DDR Wanna-Be Noob Request

CAGiversary!
Sooo... all this talk and hype around DDR has me interested. I'm a huge game junkie, as you all, but still have not looked into buying into DDR. However, I think I'm ready to try it out.

I've been scanning the forums and can not find anything specific to my needs... so sorry if it is indeed posted somewhere else.... BUT... what do you guys suggest I buy into... both game and pad.

I don't need anything that hardcore... but would like something that at least works well and is worth it.

Thanks!!

I suggest getting DDRMAX, since it's $30. The others are $40, and all the games are of similar quality. I would grab it at BB with a GGC for $25.

until you start playing heavy made a simple inexpensive soft pad will do ya fine. even after that all youd have to do is a few simple modifications for it to be decent.

Get either the Max 2 or Extreme official bundle. Both are $59.99 and include a game and an official dance pad. Max 2 is the better game IMO but the Max 2 bundle is difficult to find. The Extreme bundle is in most stores now.

Ultramix bundle if you have an Xbox

I personally prefer DDRMAX on PS2 over the others, but if you want a quality soft pad the DDRMAX2 or Extreme bundles would be the easy route, since Konami's pads are better than those third-party knockoffs. I like MAX2 over Extreme.

[quote name='Rodimus Donut']I picked up a brand new DDR Extreme for $29.99 at EB just 2 days ago.
I also got an Ignition pad off of eBay for $10. The offical pads move around alot and after awhile you start to loose your place on the pad. The ignition pad is thick, wont move, and you can tell were your feet are on the mat. Here's a link to an ignition pad on eBay.

those pads are decent?

I have been thinking about getting a pad and a game lately.

I'm gonna head out today and see if I can track down a bundle.

On another note, anyone try out one of those 'wireless' pad solutions?

Don't get a wireless pad, because timing is so crucial in DDR games (perfect window is 1/16th of a second) if the wireless signal isn't perfect (from not 100% accurate timing or even if the batteries start to wear down), then it can really affect the gameplay.

Damn! $20 for two ignition pads? That's pretty damned good! I wonder how worthy these things are?

EDIT: Nevermind. Shipping was more than the pads. That kills the deal for me.

I am looking at both of these websites now..The cobalt flux looks like it is really good

I am looking to replace my Mad Catz "beat pad" that I bought for cheap ($24.99) to learn if I liked the game or not. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a pad if I didn't like the game (or if I sucked at it). I am liking it the more I (try) to play it so I might look into getting a high quality one.

If you are even considering getting one of the more expensive metal pads, you gotta go with the Cobalt Flux. It works and looks awesome. Best $300 ever spent.

If you're just starting off, the soft pads that come with the game will work just fine. You can always mod it yourself and it'll be just as good for heavy and so on.

I was looking around on ebay about a year ago for a metal pad. The cheapest were around $140 with shipping. The guy accidently put a BIN price of $40 shipped, instead of $140! So, I've got a metal pad I paid less than $50 for!
