Amazon DOTD for today is Lost Seasons 1-5 on DVD for $72.99 or on Blu-Ray for $108.99. Comes out to around $14.60 per season on DVD and around $21.80 per season on Blu-Ray.

The Season 1 and 2 Blu-Rays should come with a $20 rebate for each season for those who already own the DVD versions, not sure about Season 3 and up.

I don't have a Bluray player ( I may get a PS3 in the next year, idk)

I hve 1-3 on DVD. I'm thinking of selling 1-3 and just buying 1-5...

Or I could wait and buy the Bluray set once it is released next year around this time...

What do ya'll think?

If you buy this set, don't sell your season 1 and two until after you receive the blurays. There is a $20 mail in rebate if you send in the proof of purchase from both the DVD and blurays for each of the first two seasons. That's $40 total in rebates, plus whatever you get for selling the sets. I have no idea what the DVD's go for at resale, but even if you only got $10 for each, plus the $40 in mail in rebates, you're looking at no more than $38 net cost for all five seasons, less than the going price of any one of them on their own.

I'm just hoping that whoever is processing the rebates doesn't get finicky when our receipt says "LOST: The Complete Seasons 1-5" instead of listing the seasons individually.

Would jump on this but considering how good I've heard the Lost team is with their BD sets, I imagine the inevitable complete series double dip is worth waiting for? Thoughts would be appreciated because I know the price is great!

Very tempting.....but I'll hold off.

I'm not going to watch it again anytime soon, so I imagine the full, six season set will have some even better prices (on a per season basis) 5-10 years down the road when I want to revisit it.

I also want to make sure it has a satisfactory ending before picking it up on Blu. Had Seasons 1-3 on DVD, but got rid of them in anticipation of eventually rebuying on Blu if the show wraps up nicely.
Hell yeah. It'll probably be a hatch that lights up.
And if you don't punch in the numbers every 108 minutes, it turns into Pan & Scan. ;)

I was just going to pick up season five when I saw this. For 50 more bucks I got the first four seasons on bluray. What a great deal!

out of curiosity, has there ever been a TV show blu ray set that was worth the wait and is way better than buying the season sets individually? (assuming buying individual seasons is cheaper)...

i can't think of one... aren't tv show sets usually just all of the episodes in some big fancy packaging?... i was incredibly disappointed with the BSG set

This is a fantastic deal, but unfortunately cannot take advantage of it. Saving up for an upcoming trip and other expenses this month are piling up. Never watched this show, but definitely look forward to the complete series bundle when that arrives.

I can't think of any, which is why I made my order for this set this afternoon. Not to mention the $40 I can get back since I own seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, which is way more important to me than the possibility of an extra bonus disc or some unnecessarily crazy packaging in the future.
I love shows with intriguing characters and stories, but LOST seems to be the bunt of a lot of jokes by late show comedians and SNL. The jokes are always along the line of "no one knows what's going on with LOST anymore." As in, the story seems to be convoluted or something.
I never had any trouble understanding anything that was going on in Lost. You just need a memory span. Some things are foreshadowed and not revealed until seasons later, but the continuity is very tight with maybe a small handful of plotlines that are never resolved (probably due to the writer's strike). People are just stupid.

Very true. But even if the complete series pack sucks I assume I'd be able to buy the individual seasons cheaper 5 years down the road when I actually feel like watching it again. As Blu ray prices should further drop to DVD levels by then.

yeah... also they ALWAYS reference what they are going to be going back to in the "Previously on..."

I want to wait for a series set because of the mismatched packaging of the season sets. But I'm afraid they'll just bungle it and end up with a set like Alias or Battlestar Galactica. I'm hoping they'll just put out all the original seasons in the same packaging as the DVD sets (foldout with a really nice slipcover) and put all those in a giant slipcase like that one you could order for the Lord of the Rings extended movies.

There's a disheartening article on Blu-Ray.com though, about how most shows are not even bothering with full sets on Blu (except Battlestar). I fear ABC might just not even bother with a Blu series set.

yea... i didn't hesitate to buy seasons 1-4 on DVD, but i honestly haven't even watched them all, lol... i think i might watch season 5 completely before this last seasons starts though, 'cause i have friends who completely skipped this past season...

noooooooooo... i hope they at least rerelease the previous BSG seasons on blu ray individually... i love that show, but i hate the quality of the packaging they used for the box set... much rather have individual season packaging like they did for season 4.5...

They are starting to release BSG in single sets. Season 1 was announced a while back. Comes out next month I think.

I had to bite although I already own 1-3 on DVD and 4 on blu ray.

I'm going to be doing the Amazon Trade-In program. The prices seem fair except for Season 4 on blu ray. I don't see why the DVD version should have a higher TIV.

After the trade, it costs less than $30 to upgrade (I was getting S5 on blu ray anyways). Even if I never watch the show again, I figure sometime in the future I might just revisit it as Lost is pretty much the only TV show that is and will be unrivaled in my eyes.
Is everyone sure those rebates on S1 and S2 are still valid? Didn't the Blu's come out a while ago?
They're valid until June of 2010.

I pre-ordered this set back in August, so I emailed Amazon to get the difference refunded to my account. They're doing a 38$ refund to my account as I type this. :)

I will jump on this deal if someone with all the seasons can answer this question:

Underneath the slipcovers, do all the seasons have the same case and matching spines? A picture of them lined up would be great, if that's not too much trouble.

Having CAG as your homepage is a bad idea. Everytime I tell myself that I will not spend any more money, that I have spent enough but then I see another amazing deal posted on here that I just cannot pass up.

Yeah, that's the odd thing about CAG. It's a site for people looking to spend less, but I pissed away more money since I discovered it.

Underneath the Slipcovers Seasons 1-4 have the same cases and matching spines. I do not have season 5 so I cannot comment on that one.

Here's a link to a picture:

Technically, Season 1 and 2 use Viva cases (which is what WB, Fox, etc. would use) and Season 3, 4 and 5 use Vortex cases (Blu-ray logo is indented and is the case that Sony, Disney uses for their releases).

Bah!!! That's it no more games no more movies!!!!! I bought it. Mainly becuase of the absolutley horrendous audio and sometimes video of the Comcrap HD broadcast in my area and my girlfriend hasn't seen any of the episodes!!!

Decided to take the plunge, even though I'll probably never get around to watching them (I've seen every episode and am not the type to watch the same thing twice).

Thanks for the picture! Heck, even the Dexter spines don't match up perfect, so I guess it's a minor issue.

I might just go ahead and order. Thanks again.

:applause:

I sure hope Cheapy bought Amazon stock when it was in the 70's, because he's made the site a heck of a lot of money (I've spent so much money there recently I'm half expecting them to send me a Christmas Card LOL).

Not a day goes by where I don't impulse buy something from Amazon. Today was no exception! ;)

thanks, i'd been waiting for a deal like this since i missed the deal from last year. i have season 4 on bluray and i can easily sell or gift the new one.

D'oh. I didn't realize that Lost Seasons 1 & 2 had Blu-Ray upgrade rebates. That would have made this deal a lot more attractive since I own those on DVD.

My son ordered the blu ray set.

He had season 5 ordered already for $38. Returning that one, and flipping 1-4 on ebay or goozex.
Woohoo.

Does anyone have a link to this rebate promotion or instructions on how I can take advantage of this? I remember hearing about it a few months ago, but I don't have any info on it anymore. I obviously bit on this amazing deal yesterday, so I'd love to get some money back for the previous season DVDs I already own.

Thanks!

The rebate forms will come inside of the season 1 and 2 Blu-rays. You'll need copies of your receipt (which you can print from Amazon.com), and proof of purchase tabs from both the DVD and Blu-ray sets. Also, send each request in a separate envelope, since there have been reports of people only getting one rebate when mailing them both together.

thank you!

So there's isn't any rebate for Season 3 like there is for Seasons 1 and 2?

Also, I wonder if the rebate people are going to have a problem with issuing rebates when they see a printed out Amazon receipt for seasons 1-5 on Blu Ray and not something standard like a receipt from Walmart for just Season 1 or 2.

Has anyone purchased Seasons 1-5 sold together on Amazon before (before this deal yesterday occurred or people who chose one day shipping and have it already)? Maybe these Season 1-5 sets of Blu Rays are different because they're all packaged together and they don't include the rebate forms inside 1 and 2? Any chance of that?

Thats awesome - a $20 rebate for each set? So I pay $68.99 for 5 seasons of Lost on bluray and I can sell my first 4 on dvd still :)

Mine just arrived. I'm glad I already had the original Season 3 that came in a cardboard box because it looks kinda weird being the only season without a slip cover.

So did seasons 1 and 2 include a form to receive a rebate if you already own the DVDs?

There's nothing different about this set compared to the single season releases - they're just all shrinkwrapped together. The forms will be there.
