Has anyone else run into the problem I had with redeeming the promo code. My code always says its invalid, and ea wont give me a new one since its a promo. Anyone else have this issue? or just me and my bad luck lol.
Free game? Way to devalue your IPs, EA.
lol, that was the first reply on the thread on NeoGAF. It took until post #129 for it to get posted here.

I must confess though, it was the first thing that jumped into my head when I first saw this thread.

Edit: It was post #129 until a bunch of posts got deleted.

This might be kind of a DUH thing, but be sure you are adding the BASIC editions of these games to your cart and not the repackaged editions with DLC add-ons and what not.

I've been receiving all sorts of junk emails from EA all the time but no free game email from Origin. WTH!

So I go to my Origin program (to make sure e-mails are turned on) and open it up. It's telling me I need to update so I press update. It downloads the update and then doesn't do anything else. It's like it downloads the update and just stops the application :lol:. Next time I launch it it says you need to update and downloads the update again and does the same thing.

Nice EA
Here's a little horror story for you. On Origin, the promo bar didn't show up for me, apparently you have to "pay" using a credit card and not PayPal so I accidentally bought Dragon Age Origins. Long story short, I'm supposedly being issued a refund but Dragon Age Origins is still in my list of games.

Makes me wonder if it will disappear or if I should get another copy as I already own BFBC2 and that I don't want Spore at all.
That's odd. Worked out fine for me (the option to pay went away after I entered the promo code, just had to enter my address still.) My problem was trying it on Origin's site rather than reading the instructions and seeing it had to be done in the desktop client.
Free game? Way to devalue your IPs, EA.
Spare me.

* Spore - Released September 7, 2008.

* Dragon Age: Origins - Released November 3, 2009.

* Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - Released March 2, 2010.

So we have three games which are 2-4 years old and people are so filled with EA hatred that they can't even come up with a plausible whine like, "These are all old games that I have! Cheap bastards! How about free Mass Effect 3?", but are choosing to bitch about devalued IP?!? Did it occur to you haters that by giving away old catalog titles, it may spur sales for other games in the franchises? People may buy DA DLC, more than recouping the "loss" of giving away a copy. Please Google about the economics of razor blades and handles and clue up, mmmkay?

If Steam was handing out free copies of Half-Life 2 or Portal, absolutely NO ONE would be complaining about devaluing IP or old games. No. One. It'd be unanimous "STEAM IS THE BESTEST EVAR!!!"

Haters are gonna hate and hating makes people stupid. If you don't want free stuff, then why are you here? Did you think you typed www.ElitistEAHatingGamersNoSteamNoSale.com?

It's tongue and cheek. The head of EA origin had an interview where he said they would not be doing deep discounts like steam on their games. Then they went ahead and gave them out for free.

Calm down, it was just a joke. It was in reference to a recent artical where the head of EA's Origin division criticized Steam for deep discounts during their sales. The guy said that such discounts devalued IPs.

No. Jokes are funny. This sounded like the same tired EA hate that's already popped up in this thread from people bashing Origin and claiming anyone who'd install it would take breakfast from Hitler. While I'm aware that irony and sarcasm are hard to get across in print (without a winkie), I've been at CAG long enough to see the legions of "No Steam! No sale! What's the DRM? Origin sucks! Steam rules!" people that it was a safe assumption that this was more of the same. You shouldn't have to have knowledge of Reddit chatter and what Peter Moore said to IGN (which I had read) to get the "joke."

I use origin and hitler makes a mean omelette ;)

Nothing for me yet, and I checked spam and even logged in to make sure that g-mail is what I used to make the account. :(
We have Dragon's Age on PS3, but I would not mind having the PC version at all.

Well this sucks, I didn't get one and I've been an Origin member since it started and I own a good number of games for it.

Thanks, EA. You jerks!

I didn't have it checked to send me promo stuff, that's probably why I didn't get it. I just unchecked it, but probably too late now. :(

Yeah I just looked at my account and I had it unchecked also, so I got punished for not liking EA's spam in my inbox. YAY!

I've been on EA account for years now (since BFBC2 release), but I just used the Origin client today to dl a game...are my chances slim on getting an email for a free game?

Hello pot meet Mr. Kettle.

I've watched your posts and you do a fair bit of hating on Steam yourself so yeah, haters gonna hate indeed.

EA opened themselves up for that sort of criticism by making sweeping sensationalistic statement about deep discounts devaluing IP.

I am sorry that cricitism again EA is making you butthurt and not supporting your rabid anti-Steam agenda but people have a right to express themselves, make opinions and jokes.

Lastly, I will say that I firmly believe that if EA has their way and becomes the dominant player in PC digital distribution I think it will hurt PC gaming as a whole and give an overly large, unscrupulous and greedy coorpation who was rated the worst company more power than they already have.

It's one thing to have Valve who makes very few games run a digital distribution site, it's quite another to have EA who are the Borg of PC gaming and put out a very large chunk of all PC games have a digital distribution site. They get 100% of the profit with no overhead and no middleman costs and are NOT passing it on to the consumer.

Their games are as expensive as ever and with 'collector's editions' that contain digital only content and more DLC than ever and they get all of the money for it 100% with Origin. A portion isn't going to Valve, or Amazon, or Gamestop or retail stores, nor to people driving trucks or running warehouses or printing boxes or discs. 100% to EA.

As far as I am concerned anyone who thinks given the opportunity to do so EA wouldn't intentionally drive all competitors into the ground until it had a monopoly is naeve.

/soapbox

I got the email (thanks for telling me to check my spam folder, fellow CAGs) but the promo code is coming up as invalid.

Keep it classy, EA.

Edit: The code was invalid on the website, but it worked in the client. I'm clearly spoiled by Steam, where a storefront is a storefront is a storefront.

Contacted EA Live Support. They indicated that the codes were given out completely at random. They also stated that they couldn't (likely meant wouldn't) do anything about those members who did not receive a code.

No code for me. I changed my email preference, but it's probably too late, if it even would have made a difference. Ho hum.

Were you using it on their site or in the desktop client? Can't be on their site (was doing it for me too); has to be in the actual Origin client itself.

I never bought anything from there before, but get e-mails all the time from EA, so that's probably why I got the code. Only games I had on there were Dragon Age 1, 2, and Mass Effect 2, and I bought those off of Amazon.

Haha, totally in my spam folder. Anyways, the only one I didn't have was Spore, so... eh. wtf.

I'm sure this is EA's way of getting me comfortable with actually buying something from their store rather than just inputting codes from boxed copies of games, amazon-bought copies, and steam codes (the ones that work).

I changed my e-mail preferences a few weeks ago. I don't think I'll be getting one of these, but I enabled it just in case.

Their site said I needed to validate my email. Been about 24 hours since I clicked the link for them to send the email. Yeah EA!

Even if you got it, it'd probably not have a link to verify...mine didn't. I had customer support verify my address for me, but didnt matter anyway as they still never sent me a code.

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up, mine also went to Gmail Spam folder.

I have been really jonesing for a Dragon Age replay after selling my PS3 copy after playing through it the first time on release.
I got one and never bought a thing from origin... Now what to get
The single player of Bad Company 2 is very enjoyable, however it biggest strength was its online, which has died down alot since Battlefield 3 came out, you will still be able to find games, it is just 'last weeks news' so to speak.

Dragon Age: Origins is a great RPG which feels very Game of Thrones style story meeting gameplay elements from Knights of the Old Republic from Bioware. This is the title I would suggest the more.

Spore was not my thing and bored me to tears.

My thoughts exactly. Good luck with that one EA!
