Update:
The sale appears to be over. It's now early morning on the 15th and the graphic about the sale has been removed from minecraft.net.

Notch is getting married tomorrow, and to celebrate he's having a Buy 1 Get 1 sale. If you buy Minecraft this weekend you will get a bonus gift code to give/trade/sell. Expires "August 14th Sweden time (CEST) when the transaction is processed." (their words)

The game is still in beta. It costs $21.95 right now and will go up in price when released later this year.

If you bought the Humble Indie Bundle #3 or know someone who did and isn't using their Minecraft code, remember that you can try the full game out during this sale to see if you're interested in buying it.

WARNING
The people at Mojang have stated that minecraft.net is the only authorized place to buy the game. If you see the game for sale elsewhere for cheap the codes were likely purchased with stolen credit cards or paypal accounts. Accounts made premium with codes bought from these sources are at risk for being deactivated. It has happened to other people.
Is the deal still up?
The expiration time they gave isn't very clear, but I would assume it's good before midnight tomorrow at midnight CEST. That's about 20 hours from now. They said weekend and the image is still up, so it seems likely. I wish I could say for sure.

How's mulitplayer for Minecraft? Is it better to join on a existing server or create a temporary home server if one's planning to play with a friend? Basically is it worth the $22 ($11 for each)?

Look into finding a cool server with some good mods and an active community. Last I played, the server I played on had an RPG-style mod that allowed for skill leveling, a cities mod that allowed for city trading and inter-city wars, and a currency system that allowed for us to sell crappy blocks for obsidian, diamond, gold, etc. Server backups were also regularly made so griefing could easily be resolved if it ever happened.

This is the type of game where you need a lot of dedicated people who want to make something out of it. It is more like a tool to create a world, so if you are expecting to find a game, you'll be disappointed. Tried it out, and not for me.

Where is the gift code for the extra copy sent? I haven't received an email and I couldn't find anything under my Profile settings. Did the deal expire?

That may be because the game is still in beta? Doesn't the full release promise an adventure mode?

Can anybody tell me if you end up with two codes when you buy the game? Or does it automatically activate one of the codes on your account and then give you an extra gift code?

I'm still not sure if i wanna pull the trigger on this. I got an opportunity to play the game thanks to the free promo for those who bought the humble bundle. While I did have some fun with it, I got the feeling that it would get old really fast. This talk of an adventure mode to come sounds promising, but who knows if, or how it will pan out.

Ideally, what I'd like to do is get a code, but not activate it until I know how the final product turns out. That way I could just flip the code if it turns out that the final product is disappointing. I know that I could just buy a code from somebody here who has an extra, but I'd never be 100% sure that I have a legit code until I go to activate it. If I wait 6 months to activate it, it might be too late to do anything about it if I got scammed. So I'd rather buy it myself and sell the extra code.

EDIT: Never mind. I got the info elsewhere. Turns out it automatically activates one of the copies of the game on your account and then give you an extra gift code. You have no option to get two codes.

Should specifically say "can not buy a gift code and get another copy" somewhere cuz I bought it for my son and daughter to get an account for each but I dont use my cc on any of their accounts ever because they are young so I bought a gift code and definitely did not recieve a second one.

On the website "buy a gift code" spot it shows the sale so figured no big deal.

After looking into it for an hour turns out on the creators personal website is the only place it says buying a gift code does not qualify for the deal.

How do I contact minecraft support? They dont even have a real support page. WTF kind of company is this?

Yes they do: http://www.minecraft.net/support/
This page can be found on the bottom right of the Minecraft website.

Also, as far as I know, Minecraft is mainly worked on by a single guy (Notch), with a few helpers, so you can't expect the same level of support that you would get with a multimillion dollar/hundreds of employees company. Even though they are small though, I am sure you will still get the help you need.

One thing I noticed right away about Minecraft is that it has been extensively modded, and players have come up with a pretty significant amount of content to extend the longevity of the game. Mods that add dungeons, creatures, npcs / villages, weather / seasons, pets, recipes, materials, mechanics, biome types, ui improvements, etc. are readily available (at http://www.minecraftforum.net). That was a big factor in my decision to get the game, since I was in the same situation as you - seeing the limited nature of the base game's content for non-builders.

PC Gamer has a list of their top 20 Minecraft mods (part 1 and part 2), and even Yogscast has come up with a compilation pack for new players to get started easily.
