It was a three way tie between the Nintendo DS, the lousy giveaway T-shirt selection at every booth, and not finding CheapyD at the show. Did anyone actually find him? And where are the shirts? I thought we'd be able to purchase them after the show? :booty:

Haha, I was there, but nobody found me.
Hindsight being 20-20, I should have just set a time and place for us to meetup.
That would have made a hell of a lot more sense.
Anyway, I will get the shirts on sale soon.

I will admit that the shirt selection was lousy, especially since it seemed that all of the exhibitors seemed to go with LARGE as opposed to extra large, and me being somewhat of a big guy, got lots of shirts I can't wear. The biggest shirt disappointment was after winning a 25 to Life "tournament", the XL Basketball jersey I got was the equivilant of a medium-large. But not to complain too much, I do like my Phantom shirt, I BELIEVE!

Phantom shirt?! Man, that's already chock full of ironic value, and it's only going to go up once their company implodes.
Would you believe that the phantom is bigger than an Xbox?

I believe!
god forbid, how could anything b bigger than an xbox?

What was dissapointing about the DS?

if you looked at it after the PSP you'd probably be dissapointed.

I wasnt so much dissapoint as I was glad that it was GBA compatible.

watching videos, ive seen what the psp can do....and i dont care. I own a nice Pocket PC, so movies, music and pretty much evrything else i can do already. I buy Gameboys for...GAMES.

"But Mr. Shakspear, the psp had a strong showing of current classics in wow inducing 3d!"

True dat...but i still dont care. I want fun, and playing games i could just play at home does nothing for me. DS showed me originality, not one-up manship.

Actually, I saw the DS before the PSP. I was looking at the DS from an aesthetic standpoint as well as gameplay whereas the PSP was really just there for looks. You really couldn't do much with the PSP except touch it and watch what the screen did. As for the DS, I'm not so much disappointed with its capabilities as I am with its lack of improvement. It doesn't feel like a huge progression forward (kinda like the Sega Saturn.)Yes, a touch pad is neat. Yes, dual screens are cool. But is that really an advancement? No. It looks and plays like a slightly wider GBA SP with two screens.

There were many comparisons made between the DS and the Virtual Boy, a radically different take on gaming with underwhelming excitement surrounding it. I'd have to agree. I didn't see one person walk out of the DS booth expressing their overwhelming excitement for it. It was more like cautious skeptisism. But who knows. Anything is possible.

Truthfully the only thing that would make the DS a looser is if too many people already have toomany handhelds and Nintendo and the other developers that made a showing of support for it decided to back out on that commitment.

The PSP will do fine on it's on as well. I cant see people ignoring it atleast not for long. the potential for storng portable games just as deep as home games is growing quickly and either of the new portables will give you something fun to do on the go.

....now as for the Gizmondo? couldnt give a rats ass.

Nintendo has said over and over the DS "isnt the next Gameboy" but rather an expansion of the previous technology. It's like When they went from the GB to the GBcolor, you could still play the same games but also a few new ones that did new things. They're still working on the next real generation but I think they decided to take these steps because their portable market is whats keeping them afloat right now.

That may be true but the differences between the GB and the GBC were not as major. It was the same functionality but with color. The unit still looked the same. Even the change from GBA to GBA/SP followed that method. A slight enhancement (well maybe not that slight) but still the same functionality.

The DS represents a major fundamental change in handheld gaming by adding new methods of interaction. This is the belief Nintendo was pushing at the show. Yet Nintendo also wants us not to think that this is "the next gameboy." Anyone else see the contradiction here?

well every gameboy they release is "the next" gameboy... but they dont want you to feel like you're wasting your cash on a GBAsp when this one comes out. They need both systems to remain viable untill they break out the next GC or even this supposed "next" gameboy, what ever it may be. In their eye's it's not a HUGE step just a small one before the REAL step up.
