Love the board, trying return to help I've received already ;)

DDR is really fun and can be a great hobby, but it can really get darn expensive. You can forget about the older games dropping in price, and good pads don't run cheap. I modded one of my original soft pads, but the left sensor is beginning to slip. I love DDR but don't have the cash to support at the moment  . This is a very good price for such a quality pad though.

I have a ton of DDR pads, and I will say this, buy the replacement plan on the pad if you get it from Best Buy. Red Octane's warranty sucks (they make you ship the pad back at your expense, which will cost around $20 for the foam pad) and these pads break fairly easily.

Also, their customer service is a pain in the ass to deal with. I bought one of their metal pads off their website and it was dead on arrival. They made me ship it back at my expense after a couple weeks of giving me the runaround, then I had to wait two months for a replacement. By the time I actually had a working pad, my warranty was expired. Not the best $250 I ever spent.

Just for everyone's reference... This pad IS NOT compatible with the Xbox 360. I have two of these and they do not have the proprietary components for 360 compatibility.

NOTE: Boy do I wish these worked with the Xbox 360...

This pad is not well-constructed. While RO claims better materials, that means jack shit. The pad gives out outrageously soon because RO likes a rush job on these things.

Avoid at all costs. There are cheaper, better-made knockoffs out there that can go for a little over $30. Internet-only though. And avoid eBay.

If you are really serious about DDR seriously consider the Cobalt Flux pads.

Almost daily playing for more than a year and the pads still work great.

Lucky. Typically any foam-insert knockoff is great as long as you use a foam insert like that of the OFFICIAL Ignitions.

If you are really serious about DDR seriously consider the Cobalt Flux pads.

Actually, if you can manage to get your dance pad to stay absolutely still, even if it means getting the "non-slip" pad bundled with the games to be taped down on plywood, you can do just as well as anybody else.

Heh, my one foam pad that still works has about 20 pieces of masking tape on it holding it together.

I agree that the best way to get a permanent pad is to buy one of the cheap, non-foam pads and then tape it down to a heavy piece of wood. It won't have that arcade feel since the panels won't have any give to them, but it will do the trick without costing you $250-300 for a metal pad.

Stay away from the ignition, mine won't register on the UP arrow anymore, bad quality. You really are better off either getting a cheap pad + wood, or cobalt flux. I hardly play DDR, but have a flux and can say it's great quality.

Stick with the cheapo 10$ pads, they will probably last you just as long as the ignition, if not longer.

When I first started playing DDR last year I had an ignition pad. The comments about shoddy workmanship are absolutely right on. My first pad wouldn't hook up to my PC (but would play on PS2 just fine). I exchanged it and the second pad had like miscut or misshaped plastic over one of the arrows. Then of course as you get better and start playing 6-8 footers you really can tear up the foam insert. I ended up modding a softpad and it still works perfectly, though I do miss the added cushion of the ignition pad!

I'd personally only go for this if the best buy replacement plan was a good deal, like 5 bux. You can be sure that the pad will run down or break in enough time to use it, and with the replacement plan you'll get another! So is the red octane pad worth ~$35 to you? For just a few bucks more you can make a really nice softpad mod with nonslip foam bottom and a plastic cover over the pad...

I have never tried that so I cannot speak to it. I have read from many people that it will extend their life, but since it is foam between 2 plastic contacts, it will eventually die. I have gone through 1 $10 pad, 6 $50's from Ebay, and then the CF's. The CF's still work great.

I agree completely with the people in this thread. The pads are absolute garbage and always have been. If you're going to buy garbage buy $10 el cheapo pads. You won't be getting a pseudo-arcade style experience either way.

If you can find one of the older deluxe pads from Konami those are by far my favorite.

Old IGN article
I picked up one of these off ebay for 30.00 a couple of months ago. PS only though.

C'mon, the Ignition's aren't *that* bad. It's not a Cobalt Flux but it's definitely the best soft pad you can buy (it even lasted longer than the metal Afterburner pad I had). But you can forget about getting the product replacement plan on these though...Best Buy stopped offering them for dance pads a long time ago.

If you're serious about DDR though, you'll want to save yourself the hassle and get a Cobalt Flux with arcade mod or a Blue Shark. Yeah, they cost more but you won't have to worry about replacing them ever. My CF is over 3 years old and I've never had a single problem with it. Just gotta clean the contacts on it every six months or so.
