Dashboard update: XBox games coming to XBox Live
No achievements confirmed...

http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2007/11/14/will-xbox-originals-have-achievements.aspx

Well fuck that then... I am just going to download Psychonauts and that should be enough space on my 20 GB HDD to be able to support that.
He said no added functionality to games. IE no online play for older games such as Halo. So, how is this better than Virtual Console now?

It's Virtual Console pricing under a different console. No modifications, no bonuses, etc. And here people thought Microsoft would change that.

Aaron Greenberg is an idiot if he thinks Halo is the only easy to find original Xbox game, and he is out of his damn mind if he even considered $20 for some of these games. I would love for him to prove his last response right and listen to all the people pissed at no achievements and/or the 1200 point cost.

Here's a dumb question.
Is it possible that they may offer DLC for some of these games down the line?

I mean think about it.
Microsoft LOVES raping us. (Hell all these companies do, but let's think of Microsoft as the rapist with the biggest dick.. ouch!). Is it quite possible that..they will charge us 1200 points for these games, then say..offer expansions for 500-800+ points down the line? i.e. Online play in Halo. Additional maps for Halo. ETC. I could see this happening. Not expecting it, but I could def see it.

I haven't read any articles (lazy, FTW). I understand no new content/achievements, but for games that were originally Live enabled, will they remain Live?

I doubt they'd do this, seeing as how they are merely putting these out to make a quick buck. Basically, the less amount of work they have to do to these games means more profit for them. That's also why I did not expect them to add anything to these titles. No big deal, those who want these games will buy them; those that don't won't.

While I will not be buying any of these games, I don't get the pricing structure complaints...the wii vc is $10 for a n64 game...I would imagine a gamecube game would cost more...yes $15 is a lot to pay for a game that is b/c and can be had for less then $15, but it really isn't that far out of line with other pricing structures setup by other hardware makers.

I think MS is missing a golden opportunity to undercut Nintendo here. (Did I already type this or did I dream it? Hmmm.)

They could charge 800 MS points (10 bucks) and say something like, "Here's what your ten dollars gets you with the Virtual Console." and show, I dunno, someone spinning out on a banana peel in Mario Kart 64 (great game, I know, I'm not the one making the commercial). Then, they'd say something like, "This is what your ten dollars gets you on Xbox Live!" and show Master Chief running fools over with a Ghost and then humping a face. I dunno. I miss Sega's abusive commercials.

without a doubt they are missing out on a big opportunity. Cheaper price, added functions, and achievment points would be awsome. Too bad.

No word yet on file size. I'm not sure what they could cut out or compress, but Xbox games ran anywhere from 2GBs-8.5GBs.

I really dunno if I'll buy any of these. I guess we'll have to wait and see what kind of releases we end up getting...and how often they are released.

I'm guessing part of the dashboard update, they will have their own section for this? Or are they going to be downloaded and store where our arcade games are.. ?

There's a few Xbox games I'm considering getting. We'll see. I'm not totally against this but I am disappointed in no achievements. Will we at least get an icon on our gamercard?! Clearly it's not important.. but c'mon! At least let us have the damn icon that said we played it,

Besides the fact that you can generally get some of these games for cheaper, I think the pricing is fair. I mean on the VC NES games are $5..and N64 games run you $10. Since Xbox WAS a generation after N64..$15 makes sense. If the Wii was capable of having GCN games downloaded..I'd say $15 would be fair too. Just like the VC, you're just getting the game and that's it.

Overall, I hope we can get some GOOD games. And games that are kinda rare OR cost more then $15.

Also.. I'm wondering if there will be set releases for these games? Once a week? Once every 2 weeks? Or ..whenever?

This may not be for everyone.. But I welcome it. It potentially can be good.

Well, if you believe the Xbox PR troopers, Nintendo's Wii and VC are not even in the same league in terms of competition. Besides, Master Chief humping a face is so 2002...or whenever that game came out.

Guys, these games are not for us. Its for casual gamers who didn't know about these games when they originally came out. I hope these games have demos so people can try before they buy.

some ran in the 100's of MBs... especially launch titles

Supposedly XBLA will be it's own blade now (Why damnit!?). So, that's 3 marketplace boards now? (Marketplace, Video, and XBLA)

As for old Virtual Console games, going on places like eBay to get games is more expensive than the Virtual Console. But some games you can't get. Here, since it's last generation, and there are used copies on the shelf, you can find them much cheaper and you get to play them online or off. I guess what I'm saying is...

"too soon"

Crimson Skies? Oh yes...well I can get it cheaper anyway @ GS/EB/GC/GR used...

Well, if they had some enhancements for Halo (ie. Multiplayer like they did to the PC version), I'm over that one.
No achievements?

That's it. Microsoft is finished.
They've been doomed ever since they lost the ability to love.
They've been doomed ever since they lost the ability to love.
So, since they started then?

Anyhow, someone aptly said earlier that these downloadable games are not intended for us cags. I heartily agree. I'm moving on and waiting for the stuff I will blow my cash on.
i will only get halo of these games, and only if there is at least online multiplayer, and/or some achievements.
Way to read the thread
I don't think that's going to be a problem, because who the fuck is going to buy Fusion Frenzy to begin with?
True, but it just proves the point that not only is it a bad deal since all these games can be bought used for under $15 but some of them can even be bought new for under $15.
You can get 360 points for less though. Hell, I can get 1600 pts for $10 (1/2 price) easily.
yes but that isn't the price that is given by Microsoft. There is NO WAY Microsoft can use that same justification. They can only say 1200 MS points = $15 and since Fuzion Frenzy is MSRP $9.99 you are paying $5 more to get a game that has documented issues. That like any other arcade game if your system dies it's most likely going to be gone.

I'm confused, can't you re-download arcade games with your gamertag over live?

Care to share your source?
I'm confused, can't you re-download arcade games with your gamertag over live?
No one seems to know. Originally at least you could only run downloaded content when connected online, or else it would revert to a demo (if played on a different 360). There have been some claims that that's changed, but other claims that it hasn't.

I really want a straight answer about that, because I won't buy downloadable content unless I can play it on any 360 I want, with at worst a 1-time connection to the net to reauthenticate it or redownload it or whatever. But then I want it tied to the NEW console (or my gamertag, or however they do it).

I know for a fact that at least through Spring of this year you could NOT transfer content to a new system.

That's my ONLY real issue with the system. If not for that, I would definitely buy a game if it's something I want that can't be found as a retail copy.

I don't think $15 is totally outrageous *IF* the games can be transfered to new hardware.

EDIT: Also I keep seeing people post these problems with the games. They may not realize that those are problems with the games on disc too. The emulation isn't quite perfect. They're not unique problems to the downloadable version (which is just the disc version done as a download).
no achievements?
15$?
limited harddrive space?

failed lol
Ditto, especially when you can get many of these games on disc for less than $10 or cheaper when GS/EB runs their B2G1 promos. Not sure I even get this move but like someone said earlier in the post, people will buy them for some reason...:bomb:
How big, in file size, are these going to be?
ign's 3 red lights podcast had aaron greenburg on, he said that halo was 2.3 gb. He said some will be bigger, and some will be smaller.

Maybe, but I doubt it. You could say the same thing about the PS3's PSX downloads. They're all $5.99, except for SOTN (which was either a cash grab by Konami, or a justified price since it was 800 points on XBL...surely both, I suppose).

The thing is, SCEA has done fuck-all with it. 13 games in 12 months (compared to 150+ VC titles, and compared with 130+ PSX titles in the JPN PSN store), with only two of those 13 being released since June of this year. It was an opportunity to show off the crummy pricing of the VC, but it's moot since they've fucked it up royally.

I suspect that the XBC will be the same way: sparsely updated and often with lackluster titles. Tao Feng FTL.
Tao Feng FTL.
 That did make an interesting rental, though!!

I'd love to play Kung Fu Chaos, but I don't want to pay $15. Damn.
ign's 3 red lights podcast had aaron greenburg on, he said that halo was 2.3 gb. He said some will be bigger, and some will be smaller.
Yikes. I mean that was a LAUNCH game. 2.3GB eats up space FAST on the 20GB drive (which is really only 13GB...)
If they release the older xbox 1 games it would be great if they implemented live play.
Well...they have online play if they did originally. If they didn't, it would be a massive undertaking to add it, and at that point would make more sense to recode it as a 360 game and rerelease it with some upgrades.

The ONLY reason I would buy a game is if they included some online play. Specifically with HALO. If they put LIVE play in with that....SOLD. Of course, who knows...maybe they will patch it eventually for a price ;)
