DDR hitting the Wii in 07

It's not a true DDR, Mario was a true DDR. This is some bastard stepchild where you have to move your hands like you are in some gay club.

This is why I'm convinced it'll be at least another year before 3rd parties start to get it. Whatever use they devise for the Wiimote in a DDR game will be stupid.

don't know where you get your facts, but it will be true DDR with new moves involved. it uses both hands with wii mote and nunchuk and the feet on a ddr pad.

below is a quote from ign:

With Wii controllers in hand, players will make use of the classic dance mat in conjunction with new hand control, adding different upper-body actions to the original DDR gameplay. In an extremely smart move, Konami has made use of the GameCube port on the Wii, allowing for four dance mats, four Wii-mote/nunchuk sets, and the ability to use the original Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix pads that hardcore GCN owners may already own.

sounds awesome to me... problem is I have a ps2 ddr mat and not one for the cube....

Awesome, I was wondering if they were going to put out new mats or use the GC ones. Works for me since I have two.

4 player DDR would be awesome.

I don't know if it would work but you could try a PS2 to GCN adapter.

I was able to use a PSX/N64 wheel on Gamecube using one of those

thanks... I actually remembered that I bought a ps2 to gamecuber adapter a while back but stored it somewhere in a closet. I'll have to try out the mario ddr game on gamecube with that and see if it works. :)

just what the world needs, more ddr.

where's my virtual drumset game?! 1/1!?!
Mario DDR is a true DDR using only the pad. This is a bastard child of that using your hands.
Mario DDR could be aced by someone like me who had never played DDR before. That's the point I was making. Throwing in arm movements is just a nice evolution, just like I'm hoping Guitar Hero Wii will incorporate motion.

Sounds great, but Konami has to answer 2 very important questions:

1. How are the hand movements going to work with the fast paced foot movements without a causing a wave of DDR gamers with broken legs? Remember the wiimote and nunchuck have this wire between them.

2. How are they going to keep the wiimote from registering movement and giving us a bad score while we are jumping all around the place?
Mario DDR is a true DDR using only the pad. This is a bastard child of that using your hands.
Gosh, people whine when things are contastly the same and they whine when they change things. This looks really fun to me. I'll be terrible at it, but I'll have fun.

Question though, why did you feel it necessary to post the same comment twice in the same thread?

I just read this today. I'm optimistic, but a tad worried about this one.

I don't think the Wiimote + Nunchuk mode will play that great, but methinks it'll be a minor mode, as the Eyetoy was for the PS2 versions.

EDIT: Okay, I didn't mean as *minor* as the Eyetoy mode was, but just another *flavor* to choose from. As long as you can play the DDR songs with mats only, I'm good.

I was worried about the difficulty level on a Wii version, especially since it mentioned being targeted at entire families. But after watching this, I'm not as worried. (Look at the difficulty level. ;) ) I already hated that song, and that band makes it worse! >_<

As long as they don't fill the soundtrack with US garbage, and make it as tough as a regular DDR version, I'll be happy.

Hopefully they will AT LEAST have a mode to not have to use the Wiimote for this so thats its not required. Also a second request would be good music. Not any of the same Mario like music in Mario Mix. I was a little disappointed as the beat wasn't as good as in the regular DDR's, but still fun. Hopefully this will be better.

This is a good way to keep getting my friends into playing video games. This is wanna those games we love to play, but its kinda creepy when people start gathering to watch our boobs bounce, when playing at the arcades in public.

Bleh I'd rather see Nintendo license 3DDX from NRG to make DDR look like the shit it is dancewise. D-Tech(3DDX 2nd Mix) is better for fun then PIU and DDR easily. Too bad arcade owners would rather spend over 10K for a POS like DDR Supernova over higher then a little over $6K for D-Tech.

Yea we're so far in the life of DDR that it should be easy to squeeze out a decent soundtrack. If they let us download too we'll be fine. I think it'll be a given that it'll include standard DDR and full body Wii mode in it. Instead of the nunchuk combo though, they should have went with a pair of remotes. Watching the video does make it look more practical than it sounds in writing. On the faster step heavy songs, your arms will naturally be moving around anyway. I imagine it wouldnt be so hard to include the hand notes in way to where it felt natural, like part of your "dance", Maybe needing a slight bit more emphasis in movement but I can see this working if you like to really get into it. I think it'll give it some extra life actually, give veteran players something extra to toy with. Say I know a certain song by heart, backwards, blindfolded, double on one leg, whatever then boom, my favorite song just got some new life cause now I'll have to learn the hand movements hah.

All about whats popular. Honestly, I don't even know what D-Tech is, and thats probably what a lot of buyers would think also. DDR is whats popular, if Nintendo tries another company, its most likely not going to work, or sell as much as something already going good.

Its like opening up a Mcdonalds and a smaller fast food chain. The smaller one may have better burgers and fries, but with a Mcdonalds there, it will most likely fail because Mcdonalds is what people already know. Just the way it is.

Let me frame it another way, anyone who likes to truly dance will prefer D-Tech. Some of the steps in the game follow the one's in the m/v's.
D-Tech is set up like Pump on the pad, just with no center step, and it's got a sensor array set up like DDR for the hands and you use BOTH playing the game and it works quite well. It's got notable K-Pop like BoA, Duke, Park JiYoon, Se7en, DJ DOC, Space A, Tashannie, Jinusean, etc.

Need good arm control for that. ;)

If this has a mode for involving Wiimote and one that is normal DDR, i'll be all over it.

If it requires Wiimote... no.

Works like a champ - I play DDR Mario Mix on the Wii with Red Octane pads.

But we'll go to like family arcade places, and they'll be like 30-40 year old men there, with their kids, staring at us. Last time we went, the security guard was staring. I haven't played DDR in almost a year now.
