Ripped from Ben's Bargains:

Cheap ass link

AOL has been bleeding customers lately. Their new incentive is a free $100 Amazon Gift Certificate with trial signup. The GC is e-mailed within 24 hours, and you can cancel (1-888-265-8008) within the 50 day AOL trial period to avoid any charges.

They are of course going to argue with you and give you a multitude of reasons to stay with AOL. Just tell them you wanted your free Amazon GC and stick to your guns.
You could tell them you sold your soul to the devil, so now you work for AOL and don't feel you should have to pay for its services.

But I think evil Lucifer wouldn't want anything to do with that company. Thier maddness is of a different strain that his.

I've been going over to Fatwallet to check their forum on this topic, and it is funny how crazy everyone is over there over this AOL thing. Some people signed up like 40 or 50 times for this deal, and I think it's because of people like that, that this deal may not go through. I'm holding onto hope though. Anyway, here is the link to fatwallet if anyone wants a good laugh:

Yeah that is pretty funny. I love all the talk of lawsuits about how AOL is taking advantage of us.

Where does this sense of entitlement come from anyway?

Damn greedy people, I'll just keep waiting for my sole meager $100 gift certificate.
Sigh, I hope Amazon sells bread cause I need a loaf to feed my family...

make sure that if you didn't install the AOL client software that you check the webmail every day. They only have a 3 day retention on email online without having the client software download it to the local computer... would hate someone to lose their gift certificate when it arrives :)

Yet another reason why AOL sucks. (Like we needed more...)

They better give us the GC. $100 barely pays for the pain on installation. It even added a toolbar to IE.

Chtuzpah!!!

YAH!!! I just got my $100 gift code. Thanks AOL. I just have to send in my letter asking to cancel my account. HEHE. This is a christmas life saver !!!

I applied it into my amazon account, it is sitting there. Also just cancelled aol, lady was politely asking questions but I just emphasized my desire to cancel.

how did you go about trying it? Under your account (on amazon) theres:
# View gift certificate balance
# Apply a gift certificate to your account

i also signed up for the amazon.com credit card and received a $30 credit. The $100 credit worked for me

I bought

GTA San Andreas
Resident Evil 4
Lord of the Rings Triliogy

= $62 after both coupons.

Its been a nice day today

I tried it on both of those, and tried just adding it to my cart, I get this

" Important Message
There's something wrong with the gift certificate claim code you entered. Please check for transposed digits, omitted digits, and similar errors."

After i put my items in my cart i went to Check Out and incerted the coupon code in the coupon code box on the bottom right side of the screen.

xzafixz - i just used "Apply a gift certificate to your account" and copied and pasted it right from the email exactly into an amazon account i've had for years - sorry I dont think theres more i can offer...

From searching other forums it looks like certain variations of the gift card will not work, such as ones starting with TY that are 16 digits, which is exactly what mine was.

Got Mine.....I just tried to use it though, and I got a message that the gift certificate service is temporarily unavailable and to try again later. They are probably being bombarded by fatwallet members right about now. I guess I'll try again later......

When you guys got to your final checkout screen, does it show a -$100 for the gift card above your total?

I keep trying to checkout and and it keeps giving my final total as $110.00 and then when I try to re-apply my GC code I get this message:

This gift certificate has already been applied to your account. If you wish to use this balance towards your purchase, please leave this field blank. If you wish to apply another gift certificate to your account, please enter the new claim code number below.

Do you guys just think it is screwy right now with everyone trying to order, or am I doing something wrong?

So what is everyone buying who got in on this deal?

Also, if you canceled with AOL yet, what did you tell them when you canceled?

Whoo hoo...success!

My order finally went through!

I picked up:

Star Wars DVD Trilogy - Widescreen $41.99
Hardcover copy of Angels and Demons by Dan Brown $13.99
A Dora the Explorer - Learn through Music player for my daughter $29.99
Dora the Explorer - Music Festival Adventure disc for LTM player $9.99
Blues Clues - disc for LTM player $9.99

Final shipped price after discount: $10.03......Thank you AOL!

Sadly, no games for me, but my daughter's 3rd birthday is in two weeks and it was a perfect deal to pick up a few things for her.....outside of the trilogy and book of course :D

Congrats to those who got in on this deal and thanks to mcwilliams132 for the original post!

I noticed from reading some of the forum posts at fatwallet, that some people were sent a 16-digit ($100 ones are 14-digits) $25 toys only gift card. I haven't checked back yet to see how AOL is handling this, but if you go back to the previous page of this thread, where I give a link to the fatwallet forum, you may find your answer there. Good Luck!

thanks maccabee, I called AOL and they said they are looking into it, and they have recieved many calls about this, and to call back in 3 days if I have not got a new code in my AOL email.

Looks like you may end up lucking out. From what I've read over there, the people who got the 16 digit codes are now getting their 14 digit ones and being allowed to use the $100 and $25 GC for their troubles! Keep your eye on your AOL e-mail.....

Just want to say even through it is dead it is not worth it.

The trouble AOL will give you will make you want to kill those assholes. Grrr......

AOL is notoriously hard to cancel, but probably worth it for $100.

Just make sure they actually cancel you and you don't have AOL fees on your CC after you supposedly drop them.

Its a 50 day free trial, hopefully you dont forget you had AOL by the time it could bill you.
and damn, $125 free? lucky lucky.

I used my paypal debit card for billing, which has like a $3.00 balance, so I'm not too worried about the billing part. From what I have read on the other forums, they haven't been giving people too hard a time about cancelling. I didn't download the software, and I figure I'll keep the account for the full 50 days to use the webmail address to sign up for other offers without worrying about my regular e-mail being hit with spam. Seems like a win-win to me, but I guess only time will tell.

By the way, my order shipped already...damn Amazon is fast! Thanks again to the OP......

I love amazon now, Im buying so much stuff....the good thing too is I can use the free Saver shipping, and the items show up in 1 -2 days since I live EXTREMELY close to where they ship the stuff, so I basically get free overnight shipping on anything from amazon.....forever.

Congrats to those that got it in.

Just remember to cancel before trial offer ends. I had to cancel my AOL a few years ago, of course I got a call center in India, and I literally had to jump through hoops to cancel my account.
