Yep, you will totally get arrested.

But remember - its fraud to send back a different style case to Amazon (or wherever), but it's OK for FV to send you the wrong one

Gotta love the moral police. Im sure some saying it's fraud are happily exploiting loopholes with coupons and deals all the time.

Yeah, you totally know me even though it's the internet you big tough internet guy.

Look, I get why you're upset, but what are you hoping to accomplish by continual complaining about it and slinging personal insults? Is this somehow going to get you the blu-ray book? Is Family video going to send you the right one if you insult enough people and threaten to never go there again enough times? If you don't want the blu-ray then send it the hell back on their dime and please for the love of god stop complaining.

It is considered return fraud, but they probably aren't going to arrest you for it. It just depends if you feel that it is morally right for you since technically they may not sell that copy nearly as quick if you return that, so in a way you are taking some money from them in the form of a quicker sale.
They sold us the WRONG product. It was advertised as a collectible book (or something to that degree). If you bought a car that said it came with Leather seats and they gave you cloth you would find that 100% acceptable? They sold an item that didn't match the description.
It was advertised as being a Limited Edition item. It's limited. Yeah it sucks that you don't get the book version. If you're not happy with a problem just get your money back. You're not forced to keep the movie so there's no reason you should be crying about it. If I bought a car and got a cloth seat, I would just return it and buy it somewhere else.

I would give them a tip since I feel more comfortable not sitting on a dead animal.

That's a good point. Killing an animal to make a car seat is wrong. I'm surprised companies are still allowed to do that.
They hire out so it's all legit.
In that case I don't see a problem with it. They're probably just trying to feed their families.

Just like Family Video employees.
Absolutely.

I'm glad we got this sorted out and proved GizmoGC wrong.

Shrike can go ahead and close this thread now.
Same UPC and same product.

Nothing about swapping it out for the book is morally or illegally wrong. I mean, if FV can do it, everyone else certainly can as well. Same everything as far the stock system is concerned.

Sorry you don't feel the same way, but you are more than welcome to keep the crappy Amray that FV sent you without warning while I'll be enjoying my book version.

You're returning a product you didn't buy for the store to get a free upgrade. It's FVs fault, not another stores. Either return it to FV and pay the difference somewhere else, or suck it up. You even said you feel the non-book version is crappy, so it clearly is not the same product. You paid the lesser price, you got the lesser product. Now you're harming another company in order to suit your own needs, and morally justifying it because someone else did you wrong.

So, if someone steals $20 from me, I'm stealing $20 from you now. It's fair, something bad happened to me and I'm clearly owed something in return now!

Incorrect.

It's the same product. Same price point. Same UPC.

Nothing is wrong about it. The store didn't pay any more - or any less - for the Amray version.

Of course, I laugh when I see everyone exploiting loopholes and coupons at retailers, but this? OMG! THIS IS WRONG!

It's not like returning a broken product for a new one. It's the same thing. That's exactly what FV wants all of you guys to believe (and you ate it all up!).

Your $20 analogy would work if you stole $20 from me and replaced it with another $20. Stealing would be me walking into Target, taking a Blu-ray and returning it to Best Buy. Target out -1.

I'm sure retailers would one the amray version since it takes up less space so they could stock that with more product.

As geo said, it is clearly NOT the same product. If it were the same product then they would sell it just as quick as their copies of the digibook which is almost guaranteed not the case. You can justify it all you want, but it is fraud and just because a company did it to you does not make it right and I would hope that you are smart enough to know this.

TLDR

Limited product is limited and regardless of what happened with FV it does not justify you ripping off another store to suit yourself.

It's the same product. Same SKU and same MSRP. If it was a lesser product, they would be offering it at a lower price.

Example:
To Kill A Mockingbird DIGIBOOK = $26.99
To Kill a Mockingbird AMRAY = $17.49

Both came out the same day...but there is a price different. Why? Different SKU!

AB has chose to use the same UPC and the same MSRP for the Book and Amray version of Battle Royale. Blame then. Retailers are paying the same price.

So if it is the same product, you have no problems keeping the version they sent you, and you wouldn't keep bitching... oh wait.

The normal case I got from FV had a sticker over the UPC, with a different UPC number under it, leading me to think it's really two SKUs...
