I don't know what the actual metrics are, but PC gaming is certainly on the rise again. It often is toward the end of the console lifespan as a PC's power evolves over a period of weeks instead of years like a console. Current games on the PC are starting to look
significantly better and come with many more features than their console counterparts - often at a reduced price. That's tough to ignore.
I only use my PC for surfing the internet including the occasional YouTube video or three. Otherwise it's just a dust collector to me. I like the fact that with a console I don't have to worry about specs and whether or not my console will play that new game I just bought or if I have to pay X amount to upgrade it like you do on PC in order to play some of the prettier games.
As for those 'pretty' games, I don't really care too much about graphics, so long as the game runs right and is fun to play.
Mods, more freebies, and a house that isn't full of boxed clutter are just the icing on the cake. Digital distribution is the future, my friends. Get ready
About the only game I wouldn't mind getting for the PC(though my 2005 or 2006 PC would likely need major upgrading to run it
) is Just Cause 2 and that's only for the multiplayer mod for it. About the only time I keep the 'boxed clutter' is when a console game has next to nil for trade value. Otherwise the games I buy leave my house as quickly as I pick them up and even quicker if they have an insane value someplace.
But digital distribution won't become the norm in this country until everyone is on equal ground for internet speed and reliability and that just isn't going to happen with the price gouging from providers. Not to mention unless the costs to buy the digital copies are nominal at best I'll still prefer a physical copy every time. But there's no way in hell I'd pay $30+ for a game I have ZERO resell rights to. At $5-10 a pop I might consider it, but at $30, HELL NO.
The "physical copies" bit I can understand, I dont by any means agree, but I cant see your point. But the "clogging up my HDD with tons of stuff" shouldnt even be an issue at this point. When even laptops come with 1TB HDDs, storage space is practically infinite. That should be the least of your concerns.
Unless my HDD on my PC fails I have never and will never upgrade from the stock drive that comes with it from the factory. The same thing applies with my game consoles. I don't do a ton of downloading, so a huge HDD is pointless to me.
