Update: Scattered reports of certain sets still at the lower price, so I guess I'll ressurect this for now.
A theory I have, if you scan a product and see it is full price, look at the rest of them and see if any of them have a different UPC code. I notice that some of the sets only have replacement UPC stickers on some of the box sets (ie 5 copies of MacGyver Season 2, but only one with a new stick over the UPC code). Then I checked half.com and it seems macgyver season 2 has 2 different entries, each with its own UPC. This might explain why the deal only works in certain locations.

No luck in Millbury, MA. Didn't scan everything, but tried several and they all scanned at normal price (BoB, Sopranos, Monk, Spongebob)
 
None of my three local Targets had anything. :cry:
I would love a copy of Batman the Animated Series Volume Three. I would be happy to trade some of my penny guides, or something else for a copy (or I would just pay for it plus S&H). PM me.
 
The targets by my house had all the box sets in stock, but everything was full price. :cry: Oh well you can't win them all

I got 12 DVD's and they didn't suspect anything, only when I scanned about 40 DVD's with my buddy did the guy at electronics get suspicious, I can gaurantee it won't be on tomorrow there because he brought the security gaurd back there and everything talking about what sounded like a DIV code (it wasn't UPC because I was wondering what it meant) but the DVD's they looked at weren't the $5.99 so I don't know but I'll definiately check and clear them out tomorrow if it still works since I'll have more money.

BTW, this was in Peru IL and I'm confident NOBODY here knows about this because the shelves were basically full.

I scanned almost everything else on the list and they all came up full price. I also tried two other Targets, and they had nothing on sale. Still VERY happy with what I was able to get! :)
 
Well I went back to the Lawrence store today and most everything was normal price on the list, except Buffy Season 1 which I picked up, looks like its pretty much over. So after people talk about their hauls or lack of hauls from today, I am going to change deal status to dead.
 
Out of curiosity I stopped by one Target location today (Blaine, MN Highway 65 and 109th) and I overheard an employee mentioning to another that "all the messed up DVD boxsets are at least coming up correctly now." :cry:

Therefore... looks like its dead here in MN. Unless someone can prove me otherwise (which I'd love to see actually).

Are you sure this is dead? I know a lot of stores have fixed the prices but I'm not sure all of them have. As of yesterday, there were still a lot of LHOTP sets at my store, and other sets were discounted too (but everything was out of stock).
 
I'm not entirely sure this is dead. People were reporting on dvdtalk.com that they were still finding some sets (Moonlighting, Miami Vice, Macgyver, Magnum P.I., etc.) for the deal price. Also, I found Mary Poppins at $5.99 in Stillwater, MN yesterday and they actually had the Jaws 30th Anniversary Edition tagged on the shelf for $5.99 as a Price Cut from $16.99. I wouldn't put this baby to rest just yet, although I'm sure it's just a matter of time at this point.

By the way, for those interested in the Twin Cities, I checked out...

Knollwood, Minnetonka (Hwy 101), Minnetonka (Ridgedale), Bloomington, Edina, Forest Lake, Lino Lakes, North St. Paul (McKnight), Vadnais Heights, Apple Valley, Minneapolis (Quarry/ New Brighton) and Eagan with no luck.

Stillwater had Mary Poppins only (Jaws was sold out), and had success at St. Louis Park (Hwy 100) and Burnsville.

Others have reported no luck in Eden Prairie, Shakopee, Chaska, Chanhassen, Downtown Minneapolis. Midway (St. Paul).

Hope this helps someone.
 
Went to my local Target this morning and ALL of the dvds that were on the list were either sold out or pulled from the shelves. Shame, not even one dvd set was there for me to scan to see if it was still going on.

I would call this deal dead in a few hours seeing that whatever stores that still have this goof in their system most likely will be "updated" tonight to their regular prices.

Great job to those who got in on it and didn't grab 15 copies of "MacGuyver Season 2" to hawk off on eBay. Wish I could of gotten in on it myself but aw well... guess it wasn't mean to be for me. :(

I'm in KC Metro- Thanks guardian_owl for saving me any more gas on useless trips to Olathe, So. Olathe, Overland Pk., Ward Pkwy, etc.; did you have any luck in Mission? I picked up a couple there earlier this week like MONK S3, 3RD ROCK, LAGUNA BEACH, & NEWLYWEDS. Ironically, in the Original Post that seemed to die, Post #1 lifted that receipt from Belton-[from the DVD-TALK site]; Well, I drove 20 miles to that store this afternoon and found SPONGEBOB S1, JAWS 30TH, BLUES CLUES BOX SET, DORA BOX SET. Also found HEFFALUMP, POCAHONTAS & MARY POPPINS ringing up at 5.99 too (but maybe they were supposed to-- they all had shelf prices of 5.99...) ALSO, PRINCESS DIARIES 2 was 5.99 (full screen only; wide-screen scanned at $20)- Found mostly empty shelves there and many others mentioned scanned full price like Friends, SaTC, Gilmore, One Tree Hill, Looney Tunes, etc. Had NO trouble checking out whatsoever.
 
I was trying to get MacGyver seasons 1 and 2 but with no luck. But at one Target I did go to they actually had stuff marked as 5.99 got Loony Toons season 1 and 2, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer for 5.99. Saw some other stuff but wasn't really interested. MacGyver was still marked full price. The Strange thing though is the 3 titles I got didn't scan up as 5.99 the cashier had to call Electronics to confirm and then override. Funny thing is they didn't even confirm which titles I had gotten.
 
i popped into target today to look at minifridges for college and decided to check out the dvds while i was there...this is the target in valley stream, ny, and when i went last week they had everything in stock but nothing rang up. Today they had limited selection of those tv box sets and i was wondering where they all dissapeared to. I start looking and i see a fewboxsets like buffy seasons 1 and 7, l word, gilmore girls anda few others labeled, with the yellow price tags "5.99"...im going nuts, and i go to scan those as well as the oc and other things normally priced and they all scanned up at normal. I called a guy over and asked him what the deal was and he was shocked to see those were the prices, then asked a few ppl and since i only had the 2 buffys in my hand they said i can get those for that price but wouldnt let me take the other stuff (which i didnt want just so cheap i mean how could i not), i settled, didnt want to start a big deal and just took those 2 seasons for 5.99 without risking it. I plan on going back with my receipt and the printed ones online and getting more, but they threw out those price listings
