DDR Ultramix is fucking hard

my fat ass needs to get the one for the PS2.

then I can look like a jackass in the comfort of my own home. And plus I can use to on Space Channel 5!

I tried the training mode! It is hard. You need to be some what coordinated. This thing would have be great when I was playing football. I cant wait to go online with it!
Ive never worked up the courage to play DDR, but lots of my friends play it. I suppose its good exercise.
Ya it is. Who cares what people think. Just do it.
Am I the only frightened by the idea of Big Nick playing DDR?

I kid, I kid...
Trust me, I would think it was scary. I can image the neighbors kids watching me. My windows are right next to their basketball hoop. good thing for blinds.

It's excellent exercise! Don't be discouraged. When I started out, I'd be out of breath after one or two light songs. But you get used to it, and it only took me about 6 months to be full on heavy mode. You'll slowly get in shape and see your stamina building. Even when I was moving up to heavy mode, I could only do one heavy song and then the rest standard. Now I can play heavy all day. It just takes time and patience. And it's a lot of fun!

I wouldnt worry about making a fool out of yourself or not. I see those raver kids in the mall playing it with their knees, buttocks, etc. Being all showy.. and if you watch the actual screen, theyre not getting all Perfects..

I'm getting ready to buy it for my apt. I want the Xbox version b/c I want to be different, but I'm a bit torn b/c it seems the PS2's offer more songs. any other feedback about the Xbox version to help my decision?

This game is awesome.... I do the workout mode every other night and burn at least 200+ calories. Good times, and I am getting better, I can do alot of the songs in Standard Mode nowadays.

I have this game also. I need to pick it back up again but have to make some room for the pad. There are downloadable songs. I believe there are two 5 packs the last time I checked for $4.99 each. I never heard of any of the artists. My favorite is "Castles in the Sky" by Ian Van Dahl w/Marsha. If you go online without getting good at it prepared to get waxed in 2 minutes.....unless you want to play another total novice at it like myself....

Note: They had a special about this game on G4TV where this fat girl lost A LOT of weight just playing this game. She lost like the equivalent of another person or something.

You can do vs mode with xbox live.
I want to go online, but I don't want my ass handed to me, so I am still practicing with friends.
With other live games, I have found out my skill level sky rockets once I start playing on live.

I was going to do it once, but the machine was broken. I just never get to arcades anymore. Almost all of the them near me have closed down.

What kind of pad do you have, BigNick? Is it the normal flat one? Does anyone have any experience with the cheap one, is it still a good experience?

There is no fucking way I would do this in public!!!! I'm talking about in my home, where no one can see.

I got the konami one, I guess it is as close to the official one as you can get. It came with the game.
the chance to play big nick at ddr makes me want an xbox more than both the good games for the system ^^
Do you really need a self esteem boost that bad?
Oh man, I'd like a self esteem boost! 1 hr north of me, eh?
lol, it would be a 1hr drive, for a 2 minute competition.

yea, i just got the xbox version a few days ago, and even training is hard. i get tired, but i can play multiple games in a roll without being too tired to play, but im just not coordinated enough to get the footsteps right, even on the easiest modes

I found out, that if you always hop you know to keep a beat, it makes it a lot easier. Try it, just hop in the center as the arrows show up on the screen. Then you get teh rythm that that song is using. Its kinda like how musicians tap their foot while they play, it keeps them in sync.

ok, a good tip is to not center yourself between steps, if you have a down arrow press it and keep the foot on the down until you need it again. dont center, its pointless

DDR is tough at first, but when you get the hang of it it is really fun. I hope you're not using a softpad with the game... those things are horrible always moving around on you. My friend and I built our own hard pad and it's pretty nice.
What kind of pad do you have, BigNick? Is it the normal flat one? Does anyone have any experience with the cheap one, is it still a good experience?
I use two of the flimsy pads and haven't had a problem so far. Don't have too much trouble with them sliding around etc. A friend of a friend mounted the softpad on a square board with carpet sample squares under the arrows (so you can feel where they are without looking) Apparently it turned out pretty sweet. Of course, it would make it harder to store, though!

I just couldn't justify spending the money for a good pad when I had never played DDR before. But, I've heard it's nearly impossible to do songs on the hard difficulty with a soft pad. I'm no where near that level.

My friends and I are addicted to DDR Ultramix right now, it's nearly everyday for hours on end. While this one on Xbox is quite hard, it just takes some practice. No one plays online though.

The game has a very steep learning curve, at least it did for me. I have been playing for 3 years and I still can't clear any of the 10 foot songs yet. The hardest songs I can clear are some of the 9 foot catas.

If you think it's hard now, wait till you get to Standard mode and they start throwing 8th notes into the step patterns. It took me months to get used to them.

It's a very rewarding game though, to finally get a AAA (perfect for every step in the song) after trying the song 20 times (and getting 1 to 3 greats each time  ) provides a great feeling of accomplishment.

I beat three 10 foots and I've been playing for 1-2 years! :D Max 300, Max Unlimited, and Sakura. I bet I could do Bag if I tried it enough. I've never gotten a AAA though... :(

So, BigNick...when do you want to have that competition?

It seems like if you play regularly for a year (no matter what your shape is), you can be playing heavy songs full-on by then, if not before. Clearing 10-foot songs just takes practice, as with all things. I haven't even done that yet  . I'm still perfecting my 9-footers.

You could always use speed mods for Bag, 2X or 3X should make it a lot easier and if you can clear Maxx Unlimited then Bag shouldn't be too difficult if you use speed mods.

Well, I've beaten Bag on 3x, but I don't really count it. So I can do the steps. I just need to get familiar enough with them to read it at 1x.
