have to collect the 7 sword pieces and I can't even force myself to play through it; I'm thinking about trading it in.

Dante's Inferno just started out as really fucking annoying. It might be because I chose to play it on Hellish difficulty to start with, but I figured I wouldn't want to play through it again. Currently I'm in the middle of a mission with 1 hit left in my health bar, and no health fountains to be found.

GoW III ftw.

I was not very impressed with Dante's Inferno. Mostly because I though the character of Dante was not developed at all. He was just an above average crusader. Kind of Lame, compared to One of the 4 Horsemen
